The COVID-19 epidemic has required countries to implement different containment strategies to limit its spread, like strict or weakened national lockdown rules and the application of age-stratified vaccine prioritization strategies. These interventions have in turn modified the age-dependent patterns of social contacts. In our recent paper, starting from the available age-structured real data at the national level, we identified, for the Italian case, specific virulence parameters for a two-age-structured COVID-19 epidemic compartmental model (under 60, and 60 years and over) in six different diseases transmission scenarios under concurrently adopted feedback interventions. An interpretation of how each external scenario modifies the age-dependent patterns of social contacts and the spread of COVID-19 disease has been accordingly provided. In this paper, which can be viewed as a sequel to the previous one, we mainly apply the same general methodology therein (involving the same dynamic model) to new data covering the three subsequent additional scenarios: (i) a mitigated coordinated intermittent regional action in conjunction with the II vaccination phase; (ii) a super-attenuated coordinated intermittent regional action in conjunction with the II vaccination phase; and (iii) a last step towards normality in conjunction with the start of the III vaccination phase. As a new contribution, we show how meaningful updated information can be drawn out, once the identification of virulence parameters, characterizing the two age groups within the latest three different phases, is successfully carried out. Nevertheless, differently from our previous paper, the global optimization procedure is carried out here with the number of susceptible individuals in each scenario being left free to change, to account for reinfection and immunity due to vaccination. Not only do the slightly different estimates we obtain for the previous scenarios not impact any of the previous considerations (and thus illustrate the robustness of the procedure), but also, and mainly, the new results provide a meaningful picture of the evolution of social behaviors, along with the goodness of strategic interventions. Several research papers have attempted to describe the dynamics of COVID-19 based on systems of differential equations. These systems have taken into account quarantined or isolated cases, vaccinations, control measures, and demographic parameters, presenting propositions regarding theoretical results that often investigate the asymptotic behavior of the system. In this paper, we discuss issues that concern the theoretical results proposed in the paper "An Extended SEIR Model with Vaccination for Forecasting the COVID-19 Pandemic in Saudi Arabia Using an Ensemble Kalman Filter". We propose detailed explanations regarding the resolution of these issues. Additionally, this paper focuses on extending the local stability analysis of the disease-free equilibrium, as presented in the aforementioned paper, while emphasizing the derivation of theorems that validate the global stability of both epidemic equilibria. Emphasis is placed on the basic reproduction number R 0 , which determines the asymptotic behavior of the system. This index represents the expected number of secondary infections that are generated from an already infected case in a population where almost all individuals are susceptible. The derived propositions can inform health authorities about the long-term behavior of the phenomenon, potentially leading to more precise and efficient public measures. Finally, it is worth noting that the examined paper still presents an interesting epidemiological scheme, and the utilization of the Kalman filtering approach remains one of the state-of-the-art methods for modeling epidemic phenomena. In this paper, we examine the epidemiological model B-SIR, focusing on the dynamic law that governs the transmission rate B. We define this dynamic law by the differential equation B ′ / B = F ⊕ − F ⊖ , where F ⊖ represents a reaction factor reflecting the stress proportional to the active group's percentage variation. Conversely, F ⊕ is a factor proportional to the deviation of B from its intrinsic value. We introduce the notion of contagion impulse f and explore its role within the model. Specifically, for the case where F ⊕ = 0 , we derive an autonomous differential system linking the effective reproductive number with f and subsequently analyze its dynamics. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic disrupted public health and economies worldwide. In this paper, we investigate an optimal control problem to simultaneously minimize the epidemic size and control costs associated with intervention strategies based on official data. Considering people with undetected infections, we establish a control system of COVID-19 with time-varying parameters. To estimate these parameters, a parameter identification scheme is adopted and a mixed algorithm is constructed. Moreover, we present an optimal control problem with two objectives that involve the newly increased number of infected individuals and the control costs. A numerical scheme is conducted, simulating the epidemic data pertaining to Shanghai during the period of 2022, caused by the Omicron variant. Coefficient combinations of the objectives are obtained, and the optimal control measures for different infection peaks are indicated. The numerical results suggest that the identification variables obtained by using the constructed mixed algorithm to solve the parameter identification problem are feasible. COVID-19 is a contagious disease that poses a serious risk to public health worldwide. To reduce its spread, people need to adopt preventive behaviours such as wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, and isolating themselves if they are infected. However, the effectiveness of these measures may depend on various factors that differ across countries. This paper investigates how some factors, namely outsiders' effect, life expectancy, population density, smoker percentage, and temperature, influence the transmission and death rate of COVID-19 in ninety-five top-affected countries. We collect and analyse the data of COVID-19 cases and deaths using statistical tests. We also use fuzzy logic to model the chances of COVID-19 based on the results of the statistical tests. Unlike the conventional uniform weighting of the rule base in fuzzy logic, we propose a novel method to calculate the weights of the rule base according to the significance of the factors. The COVID-19 outbreak has brought to the forefront the importance of predicting and controlling an epidemic outbreak with policies such as vaccination or reducing social contacts. This paper studies an SIHR epidemic model characterized by susceptible (S), non-seriously infected (I), hospitalized (H), and recovered (R) subpopulations, and dynamic vaccination; vaccination itself and H are fed back, and its dynamics are also determined by a free-design time-dependent function and parameters. From a theoretical analysis, the well-posedness of the model is demonstrated; positivity and the disease-free ( P d f ) and endemic ( P e e ) equilibrium points are analyzed. The controlled reproduction number ( R c ) is proved to be a threshold for the local asymptotic stability of  P d f  and the existence  P e e ; when  R c < 1  ( R c > 1 ), then  P d f  is (not) locally asymptotically stable and  P e e  does not (does) exist. Simulations have been carried out with data concerning COVID-19 where the importance of keeping  R c < 1  to prevent the disease spreading and future deaths is highlighted. In this work, we developed, validated, and analysed the behaviour of a compartmental model of COVID-19 transmission in Saudi Arabia. The population was structured into four classes: susceptible (S), exposed (E), infectious (I), and removed (R) individuals. This SEIR model assumes a bilinear incidence rate and a nonlinear recovery rate that depends on the quality of health services. The model also considers a treatment function and incorporates the effect of fear due to the disease. We derived the expression of the basic reproduction number and the equilibrium points of the model and demonstrated that when the reproduction number is less than one, the disease-free equilibrium is stable, and the model predicts a backward bifurcation. We further found that when the reproduction number is larger than one, the model predicts stable periodic behaviour. Finally, we used numerical simulations with parameter values fitted to Saudi Arabia to analyse the effects of the model parameters on the model-predicted dynamic behaviours. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Various published COVID-19 models have been used in epidemiological studies and healthcare planning to model and predict the spread of the disease and appropriately realign health measures and priorities given the resource limitations in the field of healthcare. However, a significant issue arises when these models need help identifying the distribution of the constituent variants of COVID-19 infections. The emergence of such a challenge means that, given limited healthcare resources, health planning would be ineffective and cost lives. This work presents a universal neural network (NN) computational instrument for predicting the mainstream symptomatic infection rate of COVID-19 and models of the distribution of its associated variants. The NN is based on a mixture density network (MDN) with a Gaussian mixture model (GMM) object as a backbone. Twelve use cases were used to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the proposed MDN. The use cases included COVID-19 data for Canada and Saudi Arabia, two date ranges (300 and 500 days), two input data modes, and three activation functions, each with different implementations of the batch size and epoch value. This array of scenarios provided an opportunity to investigate the impacts of epistemic uncertainty (EU) and aleatoric uncertainty (AU) on the prediction model's fitting. The model accuracy readings were in the high nineties based on a tolerance margin of 0.0125. The primary outcome of this work indicates that this easy-to-use universal MDN helps provide reliable predictions of COVID-19 variant distributions and the corresponding synthesized profile of the mainstream infection rate. The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, continues to impact the world even three years after its outbreak. International border closures and health alerts severely affected the air transport industry, resulting in substantial financial losses. This study analyzes the global data on infected individuals alongside aircraft types, flight durations, and passenger flows. Using a Bayesian framework, we forecast the risk of infection during commercial flights and its potential spread across an air transport network. Our model allows us to explore the effect of mitigation measures, such as closing individual routes or airports, reducing aircraft occupancy, or restricting access for infected passengers, on disease propagation, while allowing the air industry to operate at near-normal levels. This article introduces a discrete-time fractional variable order over a SEIQR model, incorporated for COVID-19. Initially, we establish the well-possedness of solution. Further, the disease-free and the endemic equilibrium points are determined. Moreover, the local asymptotic stability of the model is analyzed. We develop a novel discrete fractional optimal control problem tailored for COVID-19, utilizing a discrete mathematical model featuring a variable order fractional derivative. Social networks and official statistics have become vital sources of information in times of health emergencies. The ability to monitor and profile social sentiment is essential for understanding public perception and response in the context of public health crises, such as the one resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. This study will explore how social sentiment monitoring and profiling can be conducted using information from social networks and official statistics, and how this combination of data can offer a more complete picture of social dynamics in times of emergency, providing a valuable tool for understanding public perception and guiding a public health response. To this end, a three-layer architecture based on Big Data and Artificial Intelligence is presented: the first layer focuses mainly on collecting, storing, and governing the necessary data such as social media and official statistics; in the second layer, the representation models and machine learning necessary for knowledge generation are built, and in the third layer the previously generated knowledge is adapted for better understanding by crisis managers through visualization techniques among others. Based on this architecture, a KDD (Knowledge Discovery in Databases) framework is implemented using methodological tools such as sentiment analysis, fuzzy 2-tuple linguistic models and time series prediction with the Prophet model. As a practical demonstration of the proposed model, we use tweets as data source (from the social network X, formerly known as Twitter) generated during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown period in Spain, which are processed to identify the overall sentiment using sentiment analysis techniques and fuzzy linguistic variables, and combined with official statistical indicators for prediction, visualizing the results through dashboards. Due to the non-linear and non-stationary nature of daily new 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case time series, existing prediction methods struggle to accurately forecast the number of daily new cases. To address this problem, a hybrid prediction framework is proposed in this study, which combines ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), fuzzy entropy (FE) reconstruction, and a CNN-LSTM-ATT hybrid network model. This new framework, named EEMD-FE-CNN-LSTM-ATT, is applied to predict the number of daily new COVID-19 cases. This study focuses on the daily new case dataset from the United States as the research subject to validate the feasibility of the proposed prediction framework. The results show that EEMD-FE-CNN-LSTM-ATT outperforms other baseline models in all evaluation metrics, demonstrating its efficacy in handling the non-linear and non-stationary epidemic time series. Furthermore, the generalizability of the proposed hybrid framework is validated on datasets from France and Russia. The world has been fighting against the COVID-19 Coronavirus which seems to be constantly mutating. The present wave of COVID-19 illness is caused by the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. The vaccines against the five variants (α, β, γ, δ, and ω) have been quickly developed using mRNA technology. The efficacy of the vaccine developed for one of the strains is not the same as the efficacy of the vaccine developed for the other strains. In this study, a mathematical model of the spread of COVID-19 was made by considering asymptomatic population, symptomatic population, two infected populations and quarantined population. An analysis of basic reproduction numbers was made using the next-generation matrix method. Global asymptotic stability analysis was made using the Lyapunov theory to measure stability, showing an equilibrium point's stability, and examining the model with the fact of COVID-19 spread in Thailand. Moreover, an analysis of the sensitivity values of the basic reproduction numbers was made to verify the parameters affecting the spread. It was found that the most common parameter affecting the spread was the initial number in the population. Optimal control problems and social distancing strategies in conjunction with mask-wearing and vaccination control strategies were determined to find strategies to give better control of the spread of disease. Lagrangian and Hamiltonian functions were employed to determine the objective function. Pontryagin's maximum principle was employed to verify the existence of the optimal control. According to the study, the use of social distancing in conjunction with mask-wearing and vaccination control strategies was able to achieve optimal control rather than controlling just one or another.
