Nationalist historiography has ben the dominant historical perspective since the emergence of modern Korean historiography at the end of the 19th century. Nationalism has been very influential, but there has also been continuous criticism of the nationalist historical perspective from academics both inside and outside Korea. Postmodern historiography is beginning to become established among Korean historians, as reflected in the growth of microlevel research into the life history of the people.

The article discusses various reports published within the issue, including one by Prof. Shin Byung Ju on the history of uigwe or royal protocols that was produced during the Joseon dynasty in Korea, and another by Dr. Kim Ji-young on the changes to the banchado, an illustration of royal processions recorded in the uigwe, and the uigwe that dealt with the king's trips by Prof. Kim Moonsik.
