A potassium 4-(ethoxycarbonyl)phenyldithiocarbamate, (4-etphdtc), and 6-ethoxybenzothiazol)-dithiocarbamate, (6-etbedtc), ligands have been isolated and four metal dithiocarbamate complexes of the type [M(4-etphdtc)2] and [M(6-etbedtc)2] (M = Zn, Cd;) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR,1H and13C{1H}-NMR, HRMS, UV–vis). Thermogravimetric studies of all four complexes were performed and the final product of the thermal decomposition was metal sulfides. The theoretical study with density functional theory (DFT) has been utilized to optimize the structures of the complexes for HOMO–LUMO energy calculation. Non-bonding orbitals (NBO) analysis was performed to determine the numerous hyper-conjugative interactions responsible for the stability of the compound. In addition, Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) analysis was conducted to identify the compounds' electron-rich, electron-poor, reactive sites, and bonding characteristics. The Electron Localization Function (ELF), and AIM Charges are also calculated. In vitro cytotoxicity, the complexes were examined against cervical cancer cells (HeLa) to assess their reactivity. Molecular docking studies were conducted to confirm the biological activity by simulating the binding orientation and affinity of the ligands and their complexes against VEGFR-2 kinase, The investigated ligands interact with the binding site as; hydrophilic (Lys868, Glu885, His1026, Cys1045, and Asp1046) and hydrophobic (Val889 and Leu889) for 4-etphdtc; hydrophilic (Lys868, Glu885, Cys1045, and Asp1046) and hydrophobic (Val889, Leu889, Leu1035, and Phe1047) for 6-etphdtc. Three novel organotellurium (IV) derivatives of diphenyldithiocarbamate, C4H8Te[(CS2) N(C6H5)2]2(1), (C2H5)2Te[(CS2) N(C6H5)2]2(2), and C4H7(CH3)Te[(CS2) N(C6H5)2]2(3) have been synthesized by the reaction of sodium salt of diphenyl dithiocarbamate with C4H8TeI2, (C2H5)2TeI2, and C4H7(CH3)TeI2 respectively. The synthesized compounds 1–3 were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, and 13C{1H} NMR spectroscopic studies. The antimicrobial efficacy of compounds 1–3 was examined against selected bacterial and fungal strains using broth microdilution and disc diffusion methods. Penicillin and amphotericin B were used as a positive control for bacterial and fungal strains respectively. The highest activity against bacterial strains was shown by compound 3 while against the fungal strain compound 1 showed the highest activity with a MIC value of 6.25 µg/ml. Four organoruthenium(II) arene dithiocarbamate complexes: RuCl(piperidine dithiocarbamate)(p-cymene), C1; RuCl(1-phenylpiperazine dithiocarbamate)(p-cymene), C2, RuCl(ethylphenyl dithiocarbamate)(p-cymene), C3; RuCl(4-benzylpiperidine dithiocarbamate)(p-cymene), C4 were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR and mass spectroscopic techniques. Spectroscopic data indicate that the complexes are four coordinate tetrahedral geometry consisting of one dithiocarbamato anion, p-cymene and a chlorido ligand around the ruthenium(II) ion. The dithiocarbamato anions coordinate the ruthenium(II) ions isobidentately. The cytotoxic effects of the compounds were assessed against human cervical cancer (HeLa) and human lung fibroblast (MRC5-SV2) cell lines using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)−2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Only two compounds, C1 and C3 showed potent cytotoxicity after 48 h treatment. C1 was the most potent, with IC50 values of 6.7 ± 2.3 µM and 8.1 ± 0.8 µM against the HeLa and MRC5-SV2 cells, respectively, while C3 had IC50 values of 11.5 ± 3.1 µM and 10.3 ± 1.3 µM, respectively. Remarkably, compared to cisplatin (used as the reference anticancer drug), C1 was twice more potent against HeLa cells and more than five times more potent against MRC5-SV2 cells, while C3 was nearly equipotent with cisplatin against HeLa cells but five times more potent against MRC5-SV2 cells. A series of new nickel(II) dithiocarbamate complexes of general formula [M L2], (where L = benzyl(4-fluorobenzyl)carbamodithioate (L1), benzyl(4-cyanobenzyl)carbamodithioate (L2), ethyl(4-methylbenzyl)carbamodithioate (L3), (4-methoxybenzyl) (naphthalen-1-ylmethyl)carbamodithioate (L4) and ethyl(4-methoxybenzyl)carbamodithioate (L5)) have been synthesized, and characterized via elemental analysis, FT-IR, electronic spectra, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Mass spectrometry and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The continuous variation method (Job's method) was used to determine the stoichiometry of the complexes. TGA was used to analyze the thermal decomposition behavior of metal complexes in nitrogen atmosphere. As a result of the thermal decomposition process, all of the complexes produced NiS as the final product. X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies confirm the formation of NiS nanomaterial. Crystalline size of NiS was obtained between 19.97 to 21.35 nm range by applying the Scherrer equation using XRD. Solid-state electrical conductivities reveal that all the complexes behave as a semiconductor at room temperature. All the synthesized dithiocarbamate ligands and complexes were screened against five human bacterial pathogens (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Aeromonas hydrophila, and Shigella boydii) by disc diffusion method. Homoleptic pyridyl-3(N) functionalized dithiocarbamate complexes namely, [Zn(L1)2]21 (L1 = (C5H4NCH2)2NCS2) and [Cd(L2)2] ∞2 (L2 = CH3C6H4CH2NCS2CH2C4H3O) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and different spectroscopic techniques. Single crystal structural studies reveal that compound 1 is binuclear while, 2 is polymeric structure. The presence of weak interactions between complexes and solvent molecules in the lattice results in one-dimensional and three-dimensional supramolecular structures of 1 and 2 respectively. In the case of complex 2, a rare and significant S···Cl chalcogen bonding interaction was found, which involve the solvent molecule in chain motifs. Complex 2 is a unique example of homoleptic metal dithiocarbamate complexes exhibiting such types of interactions. Complexes showed emission in the solid state. Tin sulfide (SnS) nanoparticles were prepared from tin(II) dithiocarbamate single source precursors. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the SnS nanoparticles confirmed orthorhombic herzenbergite phase of tin sulfide. High-resolution transmission electron microscope images show spherically shaped tin sulfide with particles size in the range 1.0–2.8 nm. The bandgap energy obtained from Tauc plots is in the range 2.95–3.32 eV. The as-prepared SnS nanoparticles were used as nano photocatalysts for the degradation of brilliant green (BG), crystal violet (CV), methylene blue (MB) and methyl red (MR) under visible light irradiation. The degradation efficiency of BG by the SnS nanoparticles after 180 min irradiation are 76%, 81% and 70% by SnS-1, SnS-2 and SnS-3. Degradation efficiency of 66%, 90% and 75% were obtained for SnS-1, SnS-2 and SnS-3, respectively, against CV dye. While the efficiency of 79%, 97% and 93% were obtained for SnS-1, SnS-2 and SnS-3, respectively, against MB dye. The results showed that the as-prepared SnS nanoparticles are efficient photocatalyst for the degradation of BG, CV, MB and MR dyes. Bis(thiomorpholinyldithicarbamate)Cu(II) complex was prepared and characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The molecular structure revealed a mononuclear copper(II) ion bonded to two thiomorpholinyl dithiocarbamate anion to form a distorted square planar geometry. The compound was thermolyzed at 130°C to prepare CuS nanoparticle confirmed as pure hexagonal covellite crystalline phase by powder X-ray diffraction (pXRD). HRTEM image showed CuS nanoparticle with particle sizes in the range 23.3–48.8 nm. The lattice fringes confirm polycrystalline nanoparticles with an interplanar distance of 0.24 nm that corresponds with the lattice plane (101) of hexagonal CuS. SAED patterns confirmed the crystallinity by showing two separate diffraction rings ascribed to (101) and (102) lattice planes of hexagonal CuS phase. An efficient one-pot four-component condensation of naphthols with formaldehyde, carbon disulfide and secondary amines in water is described for the synthesis of 1-(dithiocarbamatomethyl)-2-naphthols and 2-(dithiocarbamatomethyl)-1-naphthols. By using naphthalene-2,3-diol in this protocol, the corresponding bis(dithiocarbamates) were obtained in high yields via a one-pot pseudo seven-component reaction. The reaction is characterized by a wide substrate scope, high efficiency, green solvent, catalyst-free conditions and straightforward isolation protocol. Pb(II) complexes of N-ethyl-N-phenyl dithiocarbamate [Pb(EtPhdtc)2] and N-benzylmethyl dithiocarbamate [Pb(BzyMedtc)2] were synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The molecular structures of compounds reveal a distorted tetrahedral geometry around the Pb(II) ions. [Pb(EtPhdtc)2] crystalized as a dimeric structure with Pb ... Pb and Pb ... S interactions while [Pb(BzyMedtc)2] crystallized as monomeric complex with weak C–H interactions. Thermogravimetric analysis of the Pb(II) complexes shows they decomposed to give lead sulphide (PbS). The complexes were thermolysed in oleic acid (OA) at 120°C, 160°C and 200°C to study the influence of temperature on OA capped PbS nanoparticles. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns confirms that the as-prepared PbS are cubic rock salt crystalline phase of PbS. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) micrographs crystallite average size of 2.64 nm for particles prepared at 120°C, 4.12 nm for particles prepared at 160°C, and 1.93 nm for particles prepared at 200°C from [Pb(EtPhdtc)2]. The average crystallite sizes of PbS nanoparticles obtained from [Pb(BzyMedtc)2] are 6.61 nm at 120°C, 13.88 nm at 160°C, and 10.82 nm at 200°C. Cadmium(II) morpholine dithiocarbamate complex [Cd(morphdtc)2] was synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The molecular structure of the complex showed Cd(II) ion in a distorted 4 + 2 octahedral geometry, in which the two morpholine dithiocarbamates act as bidentate chelating and the central Cd ion bond the sulfur atoms of adjacent morpholine acting as bridging ligands to form centrosymmetric five coordinate dimeric molecules. The Cd(II) complex was thermolysed at 180°C to prepare CdS nanoparticles using three different capping agents. The pXRD patterns revealed a mixture of hexagonal and cubic crystalline phases of CdS nanocrystals. TEM images revealed semi-spherical and spherical nanoparticles, with the size range of 4.50–5.70 nm for OLM-CdS, 3.33–5.96 nm for HDA-CdS, and 3.00–5.83 nm for ODA-CdS. The particle size distribution of the CdS nanocrystallite is within the range 1.06 nm (SD ± 0.73) for OLM-CdS, 0.68 nm, (SD ±0.73) for HDA-CdS and 1.18 nm, (SD ± 0.60) for ODA-CdS. The lattice fringes showed that the particles are almost in the same environment with the interplanar of 0.32 nm for OLM-CdS, 0.34 nm for HDA-CdS, and 0.32 nm ODA-CdS. Tris(N-phenyldithiocarbamato) ruthenium(III) complexes, [Ru(L1)3] (1); tris(N-(4-methylphenyl)dithiocarbamato)) ruthenium(III), [Ru(L2)3] (2); and tris(N-(4-methoxyphenyl)dithiocarbamato)) ruthenium(III), [Ru(L3)3] (3) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, FTIR, UV–VIS and NMR spectroscopy. TGA analyses show major degradation of all complexes in the range 120–350°C, leading to the formation of residual weight corresponding to ruthenium (III) sulfides. The1H-NMR spectra of the ligands and complexes are in agreement with the proposed structures. FTIR studies confirmed that the ligands coordinate the Ru3+ion in a bidentate chelating mode. The complexes were thermolysed at 180°C to prepare hexadecylamine-capped Ru2S3nanoparticles. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the formation of hexagonal-phase Ru2S3nanoparticles with average crystallite sizes ranging from 8.3 to 9.5 nm. In this work, the synthesis and characterization of ZnS nanoparticles prepared via two approaches, involving the thermal decomposition of the precursor complex in a furnace (pyrolysis) and by solvothermal process in the presence of hexadecylamine (HDA-ZnS), are reported. The precursor complex, Zinc (II) bis (N,N-diallyl dithiocarbamate), was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and single-crystal X-ray techniques. The spectroscopic analyses of the complex indicated a symmetrical bidentate coordination of the dithio ligand through the S-atoms. The single-crystal X-ray structure revealed a distorted square pyramidal coordinate geometry with S atoms around the Zn ion. The optical properties and the morphology of the as-prepared nanoparticles were studied by UV-Vis and photoluminescense spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. HDA-ZnS are spherical and monodispersed with an average size of 4.5 nm, as estimated from the optical absorption spectrum and the TEM image. The ZnS nanoparticles obtained via pyrolysis in a furnace yielded the hexagonal wurtzite phase, whereas the HDA-ZnS nanoparticles showed a mixture of wurtzite and cubic phase with the cubic phase being dominant. Copper(II), cobalt(II) and nickel(II) bis(N-methyl-N-phenyl dithiocarbamate) complexes having the general formula [M{S2CN(MePh)}2] (where M = Cu, Co and Ni) have been prepared and characterized by spectral and thermal analysis. The IR spectra suggest that coordination of dithiocarbamate (DTC) occurred through the two sulfur atoms in a symmetrical bidentate fashion. The electronic spectra, conductance measurement and magnetic moment analysis support the proposed geometry for the electronically dilute complexes. The results of the thermal analysis showed that after dehydration, a one-step decomposition pattern leading to the formation of respective metal sulfide as the end-product occurred. Platinum dithiocarbamate (DTC) complex has been synthesized from the ligand diallyl DTC, and its structure was established from elemental analysis, IR, NMR, and single-crystal X-ray analyses to be Pt[S2CN(C3H5)2]2. The thermal properties were studied using a simultaneous thermal analyzer, and showed two main steps of decomposition. The structural geometry analysis was determined using X-ray diffraction and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. The single-crystal X-ray analysis showed that the complex has a square planar geometry. The diallyl groups of the DTC ligands are not symmetrical making the complex non-centrosymmetric, and the complexes are stacked with intermolecular ring–ring interactions. Dithiocarbamate complexes of Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) were synthesize and characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, UV–Vis, FTIR,1H- and13C-NMR spectroscopy. The complexes were thermolyzed at 180°C to prepare HDA-capped ZnS, CdS and HgS nanoparticles. The optical properties of the nanoparticles showed absorptions that are blue shifted with respect to the bulk and narrow emissions. The ZnS nanoparticles are in the cubic phase with average crystallite sizes of 3–5 nm. Mono- and dinuclear complexes of the type M(cys), M(PTD)2 and M2(PTD)4, where M=Pd (II) or Pt(II), cys=(SCH 2CH (NH 2)COOH)2 and PTD=pyrrolidine thiocarbanoyl disulfide, have been prepared through oxidative addition reaction. They are characterized by microanalyses of metal content, molar conductance, magnetic measurements, infrared and UV-visible spectral studies. The experimental infrared data are supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations using the B3LYP level of theory and LANL2DZ basis set.
