Abstract

The article shows the development of Helcococcus (H) ovis, a microorganism that has caused pulmonary and respiratory diseases on sheep and goats. The study was done on a H. ovis extracted from a female Verata goat that was euthanized due to pulmonary issues. Results of the study showed that H. ovis caused bronchopneumonia with scattered pulmonary abscesses and fibrous pleural adhesions.

Abstract

The current study describes the recovery of Helcococcus ovisfrom an adult female Verata breed goat that was euthanized because of respiratory problems and emaciation. At necropsy, the affected animal showed a purulent bronchopneumonia with scattered pulmonary abscesses and fibrous pleural adhesions. A Gram-positive, catalase-negative, coccus-shaped bacterium was isolated from the lung tissue and confirmed as H. ovisby 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing.
