Abstract

The article discusses the Coretta Scott King (CSK) Book Award, created in 1969 by the American Library Association (ALA). The award's focus on African American authors and illustrators of children's books is discussed. The article also serves as an introduction to a series of reviews of children's books that have received the CSK award in years prior to 2014.
