Automatic person following method by independently tracking left and right feet parts is newly proposed. This method is applicable for small intelligent robot in near future, such as an automatic shopping cart. The proposed method consists of three parts. That is “Detecting and feature-learning of tracked person” part, “Searching lowest position of both feet” part, and “Robot control” part. The Condensation algorithm is utilized to robustly track both feet parts in conplex environment. Hypothesis (particles) are independently prepared for both left and right feet. Experimental results in indoor environment have shown the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The creation of advanced dexterous mechanical manipulators and actuators is increasingly important for development of intelligent robots, which are capable of performing any human arm task. This paper deals with a spherical ultrasonic motor which is an application of an ultrasonic motor to such a dexterous actuator which has multi-degree of freedom. As a prototypal spherical ultrasonic motor, we have developed successfully two kinds of spherical motor with two-degree of freedom which has a spherical body driven by two pairs of ultrasonic actuator. The spherical ultrasonic motors show good controlability and high accurate positioning.

An autonomous and decentralized robot system, ACTRESS, is being developed as an intelligent robot system, which performs complex tasks individually or cooperatively. In this paper, the concept of ACTRESS is introduced. ACTRESS is consist of various kinds of robotic agents, for example, robots, equipments, and computers. Then, communication framework, between them is proposed. In ACTRESS, communication is indispensable function, therefore communication framework is one of the most important topics in ACTRESS. This communication framework is designed for both achieving reliable communication and exchanging diverse information. In order to analyze and evaluate implementation of communication framework, a communication simulator has been developed, which simulates parallel behavior of robotic agents and communication between them. This simulator is useful for designing and developing the system, especially its communication function. Finally, by using this simulator, the optimal distribution of function is evaluated. Functional distribution is one of the main characteristics of ACTRESS, therefore the configuration of functional distribution among robotic agents should be designed carefully. The simulator is also useful for evaluating optimality of functional distribution from the viewpoint of communication.

ロボットや障害物の形状が複雑なとぎでも高速に機能する移動ロボットの障害物回避動作生成アルゴリズムを提案する. このアルゴリズムは, まず作業空間の障害物の配置をグローバルに考慮して移動ロボットが通過すべき中間目標点の列を選択する. つぎに, ロボットと障害物の近接2点を利用してそれらの中間目標点を結ぶ障害物回避動作の列を組織的に生成する.このアルゴリズムは作業空間を表現するクワッドツリー上で機能する. すべての障害物を含む作業空間を上から撮影した実画像から高速に生球されるクワッドツリーは, 作業空間のすべての領域を位置に関して階層的に管理している. この階層構造を利用すると, 移動ロボットが通過すべき中間目標点やロボットと障害物の近接2点がロボットや障害物の形状の複雑さに依存せず高速に獲得できる. したがって, このアルゴリズムはロボットや障害物の形状が複雑なときでも高速に機能する.最後に, 従来の障害物回避動作生成アルゴリズムとの比較実験でこのアルゴリズムの高速性を確認する.

知能ロボットのための視覚研究において, 二次元画像から物体の表面法線や距離などの三次元情報を抽出することは興味深い課題であり, 多くの手法が提案されてきた.筆者らも以前に円錐光束を利用した手法を提案した.それは二つの光源を用いて撮影した二枚の画像を総合的に処理をすることによって, 物体表面上の点における面素の法線ベクトル及び三次元座標を同時に推定する方法である.しかし, 解の一意性, 計測誤差, 分解能などの点で問題が残っていた.本論文では, これらの問題点を解決するために, 固定した一つの光源からの投影像とカメラの前進移動を利用した新しい手法を提案する.本手法では, まず, 移動するカメラで撮った前後二枚の画像におけるパターンの中心位置の変化を利用して, 着目している点の奥行きを測定する.次に, 奥行きと投影パターンのみかけのひずみから面素の法線を計算する.最後に, 物体の大域的情報及び画像の中心部でのパターンのサイズ情報を利用して解を修正する.いくつかの計算機シミュレーション及び実画像処理の結果も報告する.一意性, 計測精度及び分解能のいずれの面においても本手法は以前の手法より良い結果を与えることがわかった.

知能ロポットの移動機能部分用としての試作4足歩行ロボットについて述べる。脚として3自由度を有する水平多関節型のマニプレータを正方形枠の各頂点に配置した重力方向分離駆動構造とし, 軽量化のために全機構は炭素繊維強化プラスチック (CFRP) で製作した.制御系としてはマイクロプロセッサを用いた階層制御方式とし, ソフトウェアはC言語を使用した.テーブルメモリとして蓄えられた歩行シーケンス“クロール歩容”を用いて前進および後退の静的安定歩行を実現した.8cm/sの歩行速度が実現可能であった.
