Abstract: Four novel gallium and indium borates, [M(en)2][B5O8(OH)2]·H2O (M=Ga (1), In (2); en=ethylenediamine), [In(dap)2][B5O8(OH)2]·H2O (3, dap=1,2-diaminopropane), [In(dien)][B5O8(OH)2] (4, dien=diethylenetriamine), have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR spectra, elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analyses. Compounds 1, 2 and 3 are isostructural and consist of one-dimensional (1-D) chains built up from [B5O8(OH)2]3− clusters and Ga-/In-complex linkers. The structure of compound 4 features a 1-D chain containing 8-member rings built by [B5O8(OH)2]3− clusters and {In2O4} dimeric cluster linkers which have never observed in the structural chemistry of borates to date. The H-bonding interactions between adjacent chains lead to 3-D supramolecular network structure. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Two di-cadmium-substituted vanadoarsenates, [Cd(enMe)3]2{α-[(enMe)2Cd2As8V12O40(0.5H2O)]}·5.5H2O (1, enMe=1,2-diaminopropane) and [Cd(enMe)2]2{β-[(enMe)2Cd2As8V12O40(0.5H2O)]} (2), were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, TGA, UV–Vis, XRD, magnetic measurements and single crystal structural analyses. Crystal data for 1: monoclinic, P2(1)/c, a=15.040(9)Å, b=20.288(12)Å, c=27.873(17)Å, β=98.046(8)°, V=8421.3(19)Å3, Z=4; for 2: monoclinic, P2(1)/n, a=12.753(3)Å, b=19.334(5)Å, c=14.310(3)Å, β=99.984(3)°, V=3475.1(14)Å3, Z=2. X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that compounds 1 and 2 exhibit isolated and one-dimensional inorganic–organic hybrid structures, respectively. The former is the first di-cadmium-substituted vanadoarsenate derived from α-{As8V14O42} shell, while the latter is another kind of di-cadmium-substituted vanadoarsenate derived from β-{As8V14O42} shell. Variable temperature susceptibility measurements demonstrate the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions between VIV cations in 1 and 2. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Combination of in-situ generated monocopperII-substituted Keggin polyoxoanions with copperII–organoamine complexes under hydrothermal conditions results in seven inorganic–organic composite polyoxotungstates [Cu(en)2(H2O)]2{[Cu(en)2][α-PCuW11O39Cl]}·3H2O (1), {[Cu(en)2(H2O)][Cu(en)2]2[α-PCuW11O39Cl]}·6H2O (2), {[Cu(en)2(H2O)]2[Cu(en)2][α-XCuW11O39]}·5H2O (3/4, X=SiIV/GeIV), {[Cu(deta)(H2O)2]2[Cu(deta)(H2O)][α-XCuW11O39]}·5H2O (5/6, X=GeIV/SiIV) and [Cu(dap)2]2{[Cu(dap)2]2[Cu(dap)2][α-PCuW11O39]2} (7) (en=ethylenediamine, dap=1,2-diaminopropane and deta=diethylenetriamine). 1 is an isolated structure whereas 2 is a 1-D chain structure, but both contain [α-PCuW11O39Cl]6− polyoxoanions. 3–6 contain the 1-D linear chains made up of [α-XCuW11O39]6− polyoxoanions in the pattern of –A–A–A– (A=[α-XCuW11O39]6−), while 7 demonstrates the first 1-D zigzag chain constructed from [α-PCuW11O39]2 10− polyoxoanions via [Cu(en)2]2+ bridges in the pattern of –A–B–A–B– (A=[α-PCuW11O39]2 10−, B=[Cu(en)2]2+). The successful syntheses of 1–7 can provide some experimental evidences that di-/tri-/hexa-vacant polyoxoanions can be transformed into mono-vacant Keggin polyoxoanions under hydrothermal conditions. Abstract: Hydrothermal reactions of VOSO4·3H2O, CdAc2·2H2O, NiCl2·6H2O, H3PO4, and H2O yield the first example of trimetallic phosphate materials, [Ni(H2O)4]Cd(VO)(PO4)2 1. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction shows that its structure consists of Cd/V/O binary metal oxide lamellas decorated by PO4 tetrahedra, which are further pillared by NiO2(H2O)4 octahedra to generate a neutral 3-D framework containing two intercrossing 8-MR channels where the coordinated water molecules protrude into. Abstract: A new hydrated borate compound, [NH3CH2CHCH3NH3]][B8O11(OH)4]·H2O 1, has been synthesized in the presence of 1,2-diaminopropane acting as a structure-directing agent under mild conditions. Its structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction and further characterized FTIR, elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21 /c (No. 14), a=10.0787(7)Å, b=8.8482(6)Å, c=19.3097(4)Å, β=91.352(6)°, V=1721.53(2)Å3, and Z=4. The structure consists of infinite open-branched borate chains constructed from [B3O6(OH)] units, onto which the [B5O7(OH)3] groups are grafted. It represents the first example of one-dimensional borate templated by an organic amine. The adjacent borate chains are further linked together by extensive hydrogen bonds to form a 3D supramolecular network. The diprotonated organic amines and guest water molecules are filled in the free space of the hydrogen-bonded network and interact with the inorganic framework by extensive hydrogen bonds. Abstract: Three novel hetero-polyoxovanadates, [Cd(2,2′-bpy)3]{[Cd(dien)]As8V14O42(H2O)} (1, 2,2′-bpy=2,2′-bipyridine, and dien=diethylenetriamine), [Zn(2,2′-bpy)2]2[As8V14O42(H2O)]·H2O (2) and [Ni(en)2]3[As8V14O42(HPO3)]·4H2O (3, en=ethlenediamine), were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data: 1 monoclinic, P2(1)/n, , , , , Z=4. 2, orthorhombic, P2(1)2(1)2(1), , , , . 3, triclinic, , , , , , , , . Compounds 1–3 are all made of the {As8V14O42} shells linked by corresponding transition metal complexes into extended structures. Compound 1 and 2 present 1-D wave-like and tubular structures, respectively, while compound 3 exhibits a novel 2-D structure containing interwinding puckery layers.
