Nickel/diamine catalyst has accomplished asymmetric Hiyama reactions of [alpha]-bromo esters with aryl silanes in order to provide [alpha]-aryl esters in good enantiomeric excess (ee). The catalytic asymmetric cross-couplings of [alpha]-halo carbonyl compound with aryl metal reagents can be applied to enantioselective alkenylation reactions.

A report that cyclopropane formation from allylic ether, Cp2Zr(H)Cl, and a Lewis acid occurs with inversion of configuration at the zirconium-carbon bond consistent with a W-shaped transition structure is presented. Cyclopropanol formation from an ester, a Grignard reagent, and Ti(O-iPr)4 is demonstrated to proceed with retention of configuration at the titanium-carbon bond.

The article offers information about catalytic asymmetric hiyama cross-couplings of racemic α-Bromo Esters. Enantioenriched α-aryl carboxylic acids are significant type of target molecules because of their role in bioactivity. These α-aryl carboxylic acids can be used in enantioselective alkenylation reactions. However, it is suggested that further studies are necessary.
