Abstract

Research has been conducted on the oxygen consumption of two decapod crustaceans and two prosobranch molluscs. The effects of the temperature, salinity and the oxygen partial pressure on the oxygen consumption have been investigated via the factorial experimental plan and synergistic interaction effects between different variables.

Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the occurrence of oxygen binding proteins in the Antarctic bivalve, Yoldia eightsi, using transmission electron microscopy after negative staining. Although hemocyanin (Hc) concentration was very low, it was still evident with the use of the microscopy technique. The appearance of Y. eightsi hemocyanin is distinctly different from the Hcs of Polyplacophora or Cephalopoda but almost similar to the structure found in Gastropoda.
