Ruthenium (Ru) is a refractory metal that has applications in the semiconductor industry as a sputtering target material. However, conventional powder metallurgy methods cannot produce dense and fine-grained Ru targets with preferred orientation. Here, we present a novel method of hot-pressing deformation to fabricate Ru targets with high relative density (98.8%), small grain size (~4.4 μm) and strong (002) texture. We demonstrate that applying pressures of 30–40 MPa at 1400 °C transforms cylindrical Ru samples into disk-shaped targets with nearly full densification in the central region. We also show that the hardness and the (002)/(101) peak intensity ratio of the targets increase with the pressure, indicating enhanced mechanical and crystallographic properties. Among the various ceramic substrate materials, Si3N4 ceramics have demonstrated high thermal conductivity, good thermal shock resistance, and excellent corrosion resistance. As a result, they are well-suited for semiconductor substrates in high-power and harsh conditions encountered in automobiles, high-speed rail, aerospace, and wind power. In this work, Si3N4 ceramics with various ratios of α-Si3N4 and β-Si3N4 in raw powder form were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1650 °C for 30 min under 30 MPa. When the content of β-Si3N4 was lower than 20%, with the increase in β-Si3N4 content, the ceramic grain size changed gradually from 1.5 μm to 1 μm and finally resulted in 2 μm mixed grains. However, As the content of β-Si3N4 seed crystal increased from 20% to 50%, with the increase in β-Si3N4 content, the ceramic grain size changed gradually from 1 μm and 2 μm to 1.5 μm. Therefore, when the content of β-Si3N4 in the raw powder is 20%, the sintered ceramics exhibited a double-peak structure distribution and the best overall performance with a density of 97.5%, fracture toughness of 12.1 MPa·m1/2, and a Vickers hardness of 14.5 GPa. Orthotropic steel deck (OSD) are widely used in steel bridges because of their many advantages, but the structures and stresses of OSD are complex and sensitive to fatigue. Based on the model test, the structural fatigue analysis of OSD is carried out by using the extended finite element method (XFEM) to understand and reveal the causes of fatigue detail cracks and the generation and propagation of fatigue cracks at the welding ends of diaphragms, U-ribs, and diaphragms, which are the main structural fatigue details of the deck. The results show that: the fatigue crack at the diaphragm opening is not caused by a single factor, but the horizontal relative displacement is the root-cause of the fatigue crack; the contribution of out-of-plane displacement to the fatigue crack is more significant than that of vertical displacement or in-plane stress, which often leads to the initiation and propagation of the fatigue crack; the crack-propagation direction is perpendicular to the contour of principal stress, and the crack propagates into the plate along the high-stress area in the horizontal direction, which is in accordance with the basic theory of crack propagation. LuAG:Ce (Lu3Al5O12:Ce) is one of the most important color converters in white lighting industry. Especially, LuAG:Ce film attracts more attention due to the outstanding advantages, such as the efficient heat dissipation, the saving of rare earth, and so on. Here, LuAG:Ce film on sapphire was successfully prepared by the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis process. The phase, microstructure and photoluminescence of LuAG:Ce films were investigated. LuAG:Ce films had a thickness of around 5 μm, which were well crystallized at 1000 °C in air atmosphere to form the typical garnet structure. Under the protection of CO atmosphere, increasing the annealing temperature greatly enhanced the photoluminescence performance. After annealing at 1500 °C for 5 h in CO atmosphere, 3.0 mol.% Ce3+ doped LuAG:Ce film exhibited the highest emission and excitation intensity. The emission intensity of 3.0 mol.% Ce3+ doped LuAG:Ce film annealed at 1500 °C in CO atmosphere increased up to five times, when compared with the best LuAG:Ce film annealed at 1000 °C in air atmosphere. The effects of Ce3+ doping concentration on the photoluminescence were also examined. As the Ce3+ doping concentration increased from 0.2 mol.% to 7.0 mol.%, the color of LuAG:Ce films changed from yellowish green to greenish yellow. When coupling the 3.0 mol.% Ce3+ doped LuAG:Ce film with a 0.5 W 450 nm blue laser, the formed device successfully emitted white light. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ag/Y2O3 has excellent potential to replace Ag/CdO as the environmentally friendly electrical contact material. Using spherical Y2O3 as the starting material, Ag/Y2O3 contacts with a quasi-continuous network structure were successfully fabricated by a low-energy ball milling treatment. The mean size of Y2O3 used ranged from 243 to 980 nm. Due to the differences in the size of Y2O3, Ag/Y2O3 contacts had different primitive microstructures, thereby exhibiting distinctive anti-arc-erosion capabilities. Ag/Y2O3 contact prepared using 243 nm Y2O3 showed the best anti-arc-erosion capability and the most outstanding electrical performance measures, such as low contact resistance, less mass transfer, and no failure up to 105 cycle times. The quasi-continuous network structure formed in the micro-scale was responsible for the excellent electrical performance. The short distance between Y2O3 particles in the network promoted the cathode arc motion, and thus alleviated the localized erosion. The preparation of yolk–shell microwave absorption materials with low density and excellent microwave absorption property requires reasonable design and economical manufacture. In this study, an efficient strategy without any templates or reducing gases has been designed to fabricate multi-core yolk–shell Co@C nanospheres by high temperature carbonization. The results showed that Co3O4 was completely reduced by the carbon shell to metal cobalt at temperatures above 750 °C. This unique multi-core yolk–shell structure with shell of 600 nm and multiple cores of tens of nanometers can provide sufficient interface and space to reflect and scatter electromagnetic waves. At the same time, the metal cobalt layer and carbon layer provide magnetic loss ability and dielectric loss ability, respectively, making the composite show good wave absorption performance. The minimal RL value of samples carbonized at 750 °C reaches −40 dB and the efficient absorption band reaches 9 GHz with the thickness ranges from 2–9 mm. Therefore, this is a facile, effective and economical strategy to prepare yolk–shell structure, which provides a new idea for the preparation of microwave absorption materials. Rational design and economic fabrication are essential to develop carbonic electrode materials with optimized porosity for high-performance supercapacitors. Herein, nitrogen-doped hollow carbon nanospheres (NHCSs) derived from resorcinol and formaldehyde resin are successfully prepared via a self-template strategy. The porosity and heteroatoms in the carbon shell can be adjusted by purposefully introducing various dosages of ammonium ferric citrate (AFC). Under the optimum AFC dosage (30 mg), the as-prepared NHCS-30 possesses hierarchical architecture, high specific surface area up to 1987 m2·g−1, an ultrahigh mesopore proportion of 98%, and moderate contents of heteroatoms, and these features endow it with a high specific capacitance of 206.5 F·g−1 at 0.2 A·g−1, with a good rate capability of 125 F·g−1 at 20 A·g−1 as well as outstanding electrochemical stability after 5000 cycles in a 6 M KOH electrolyte. Furthermore, the assembled NHCS-30 based symmetric supercapacitor delivers an energy density of 14.1 W·h·kg−1 at a power density of 200 W·kg−1 in a 6 M KOH electrolyte. This work provides not only an appealing model to study the effect of structural and component change on capacitance, but also general guidance to expand functionality electrode materials by the self-template method.
