Diabetes is a pervasive metabolic disorder that notably impacts various body systems, including oral health. One of the critical manifestations of diabetes in oral health is its exacerbating effect on periodontal diseases. Recent advancements in the prevention, screening, and treatment of periodontal diseases have become increasingly significant due to the bidirectional link between periodontal health and diabetes management. This review explores contemporary strategies and technological innovations in the comprehensive management of periodontal diseases among diabetic patients. It highlights the integration of digital dentistry tools such as artificial intelligence (AI) and teledentistry in enhancing diagnostic precision and treatment outcomes. Preventive measures, including new pharmacological formulations and lifestyle interventions tailored for diabetic individuals, are discussed. Additionally, the review underscores the importance of routine screening protocols that incorporate glycemic control status to refine treatment plans for periodontal therapies. Furthermore, advancements in regenerative therapies, including the application of growth factors and stem cell therapy, are examined for their potential to restore periodontal tissue integrity, offering promising directions for future research and clinical practice. Aim: The current study was conducted to assess the effects of various surface treatments on the implant surface., Materials and Methods: A total of 45 dental implants measuring 16 mm in length and 5 mm in diameter were used, along with the appropriate abutments. Depending on the surface treatment used, the samples were randomly split into three groups, with 15 implants in each group: Group 1: Control, Group 2: UV light-treated, Group 3: Sandblasted and acid-etched (SLA)-treated. After surface treatment, a scanning electron microscope (SEM) was used to assess the test samples' surface properties. All sample images were captured using a 3000× magnification. After all three groups' surfaces were treated, the surface roughness was measured using a digital optical profilometer with a stylus speed of 0.5 mm/s that was connected to computer software., Results: The maximum surface roughness was found in the group treated with SLA (0.714 ± 0.12), followed by the group treated with UV light (0.692 ± 0.09) and the control group (0.516 ± 0.12). Aim: The aim of the current research was to evaluate the antimicrobial effectiveness of chitosan-based tetracycline gel on periodontal pathogenic microorganisms., Materials and Methods: Preparation of chitosan-based tetracycline gel of 0.7% and 1% was done. In addition, 0.2 g of chitosan, 1% citric acid, and then 0.35 g of tetracycline in that order was added. Furthermore, 0.5 g of the tetracycline, which had been subjected to crushing and then stirring in a glass beaker to obtain a homogeneous gel was subjected to insertion into the syringe sterile. Such material prepared at the instance will attempt to investigate the sensitivity of bacteria in Surabaya to preserve the steadiness of the material. Evaluation of antimicrobial outcomes of chitosan-based tetracycline gel was performed against Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis ., Results: The highest region of inhibition was noted at 28.26 ± 1.08 mm, 23.98 ± 2.02 mm against A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis at 1% chitosan-based tetracycline gel, in pursuit by the 0.7% chitosan-based tetracycline gel at 15.12 ± 0.16 mm and 14.48 ± 1.22 mm region of inhibition, followed by a control group that exhibited 4.16 ± 1.29 mm and 4.82 ± 1.20 mm regions of inhibition against either of the pathogens., Conclusion: To conclude, the chitosan-based tetracycline gel is efficient in restraining the growth of A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis bacteria. Aim: The aim of this research was to identify the antimicrobial effectiveness of three different mouthwashes on periodontal pathogenic microorganisms., Materials and Methods: 2 periodontal disease-causing microorganisms, i.e., Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans , and Porphyromonas gingivalis , were chosen for this investigation. Prior to commencing this research, a variety of branded and commercially obtainable mouthwashes were procured. Three oral rinses, namely HiOra, Hexidine, and Amflor, were chosen for the current research. The subculture of A. actinomycetemcomitans as well as P. gingivalis was performed by subjecting them to incubation for 48 to 72 hours at 35-37°C. The disk diffusion method was employed to evaluate the antibacterial efficiency of the extract in opposition to the pathogens tested. The zone of inhibition was calculated in millimeters. The mean value of every sample was documented., Results: Hexidine oral rinse in pursuit by Amflor as well as HiOra oral rinse exhibited the highest zone of inhibition in opposition to A . Aim: The aim of the current research was to evaluate the effectiveness of three desensitizing agents on the occlusion of dentinal tubules., Materials and Methods: Eighty human maxillary and mandibular permanent premolar teeth that were subjected to extraction in the course of orthodontic treatment were utilized in this study. The teeth were subjected to sectioning by employing a double-sided diamond disk. A block was procured from every even cervical dentinal surface with dimensions of 4 mm × 4 mm × 3 mm (L × B × H) by sectioning the tooth transversely. Further, 35% phosphoric acid was utilized for 30 s to cause dentinal etching, thereby exposing the dentinal tubules. The blocks of dentin were assigned at random to one of the following four groups ( n = 20): group I: control, group II: bioactive glass containing desensitizing agent, group III: 1% nano-hydroxyapatite containing desensitizing agent, group IV: tri-calcium phosphate-containing desensitizing agent. The exterior of the specimens was scanned and evaluated using a scanning electron microscope., Results: 1% nano-hydroxyapatite-containing desensitizing agent (2.04 ± 0.08) exhibited higher mean dentinal tubular blockage, followed by the bioactive class-containing desensitizing substance (2.26 ± 0.19), tri-calcium phosphate desensitizing agent (2.84 ± 0.10), and the control group (4.18 ± 0.12) in that order. Amid the experimental groups employing the various desensitizing substances, there were significant differences statistically with P < 0.001., Conclusion: The current research concluded that each of the three desensitizing agents was efficient in dentinal tubular occlusion regardless of their different chemical constitution. Aim: The aim of the current study was to assess the clinical success of immediate loading implant in the esthetic zone., Materials and Methods: 20 patients with 20 teeth to get replaced were selected for the study. All patients underwent a pre-surgical preparation followed by draping. Following stringent asepsis, necessary precaution was taken to not to injure the socket wall while removal of tooth. After removal, socket was thoroughly cleaned and curetted with saline and betadine. Using physiodispenser and drills, socket was properly prepared for implant insertion taking care of irrigation with saline to avoid heating of socket while drilling. Implants were then placed with initial stability with hand motion followed by complete insertion with hand ratchet. Black silk sutures were used to close the socket. Patients underwent the first control one week after surgery. They were recalled at the 1 st , 3 rd and 6 th months to evaluate the following parameters to assess the success of immediate implant placement: mobility, soft tissue conditions (gingival index and probing pocket depth (PPD)), and a graded scale ranging from "very satisfied" to "very unsatisfied" were employed to subjectively evaluate patient contentedness., Results: During the 1 st and 3 rd months, 100% mobility was absent. But on the 6 th month, the implant of 3 patients (15%) was mobile. The maximum gingival index score was noted in the 1 st month (1.02 ± 0.01) and reduced more in the 3 rd month (0.74 ± 0.08). The probing depth was more in the 1 st month (3.88 ± 0.10) and it was reduced in the 3 rd month (3.02 ± 0.12). Significant difference was not found between different times of intervals. 14 patients were very satisfied, 5 patients were fairly satisfied, and 1 was fairly unsatisfied., Conclusion: The current study concluded that immediate implant placement in the esthetic zone has a better success rate with good patient acceptance., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2022 Journal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences.)

Background: The present study was conducted to assess level of cytokine and herpesvirus in peri-implantitis and healthy patients., Methodology: Fifty patients with healthy dental implant (Group I) and dental implant with peri-implantitis (Group II) were enrolled. The level of interleukin (IL)-1 β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, MCP-1 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and herpesvirus was estimated., Results: The mean IL-1 β level was 1.54 in Group I and 5.12 in Group II, IL-2 was 0.05 in Group I and 0.02 in Group II, IL-4 was 0.018 in Group I and 0.0021 in Group II, IL-6 was 0.83 in Group I and 0.92 in Group II, MCP-1 was 64.5 in Group I and 23.1 in Group II, and TNF-alpha was 1.54 in Group I and 1.05 in Group II. There was a significant higher level of TNF-alpha in virus + patients ( P < 0.05)., Conclusion: The cytokine level was increased in patients with peri-implantitis as compared to patients with healthy dental implants. Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate whether the surface geometry or topography of implant abutments affects the retentive strength of prosthesis cemented with zinc phosphate on standard machined, sandblasted, and grooved implant abutments and to compare the results between them., Materials and Methods: Fifteen similarly shaped implant abutments (MDcpk61; MIS Implant Technologies Ltd.,) (height 6.0 mm and 6-degree taper) were divided into three groups ( n = 05): Group I - standard machined abutments without grooves, Group II - sandblasted abutments (same as Group I but sandblasted with 50 μ aluminum oxide), and Group III - abutment with prefabricated circumferential grooves. Further in these groups of 15 abutments, 5 abutments each are to be taken to check the retentive force of zinc phosphate cement. Fifteen identical cast copings was prepared to fit all 15 abutments. The castings will be cemented to each group of abutments with an above-mentioned luting agent. After thermal cycling and storage for 6 days in a water bath, a retention test is to be done with a tensile testing machine (Instron) (5 mm/min) and retentive forces will be recorded. Data will be subjected to one-way ANOVA test and Student's t -test., Results: For zinc phosphate cement, F = 30.53 (>3.59 for P = 0.05) shows a statistically significant difference between all the three groups., Conclusion: Circumferential grooves on implant abutments give better retention when compared with standard machined (plain) and sandblasted abutments despite marked difference., Clinical Significance: Retention of restoration depends on the surface of the abutment as well as the luting agents used. Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess the implant stability in immediate implant placement using different bone grafting materials., Materials and Methods: Twelve patients (5 males, 7 females, range of 40-58 years) were included in the study. All patients were divided into two groups based on the graft material used. For Group 1, Xenograft bone grafting material was used, and for Group 2, Freeze-dried bone allograft was used. The patients were suggested to rinse with 0.2% chlorhexidine mouth wash for 1 min. Periotome was used for atraumatic tooth extraction, and necessary care was taken to avoid fracture of socket wall. The implant was placed with respective bone grafting materials. An Orthopantomogram (OPG) radiograph is taken at the day of the operation to serve as baseline data for the marginal bone level. Clinical and radiological parameters were evaluated at baseline, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months to assess the mean marginal bone level changes. Periotest was used for the measurement of implant stability., Results: The mean marginal bone level in Group 1 at baseline (13.58 ± 1.09), 3 months (12.64 ± 0.88), 6 months (12.02 ± 1.42), and 12 months (11.20 ± 1.26), respectively. In Group 2, the marginal bone level was at baseline (14.22 ± 0.26), 3 months (13.52 ± 1.28), 6 months (13.10 ± 0.32), and 12 months (12.12 ± 1.26), respectively. There was a statistically significant difference found in both the groups. Moreover, there was no statistically significant differences found between the groups at all the duration on intergroup comparison of the mean marginal bone level. The mean difference of implant stability in Group 1 the implant stability was 188.6 ± 22.5 and in Group 2 was 191.5 ± 18.2, and there was no statistically significant difference found between the groups., Conclusion: Both bone grafting materials used in the study showed improvement in implant stability and marginal bone levels after immediate placement of implant., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2021 Journal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences.)

Aim: The aim of the study was to develop a model that represents a basal implant with stress distribution in the cortical bone on application of loads emulating masticatory forces., Materials and Methods: In this study, the stress distribution in the bone and the implant is evaluated by applying various loads that emulate the masticatory forces. The geometric models of cortical bone representing the premolar area and a basal implant model of the following specifications, longitudinal oval threaded pin (1.95 mm × 2.1/2.3 mm ø), height of the implant head (7.2 mm), and width of the implant head (3.5 mm) (BOI BS, IDHEDENTAL), were generated with Ansys software, and both the implant model and the bone model are superimposed to mimic the bone implant system as a unit., Results: Overall comparison of stress distribution on both implant shaft and implant neck showed that maximum stresses are located at implant neck irrespective of forces applied and minimum stresses are located at implant shaft. On overall comparison of stresses seen within the bone and the implant, it was observed that the maximum stresses were seen in the implant neck followed by the implant shaft followed by the bone interface., Conclusion: The present study concluded that the stress transmission is greatest during application of oblique load (70 N) followed by horizontal load (10 N) and the least by vertical load (35 N)., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest., (Copyright: © 2021 Journal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences.)

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Curcuma longa L. extract (CLE) on periodontal pathogens., Materials and Methods: Sixty patients were divided into three groups: Group I ( n = 20) patients treated with scaling and root planning (SRP) only, Group II ( n = 20) patients treated with SRP followed by subgingival irrigation with 1% CLE solution, and Group III ( n = 20) patients treated with SRP followed by subgingival irrigation with 0.2% chlorhexidine (CHX) solution. The clinical parameters (plaque index [PI], gingival index [GI] scores, probing pocket depths) were recorded at baseline, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks. The antimicrobial efficacy of 1% CLE and 0.2% CHX solutions against Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia , and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans were evaluated by disk diffusion method., Results: There was no significant difference in the mean values of zone of inhibition exhibited by both CLE and CHX solutions. All the groups showed significant improvement in the clinical parameters when compared to baseline values. The improvement in the PI and GI scores in the CLE group was lesser than that in CHX group by the end of the study period., Conclusion: CLE possess antimicrobial efficacy against the common periodontopathic bacteria. However, further large-scale studies evaluating the substantivity of C. longa are required to support its beneficial use in the treatment of periodontal diseases., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest.
