This study aims to understand the development trends and research structure of articles on artificial intelligence (AI) and information processing in the past 10 years. In particular, this study analyzed 13,294 papers published from 2012 to 2021 in the Web of Science, used the bibliometric analysis method to visualize the data of the papers, and drew a scientific knowledge map. By exploring the development of mainstream journals, author and country rankings, keyword evolution, and research field rankings in the past 10 years, this study uncovered key trends affecting AI progress and information processing that provide insights and serve as an important reference for future AI research and information processing. The results revealed a gradual increase in publications over the past decade, with explosive growth after 2020. The most prolific researchers in this field were Xu, Z.S.; Pedrycz, W.; Herrera-Viedma, E.; the major contributing countries were China, the USA, and Spain. In the AI and information processing research, keywords including "Deep learning", "Machine learning", and "Feature extraction" are components that play a crucial role. Additionally, the most representative research areas were "Engineering", "Operations Research and Management Science", and "Automation Control Systems". Overall, this study used bibliometric analysis to provide an overview of the latest trends in artificial intelligence and information processing. Although AI and information processing have been applied to various research areas, many other sub-topics can be further applied. Human capital in hospitality has been widely addressed by applying sophisticated econometric methods. However, for the Spanish case, there was a gap in the analyses as the crucial importance of collective agreements was undervalued. This paper redesigns the conceptualisation of the variables and applies a subsequent new classification to job positions, as it deals with the outliers at different levels of rigorousness. Then, linearised and quantile regressions were run for each case, obtaining an outcome of thirty values for each variable. The analyses and comparisons show the high importance of collective agreements on salaries, the noticeable low values of human capital variables, and provides additional information for the nationality and gender gaps, the latter strikingly high in upper professional categories. Overall, this paper demonstrates the importance of a proper study design to prevent advanced econometric models from falling into bias and it minimises the differences between methods. The COVID-19 outbreak was a major event that greatly impacted the economy and the health systems around the world. Understanding the behavior of the virus and being able to perform long-term and short-term future predictions of the daily new cases is a working field for machine learning methods and mathematical models. This paper compares Verhulst's, Gompertz´s, and SIR models from the point of view of their efficiency to describe the behavior of COVID-19 in Spain. These mathematical models are used to predict the future of the pandemic by first solving the corresponding inverse problems to identify the model parameters in each wave separately, using as observed data the daily cases in the past. The posterior distributions of the model parameters are then inferred via the Metropolis–Hastings algorithm, comparing the robustness of each prediction model and making different representations to visualize the results obtained concerning the posterior distribution of the model parameters and their predictions. The knowledge acquired is used to perform predictions about the evolution of both the daily number of infected cases and the total number of cases during each wave. As a main conclusion, predictive models are incomplete without a corresponding uncertainty analysis of the corresponding inverse problem. The invariance of the output (posterior prediction) with respect to the forward predictive model that is used shows that the methodology shown in this paper can be used to adopt decisions in real practice (public health). Respiratory viruses, such as COVID-19, are spread over time and space based on human-to-human interactions. Human mobility plays a key role in the propagation of the virus. Different types of sensors in smart cities are able to continuously monitor traffic-related human mobility, showing the impact of COVID-19 on traffic volumes and patterns. In a similar way, traffic volumes measured by smart traffic sensors provide a proxy variable to capture human mobility, which is expected to have an impact on new COVID-19 infections. Adding traffic data from smart city sensors to machine learning models designed to estimate upcoming COVID-19 incidence values should provide optimized results compared to models based on COVID-19 data alone. This paper proposes a novel model to extract spatio-temporal patterns in the spread of the COVID-19 virus for short-term predictions by organizing COVID-19 incidence and traffic data as interrelated temporal sequences of spatial images. The model is trained and validated with real data from the city of Madrid in Spain for 84 weeks, combining information from 4372 traffic measuring points and 143 COVID-19 PCR test centers. The results are compared with a baseline model designed for the extraction of spatio-temporal patterns from COVID-19-only sequences of images, showing that using traffic information enhances the results when forecasting a new wave of infections (MSE values are reduced by a 70% factor). The information that traffic data has on the spread of the COVID-19 virus is also analyzed, showing that traffic data alone is not sufficient for accurate COVID-19 forecasting. A new mathematical model of Coronavirus (2019-nCov) using piecewise hybrid fractional order derivatives is given in this paper. Moreover, in order to be consistent with the physical model problem, a new parameter μ is presented. The boundedness, existence, and positivity of the solutions for the proposed model are discussed. Two improved numerical methods are presented in this paper. The Caputo proportional constant nonstandard modified Euler–Maruyama method is introduced to study the fractional stochastic model, and the Grünwald–Letnikov nonstandard finite difference method is presented to study the hybrid fractional order deterministic model. This paper deals with the analysis of the persistence in the Harmonized Indices of Consumer Prices in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The degree of persistence is measured through fractional integration or I (d) techniques, using monthly data from January 2010 to February 2023. We first conducted the analysis with data ending in December 2019, that is, with data prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, we extended the sample, first up to December 2021 and finally to February 2023. Our results show that the findings of our series are highly persistent, with values of the differencing parameter about one or higher than one in the majority of cases. In fact, mean reversion is only observed in the case of Germany with pre-pandemic data. Generally, we observed an increase in the degree of persistence of the series as a consequence of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia–Ukraine war, with the only exception being Spain, where we observe a reduction in the order of integration when including 2022–2023 data. The COVID-19 pandemic led to higher education institutions adopting alternative teaching models to continue their work while complying with health measures. Specifically, in Spain, once the lockdown period was over, universities adopted the blended learning (BL) model, which allowed for a partial return to the classroom. The BL model meant a completely new approach for students that impacted their learning experience. Using structural equation modelling (SEM), this paper explores in-depth students' experience with BL—social–behavioural, cognitive–affective, sensory and formative—and tests the impact of BL on students' satisfaction and their commitment to learning. Data were collected from a sample of 467 undergraduate students at Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) who filled out a self-administered questionnaire. The model proposed shows fit indices above the recommended thresholds, indicating an adequate model fit. Results suggest a positive influence of the different dimensions of BL experience on satisfaction. In addition, satisfaction with BL had a positive impact on students' affective commitment. Going by these results, the students' experience with BL has been positive, increasing their willingness to study. In this paper, we describe an educational experience in the context of the Master's degree that is compulsory in Spain to become a secondary education mathematics teacher. Master's students from two universities in Madrid (Spain) attended lectures that addressed—emphasizing the concourse of a dynamic geometry software package—some historical, didactic and mathematical issues related to linkage mechanisms, such as those arising in the 18th and 19th centuries during the development of the steam engine. Afterwards, participants were asked to provide three different kinds of feedback: (i) working on an assigned group task, (ii) individually answering a questionnaire, and (iii) proposing some classroom activity, imagining it would be addressed to their prospective pupils. All three issues focused on the specific topic of the attended lectures. In the framework of Mason's reflective discourse analysis, the information supplied by the participants has been analyzed. The objective was to explore what they have learned from the experience and what their perception is of the potential interest in linkages as a methodological instrument for their future professional activity as teachers. This analysis is then the basis upon which to reflect on the opportunities (and problems) that this particular bar-joint linkages methodological approach could bring towards providing future mathematics teachers with attractive tools that would contribute to enhancing a STEAM-oriented education. Finally, the students' answers allow us to conclude that the experience was beneficial for these pre-service teachers, both in improving their knowledge on linkages history, mathematics, industrial, technological and artistic applications, and in enhancing the use in the classroom of this very suitable STEAM context. This paper presents the population pyramid dynamics model (PPDM) to study the evolution of the population pyramid of a determined country or society, deducing as a crucial objective its exact analytical solution. The PPDM is a first-order linear partial differential equation whose unknown variable is the population density (population per age unit) depending on time and age, jointly an initial condition in the initial time and a boundary condition given by the births in the zero age. In addition, the dynamical patterns of the crude birth, death, immigration and emigration rates depending on time, jointly with the mathematical pattern of the initial population pyramid depending on ages, take part of the PPDM. These patterns can be obtained from the historical data. An application case of the PPDM analytical solution is presented: Spain, in the 2007–2021 period for its validation, and in the 2021–2026 period for its future forecasting. This application case also permits to obtain the forecasting limits of the PPDM by comparing the historical data with those provided by the PPDM. The evolution of some epidemics, such as influenza, demonstrates common patterns both in different regions and from year to year. On the contrary, epidemics such as the novel COVID-19 show quite heterogeneous dynamics and are extremely susceptible to the measures taken to mitigate their spread. In this paper, we propose empirical dynamic modeling to predict the evolution of influenza in Spain's regions. It is a non-parametric method that looks into the past for coincidences with the present to make the forecasts. Here, we extend the method to predict the evolution of other epidemics at any other starting territory and we also test this procedure with Spanish COVID-19 data. We finally build influenza and COVID-19 networks to check possible coincidences in the geographical distribution of both diseases. This paper deals with the construction of a discrete dynamic population model addressed to estimate the expected size of the immigration population in a finite short period of time in Spain. By paying attention to a special subpopulation of interest, such as an irregular immigrant, unaccompanied minor immigrant and regular immigrant, a vector discrete population model is built after the discussion and introduction of proper hypotheses linked to economy, host and country of origin regulation policies, political interest and others. This paper explores the application of spatial models to non-life insurance data focused on the multi-risk home insurance branch. In the pricing modelling and rating process, spatial information should be considered by actuaries and insurance managers because frequencies and claim sizes may vary by region and the premium should be different considering this rating variable. In addition, it is relevant to examine the spatial dependence due to the fact that the frequency of claims in neighbouring regions is often expected to be more closely related than those in regions far from each other. In this paper, a comparison between spatial models, such as spatial autoregressive models (SAR), the spatial error model (SEM), and the spatial Durbin model (SDM), and a non-spatial model has been developed. This paper studies the economically significant problem of the optimization of customs fraud control, which is a critical issue for many countries. The European Union (EU) alone handles 4693 tons of goods every minute (2018 figures). Even though 70% of goods are imported at zero tariff, the EU raised EUR 25.4 billions in 2018, and customs-related income transferred by member states to the EU accounts for nearly 13% of its overall budget. In this field, (a) the conflicting objectives are qualitative and cannot be reduced to a common measure (security and terrorism, health, drug market access control, taxes, etc.); (b) each submitted item has dozens of characteristics; (c) there are constraints; and (d) risk analysis systems have to make decisions in real time. Although the World Customs Organization has promoted the use of artificial intelligence to increase the precision of controls, the problem is very complex due to the data characteristics and interpretability, which is a requirement established by customs officers. In this paper, we propose a new Bayesian-based hybrid approach combining machine learning and multi-objective linear programming (MOLP), called multi-objective Bayesian with dynamic optimization (MOBADO). We demonstrate that it is possible to more than double (with a 237% increase) the precision of current inspection systems, freeing up almost 50% of human resources, and outperform past results with respect to each of the above objectives. MOBADO is an optimization technique that could be combined with any artificial intelligence approach capable of optimizing the quality of multi-objective risk analysis in real time. The gender gap in STEM-related job positions is a fact, and it is closely related to the low percentage of women studying STEM degrees. This poses a problem because Europe, as well as the United States and the rest of the developed countries, keep demanding the best engineers and scientists to continue developing innovative products. This problem can thus be approached by answering, firstly, the following question: Why are women not studying STEM degrees? In this paper, we summarize the factors, found in literature, that influence students—both boys and girls—to not study STEM, particularly engineering, computer sciences and technology. We study these influence factors in a sample of N = 338 students from a secondary school placed in the south of Spain; we carry out a survey in order to find out if those students fill out the same answers other researchers have found and published in the related literature. Our main conclusions are as follows: The results confirm that the number of women in technical courses decreases when the level of the course increases; the lack of role models is not an impediment for girls to feel comfortable; unlike boys, girls will not choose engineering, even if their scoring in STEM is good; and we found that girls and women see themselves as not capable of studying an engineering degree more than boys and men do. These results contribute to a deeper understanding of the situation regarding the gender gap in STEM fields in ages in which both girls and boys must choose their future studies. In recent years, there has been growing concern regarding energy efficiency in the building sector with energy requirements increasing worldwide and now responsible for about 40% of final energy consumption in Europe. Previous research has shown that ventilated façades help to reduce energy use when cooling buildings in hot and temperate climates. Of the different ventilated façade configurations reported in the literature, the configuration of ventilated façade with window rarely has been studied, and its 3D thermodynamic behavior is deserving of further analysis and modeling. This paper examines the thermal behavior of an opaque ventilated façade with a window, in experimentally and numerical terms and its impact in energy savings to get indoor comfort. Field measurements were conducted during the winter, spring and summer seasons of 2021 using outdoor full scale test cells located in Seville (southern Spain). The modeling of the ventilated façade was carried out using a three-dimensional approach taking into account the 3D behavior of the air flow in the air cavity due to the presence of the window. The validation and comparison process using experimental data showed that the proposed model provided good results from quantitative and qualitative point of view. The reduction of the heat flux was assessed by comparing the energy performance of a ventilated façade with that of an unventilated façade. Both experimental and numerical results showed that the ventilated façade provided a reduction in annual total energy consumption when compared to the unventilated façade, being compensated the winter energy penalization by the summer energy savings. This reduction is about 21 % for the whole typical climatic year showing the ability of the opaque ventilated façade studied to reduce energy consumption to insure indoor comfort, making its suitable for use in retrofitting the energy-obsolete building stock built in Spain in the middle decades of the 20 century. Linking pensions to longevity developments at retirement age has been one of the most common policy responses of pension schemes to aging populations. The introduction of automatic stabilizers is primarily motivated by cost containment objectives, but there are other dimensions of welfare restructuring in the politics of pension reforms, including recalibration, rationalization, and blame avoidance for unpopular policies that involve retrenchments. This paper examines the policy designs and implications of linking entry pensions to life expectancy developments through sustainability factors or life expectancy coefficients in Finland, Portugal, and Spain. To address conceptual and specification uncertainty in policymaking, we propose and apply a Bayesian model averaging approach to stochastic mortality modeling and life expectancy computation. The results show that: (i) sustainability factors will generate substantial pension entitlement reductions in the three countries analyzed; (ii) the magnitude of the pension losses depends on the factor design; (iii) to offset pension cuts and safeguard pension adequacy, individuals will have to prolong their working lives significantly; (iv) factor designs considering cohort longevity markers would have generated higher pension cuts in countries with increasing life expectancy gap. Over the last few decades, public programs have driven the gradual adoption of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in education. The most ambitious project in Spain so far was Escuela 2.0, which provided students from the regions that opted into the program with laptops. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the impact of this program on school performance and productivity. To do this, we developed a new methodological approach based on combining causal inference techniques and the analysis of production frontiers. We calculated the differences in productivity and performance between treated and control schools using the base-group Camanho–Dyson Malmquist index and the base-group performance gap index. We estimate the impact of the program as the variation of these differences, following the essence of the difference-in-differences analysis. This paper provides an accurate chronology of the Spanish reference business cycle adapting a multiple change-point model. In that approach, each combination of peaks and troughs dated in a set of economic indicators is assumed to be a realization of a mixture of bivariate Gaussian distributions, whose number of components is estimated from the data. The means of each of these components refer to the dates of the reference turning points. The transitions across the components of the mixture are governed by Markov chain that is restricted to force left-to-right transition dynamic. In the empirical application, seven recessions in the period from February 1970 to February 2020 are identified, which are in high concordance with the timing of the turning point dates established by the Spanish Business Cycle Dating Committee (SBCDC). Seasonality is a widely recognised and accredited phenomenon known to cause an imbalance in tourism activity throughout the year, prompting tourist destinations, both public and private, to consider how best to plan the use of their resources. One way of mitigating the economic imbalances that seasonality can cause is to find strategies for seasonal adjustment, such as travel programmes aimed at the elderly. This paper analyses the seasonality of tourism activity in some EU countries, and in particular in Spain. Different indicators are used to compare the results and carry out a sensitivity analysis. The study then focuses on tourism programmes for the elderly in Spain to see whether this type of programme helps to alleviate the seasonality of tourism activity. Longevity risk is a major concern for governments around the world as they have to address social benefits, whether in the form of pensions, healthcare, or caring for dependents and providing long-term care, and so forth, which directly impact countries' budgets. This paper uses a single entropy index to measure this type of risk. This methodology is clearly different from the one traditionally used in the literature, which is nearly entirely based on measuring the evolution of mathematical life expectancy. The authors used the longest-living populations in the world, Japan and Spain, to create a database in order to analyse the virtue of the indicator. The aim was to establish whether the longevity of those populations is accelerating or decelerating, compared by sex, and whether that occurs at the same intensity at different stages of a person's life in each case. Research on mathematics teachers' knowledge has generally focused more on mathematics concepts than mathematical processes. This paper addresses the latter with a focus on mathematical problem solving (PS). It reports on a study that investigated the pedagogical knowledge for PS of prospective elementary school teachers of mathematics (PTs). Participants were 149 PTs at a university in Spain. They were at the end of their teacher education program. Data sources consisted of a questionnaire on knowledge of learning PS and a questionnaire on knowledge of teaching PS. Findings indicated that the PTs held combination of different levels of knowledge of PS learning and teaching. Many of them demonstrated appropriate knowledge of many characteristics for (1) PS learning consisting of student as a problem-solver, PS as a worthwhile task, non-cognitive factor related to PS, and (2) PS teaching consisting of PS teaching approaches, discourse in PS, intervention during stuck state in PS, PS assessment, and PS resources. However, there were also contradictions and limitations to their knowledge with implications for teacher education. These combination of appropriate and inappropriate knowledge resulted in some conflicts that are related to teaching actions and would limit student' learning of PS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To study the reasons of the low academic performance of students in Spain, authorities must consider emotional dimensions, such as well-being, which directly affect their learning achievement. Furthermore, it would be interesting to compare Spanish students with students from Finland, which stand out in international rankings. We analyze how to promote students' well-being in Spain as a mechanism to enhance their academic achievement. Using data from PISA 2018, four indicators are used to measure well-being according to variables describing the students' context. By means of econometric techniques, interval multiobjective linear programming problems are formulated for Spain and Finland and solved through a new methodological scheme proposed in this paper, assuring the generation of possibly and necessarily efficient solutions in interval multiobjective linear programming. The purpose is to determine which aspects would allow the best possible well-being to be reached. We found several differences between the students achieving optimal compromise levels in each country, and we analyzed how the improvement of one indicator might affect the remaining aspects of well-being. Spanish students can further enhance their well-being compared to Finnish students. Furthermore, the lowest improvement rate is associated with the bullying index, especially in Finland, highlighting the need to promote anti-bullying measures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
