Authors, law journal staff members, and courts can create permanent citations to online resources with Perma.cc, a free library-sponsored service. This article explores expanding the use of Perma.cc to capture material otherwise inaccessible behind “paywalls” and to material the Bluebook requires authors to cite in print. These expansions would be simple to implement and would enhance the utility of legal citations. The author suggests three areas in which Perma.cc might expand: using Perma.cc to capture images of print-only materials, using Perma.cc as a legal blog repository, and expanding Perma.cc beyond legal citations. A small number of appellate courts require neutral citation, a legal citation format that frees citation to judicial decisions from adherence to particular formats or vendors. As law libraries increasingly rid their print collections of case law reporters, a gap appears in public access to the law, as many courts still require citation to print-based formats from particular commercial publishers. With widespread availability of case law in electronic formats through commercial databases and government Web sites, law librarians must continue to urge courts to consider adopting neutral citation principles to ensure greater accessibility to court opinions. This article retraces the history and quirks of neutral citation and aims to ground the arguments for more widespread adoption of neutral citation in the increasing concern over public access to the law. The Treaty of Fort Laramie with Sioux, etc., 1851 was an important transaction between a number of American Indian tribes and the federal government. However, because of administrative mishandling by the latter, there has been sustained but unwarranted confusion over whether the treaty was a valid one. Uncertainty led to the use of a brief note in the Statutes at Large, at 11 Stat. 749, instead of the treaty's full text as the law of the land. The Statutes cue, however, has been misused frequently in the opinions of various jurisdictions, even to the point of deploying it to reference specific quotations from the full document—that is, to material certainly taken from an alternative source. This bibliography provides annotations to English-language law journal articles published between 1995 and 2008 that focus on the impact of globalization on legal education in the United States. Business associations are a complex substantive topic that can be included in an advanced legal research course that teaches students sophisticated research, writing, and citation skills. This article presents the basic substantive law regarding business associations necessary to deliver instruction about advanced legal research, writing, and citation. This article also offers a model syllabus with suggested sources and assignments for students. These research assignments require students to perform tasks such as citing primary and secondary sources, learning advanced research skills using loose-leaf materials, assimilating information from multiple sources into cogent narratives, locating information using various electronic resources, digests, and other secondary sources, and locating and using forms pertinent to business association agreements. This article also provides an instructor with twenty-five suggested sources to use in assigning materials to students. These sources consist of both print and electronic versions. They additionally consist of treatises, monographs, guides, model statutory materials, electronic databases, Web sites, form guides, casebooks, a digest, and a citation manual. This article is an excursion into some arcane realms of the JLR and ALLUS databases on Westlaw and Lexis and their use for extracting statistical information about legal periodicals and articles. Aside from various issues such as citation decay, footnote density, and prolix authors, this article delves into the prestige of legal periodicals which are reflected by (and encouraged by) ranking studies, and in particular the Washington and Lee citation count study which is based on citations froth the JLR and ALLCASES databases.
