Objective: To assess the profile of metabolic syndrome (MS) in a hypertensive population in Mali. Patients and methods: Prospective study from June 1, 2022 to June 31, 2022, in the cardiology department of the Mother-Child University Hospital in Bamako, Luxembourg. Our study sample consisted of adult hypertensive patients, aged 18 years and older, received as an outpatient. Patients were included in our study after informed consent. The SM was established based on International Diabetes Federation (IDF) definitions. Results: Out of 520 patients, 238 were included in our study. The prevalence of SM was 30.2% according to IDF criteria. There was a female predominance (66%). The mean age was 57 ± 5 years. Grade II hypertension was in the majority with 39%. Seventy-five percent of patients with metabolic syndrome had 3 risk factors. Ischemic stroke was the most common complication with a rate of 12%. Dual therapy was indicated in 59.23% of patients. Calcium channel blockers were the most prescribed with a rate of 74.5%. SM is a reality in Mali. Adequate preventive measures are necessary to limit its progression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The objective of this work was to study cardio-renal syndrome in patients hospitalized in the cardiology department of the University Hospital Center Yalgado OUEDRAOGO (CHUYO). Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective, descriptive study for a period of three years, from 1st January 2010 to 31st December 2012. The study incorporated patients with associated signs of Heart Failure (HF) and Renal Insufficiency (RI). Sociodemographic, clinical and paraclinical parameters were considered in the study. We evaluated the value of creatinine clearance at admission and its progress during the hospitalization until patients were discharged. Results: Sample group of 119 patients over the period; the prevalence of the syndrome cardio-renal (CRF) was 10.93%. The mean age of our patients was 52.6 ± 16.6 years. (extremes: 15-85 years). The sex ratio was 1.33. Our patients' medical histories were dominated by high blood pressure (58.8%) and hypertensive heart disease (33.6%). Dyspnea was the major functional sign in our study (84.9%). Left heart failure syndrome (LHFS) was the most frequently encountered clinical picture (91.3%). The mean value of the creatinine clearance at baseline was 41.5 ± 24.3 mL/min/1.73m2. The signs ECGs and Doppler echocardiograms were those of underlying heart disease: the hypertensive heart disease. An abdominal-pelvic ultrasound found a bilateral kidney failure in 65.7% cases. The average length of hospitalization was 17.7 ± 17.5 days. Death occurred in 19.5% cases. Conclusion: The prevalence of CRS was high in the CHU-YO. The prognosis was largely influenced by whether it was an acute or chronic kidney failure. Emphasis should be placed on primary prevention of CRS, early diagnosis and etiology of renal failure. This work was aimed at describing the epidemiological, clinical, biological and electrical aspects of the orthostatic low blood pressure (LBP) within patients with high blood pressure (HBP) in the cardiology department of "CHU de KATI". The study was transverse and forward-looking, happening between June 1st, 2012 and May 31st, 2013. It was about all the patients with HBP regularly followed for a month and more, well observing their treatment and having no other treatments which can induce a orthostatic LBP. With a total of 300 subjects with high blood pressure, 42 subjects presented an orthostatic LBP with or without suggestive clinical demonstrations, among which 16 men and 26 women, with an average age of 55 year. In the HBP population, the orthostatic LBP had a 14% frequency(42/300),the sex ratio was 0.61. Most of the patients were 55 years old or more. The HBP was not controlled in 66,7%. Twelve percent of the patients with orthostatic LBP were diabetics. The number of used antihypertensive drug did not appear to influence the appearance of an orthostatic LBP. The monotherapy was associated with an orthostatic LBP in 47,6% and this monotherapy used the calcic inhibitors in 62% of the cases. The orthostatic low blood pressure is frequent within patient with HBP undergoing treatment. It must be systematically looked for, in particular in the uncontrolled HBP, among the old subjects, the diabetics, and those with a personal history of neurological disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to describe epidemiological,clinical, and biological aspects of proteinuria in hypertensive patients in the cardiology department of the University Hospital Gabriel Touré in Bamako. Patients and methods. It was a cross-sectional and descriptive study from January to December 2007 in the cardiology department of the University Hospital Gabriel Touré. Results. A total of 114 subjects were included (60 men and 54 women) with a mean age of 57 years, the sex ratio was 1.11. In the hypertensive population, chronic renal failure stage 1 to 2 was found in 12.9% (114/880). Patients under 60 years of age were more frequency affected with 61.5%. Proteinuria was found in 37 among 114 patients in chronic renal failure (32.5%). Proteinuria frequency in the general hypertensive population was 4.2% (37/880). Microalbuminuria was predominant compared to macro-albuminuria: 25.5% versus 7%. Dyspnea (38.6%) and headache (36.8%) were the main symptoms of hypertension. Renal ultrasound was abnormal in 14.1% with a predominance of stage 0 (76%), stages 1 and 2 each accounted for 7%. Conclusion. Proteinuria is a biological anomaly frequently associated with hypertension. His research is required when renal impairment is associated with hypertension. Objective. This work aimed to study the quality of diagnosis and support of hypertension by the practitioners of the CHU Gabriel TOURE and point G of Bamako. Materials and methods. It is a descriptive and analytic, cross-sectional study during the study period from 1 March 2009 to 28 February 2010. It concerned all physicians and paramedics of the centre hospitalo - scholars of the Point G and Gabriel TOURE in Bamako. Results. Total 283 practitioners (physicians and the paramedics) two centre hospitalo - scholars have accepted our questionnaire, including 133 doctors and 185 paramedics. CHU Gabriel TOURE was 55.1%, the majority came from the service of cardiology with 18.4%. Doctors constituted the largest square with 47.0%. The majority of our practitioners (59%) say it takes at least a united session during three medical consultations to diagnose the HBP. Only 29,60% define the HTA from 140/90 mm Hg. United goal 58, 30% and 57.20% of practitioners claimed to retain 140/90 mm Hg, respectively for the diabetic and the insufficient renal. A considerable number of our practitioners (27.9%) still used in pregnant women the triplet diuretic/lEG/diet without salt. The information for patients on some important aspects of pathology before any therapeutic strategy had been conducted in 63.6%. Conclusion. Objective. This work aimed to describe the epidemiological aspects, clinics, biological and ultrasound of the kidney insufficiency subclinical with hypertensive patients in the service of cardiology of the CHU Gabriel TOURÉ of Bamako. Patients and methods. The study was cross-sectional and prospective from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2007 in the cardiology department of the CHU Gabriel Touré. These were all patients who achieved at least the minimum balance of renal impairment to serum creatinine, 24 h proteinuria, renal ultrasound. Results. Total of 114 patients with kidney insufficiency without evocative clinical manifestations have summers included, 60 men and 54 women, average age of 57 years. In the hypertensive population, the beginner to moderate CKI had a frequency of 12.9% (114/880), the sex ratio was 1.11 for men. Patients aged less than 60 years were higher with a frequency of 61.5%. Dyspnea (38.6%), and headache (36.8%) were the main manifestations of the HBP. Renal disease characterized by microalbuminuria was predominant from the macro-albuminuria: 25.5% versus 7%. Renal ultrasound was abnormal in 14.1% with a predominance of stage 0 (86%), stages 1 and 2 were each 7%, we have not found in stage 3. Conclusion. Chronic renal failure is a common complication of the hypertension. Some biological tests are necessary for the diagnosis. Renal ultrasound is useful for its assessment review. The optimal treatment of hypertension is essential because it allows not only to reduce the overall cardiovascular risk of patients, but also to slow the worsening of renal function, or even stabilize.
