Abstract

Hydrogen production from water electrolysis in neutral-pH electrolytes can not only avoid the corrosion and safety issues and expand the catalyst option but also potentially integrate with artificial photosynthesis and bioelectrocatalysis. However, heterogeneous catalysts that can efficiently negotiate the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in neutral solutions are considerably lacking. Herein, we report a template-assisted strategy for the synthesis of 13 kinds of tube-like nanostructured perovskite oxides (TNPOs) with markedly high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface areas. By systematic examination of these TNPOs, we found that the OER activity of TNPOs in neutral solution exhibits a volcano shape as a function of the covalency of transition metal-oxygen bonds. Abstract

The design of highly efficient non-noble-metal electrocatalysts for large-scale hydrogen production remains an ongoing challenge. We report here a Ni2P nanoarray catalyst grown on a commercial Ni foam substrate, which demonstrates an outstanding electrocatalytic activity and stability in basic electrolyte. The high catalytic activity can be attributed to the favorable electron transfer, superior intrinsic activity, and the intimate connection between the nanoarrays and their substrate. Moreover, the unique "superaerophobic" surface feature of the Ni2P nanoarrays enables a remarkable capability to withstand internal and external forces and release the in situ generated H2 bubbles in a timely manner at large current densities (such as >1000 mA cm-2) where the hydrogen evolution becomes vigorous. Our results highlight that an aerophobic structure is essential to catalyze gas evolution for large-scale practical applications.

20. Two-Dimensional Layered Perovskite Ferroelectric with Giant Piezoelectric Voltage Coefficient

Abstract

Piezoelectric sensors that can work under various conditions with superior performance are highly desirable with the arrival of the Internet of Things. For practical applications, a large piezoelectric voltage coefficient gand a high Curie temperature Tcare critical to the performance of piezoelectric sensors. Here, we report a two-dimensional perovskite ferroelectric (4-aminotetrahydropyran)2PbBr4[(ATHP)2PbBr4] with a saturated polarization of 5.6 μC cm–2, high Tcof 503 K [above that of BaTiO3(BTO, 393 K)], and extremely large g33of 660.3 × 10–3V m N–1[much beyond that of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3(PZT) ceramics (20 to 40 × 10–3V m N–1), more than 2 times higher than that of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF, about 286.7 × 10–3V m N–1)]. Combined with the advantages of molecular ferroelectrics, such as light weight, easy and environmentally friendly processing, and mechanical flexibility, (ATHP)2PbBr4would be a competitive candidate for next-generation smart piezoelectric sensors in flexible devices, soft robotics, and biomedical devices.

Abstract

A simple hydrothermal method is designed for the systematic synthesis of lanthanide orthophosphate crystals with different crystalline phase and morphologies. Observation revealed that lanthanide phosphates LnPO4 crystallize with hexagonal or tetragonal structure depending on the ionic radius of the lanthanide ions.
