The article discusses a research study on the effects of the offshore construction at Horns Rev II wind farm in the Danish North Sea to the marine porpoises Phocoena phocoena in the area. Investigated were the temporal and spatial behavioural responses of Phocoena phocoena to the noise of construction through passive acoustic monitoring devices (T-PODs) that were placed in gradient sampling design. Findings indicated decreased porpoise activity by 100% after 1 hour of pile driving on the site and porpoises staying at lower than normal levels from 24 to 72 hours as far as 2.6 kilometers from the site. Additional findings include reduction of porpoise activity within the 5-month period of construction.

The article discusses a study on the connectivity and dynamics of spawning aggregations of blackspotted croaker Protonibea diacanthus in the Northern Territory (NT) which may have implications on its management. It states that acoustic receivers were deployed in the area to gather data. It says that the fishes were labeled with external dart tag for easy classification when captured. The study used several methods including Fourier transformation analysis (FFT) to assess temporal periodicity in fish presence, amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) to examine the genetic variation between sampled fishes, and acoustic telemetry to inspect P. diacanthus temporal and spatial movement patterns and site fidelity. The results of the study showed a lack of adult P. diacanthus interchange.

The article presents a study regarding the movements of leopard sharks in Elkhorn Slough, California. It notes that bays and estuaries are impacted by human activity as they play important roles in the life history of the leopard sharks. Leopard sharks were used in the study to understand its habitat use, spatial associations and their ecological roles. Acoustic transmitters were tagged on 21 female leopard sharks from August 2003 to February 2005. The seasonal change in tagged sharks are associated with changes in temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen. The study suggests for a focus in preserving and restoring intertidal mudflats as part of the efforts in protecting leopard shark habitats in bays and estuaries.
