It has been possible to show the formation of a new class of complexes indicating a wide range of structures with eta2-type and eta3-type coordination of the alpa,beta-unsaturated compounds, beginning from palladium(O) complex and Lewis acids.

The synthesis, structure, and reactivity of Nu3-1-hydroxyallyl complexes of palladium and platinum and also the isomerization path from Nu3-a-hydroxyallyl to beta-ketoalkyl via tautomerization in a Nu(Super 1)-allyl coordination mode are presented. The potential of Nu3-hydroxyallyl complexes for organic synthesis appears very high, because an appropriate transformation of Nu3-hydroxyallyl complex would allow to introduce a C3 unit bearing oxygen into organic products.

A study is conducted to demonstrate that the Palladium/Me(sub2) SiOTf- catalyst system is very efficient for the addition of disilanes to enones and enals including aryl aldehydes via the h3-siloxyallylpalladium intermediate, which allows to employ methyl vinyl ketone and acrolein as a substrate and unreactive disilanes as a silylation reagent.

The direct addition of a proton to a carbonyl oxygen in an eta2-enone complex of palladium and platinum led to the quantitative formation of eta3-1-hydroxyallyl complexes of palladium and platinum, of which X-ray diffraction analysis showed typical eta3-allyl structure.

In the presence of a catalytic amount of Me(3)SiOTf and palladium(0), the addition of disilane to alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds proceeds under very mild conditions via eta(3)-siloxyallylpalladium generated by the reaction of enone, enal, or aromatic aldehyde with palladium and Me(3)SiOTf.
