The adoption of deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) has surged in recent years because of their imperative practicalities in different disciplines. Among these feasible workabilities are the noteworthy contributions of ML and DL, especially ant colony optimization (ACO) and whale optimization algorithm (WOA) ameliorated with neural networks (NNs) to identify specific categories of skin lesion disorders (SLD) precisely, supporting even high-experienced healthcare providers (HCPs) in performing flexible medical diagnoses, since historical patient databases would not necessarily help diagnose other patient situations. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of rich investigations respecting the contributory influences of ACO and WOA in the SLD classification, owing to the recent adoption of ML and DL in the medical field. Accordingly, a comprehensive review is conducted to shed light on relevant ACO and WOA functionalities for enhanced SLD identification. It is hoped, relying on the overview findings, that clinical practitioners and low-experienced or talented HCPs could benefit in categorizing the most proper therapeutical procedures for their patients by referring to a collection of abundant practicalities of those two models in the medical context, particularly (a) time, cost, and effort savings, and (b) upgraded accuracy, reliability, and performance compared with manual medical inspection mechanisms that repeatedly fail to correctly diagnose all patients. The medical sciences are facing a major problem with the auto-detection of disease due to the fast growth in population density. Intelligent systems assist medical professionals in early disease detection and also help to provide consistent treatment that reduces the mortality rate. Skin cancer is considered to be the deadliest and most severe kind of cancer. Medical professionals utilize dermoscopy images to make a manual diagnosis of skin cancer. This method is labor-intensive and time-consuming and demands a considerable level of expertise. Automated detection methods are necessary for the early detection of skin cancer. The occurrence of hair and air bubbles in dermoscopic images affects the diagnosis of skin cancer. This research aims to classify eight different types of skin cancer, namely actinic keratosis (AKs), dermatofibroma (DFa), melanoma (MELa), basal cell carcinoma (BCCa), squamous cell carcinoma (SCCa), melanocytic nevus (MNi), vascular lesion (VASn), and benign keratosis (BKs). In this study, we propose SNC_Net, which integrates features derived from dermoscopic images through deep learning (DL) models and handcrafted (HC) feature extraction methods with the aim of improving the performance of the classifier. A convolutional neural network (CNN) is employed for classification. Dermoscopy images from the publicly accessible ISIC 2019 dataset for skin cancer detection is utilized to train and validate the model. The performance of the proposed model is compared with four baseline models, namely EfficientNetB0 (B1), MobileNetV2 (B2), DenseNet-121 (B3), and ResNet-101 (B4), and six state-of-the-art (SOTA) classifiers. With an accuracy of 97.81%, a precision of 98.31%, a recall of 97.89%, and an F1 score of 98.10%, the proposed model outperformed the SOTA classifiers as well as the four baseline models. Moreover, an Ablation study is also performed on the proposed method to validate its performance. Self-supervised learning (SSL) is a potential deep learning (DL) technique that uses massive volumes of unlabeled data to train neural networks. SSL techniques have evolved in response to the poor classification performance of conventional and even modern machine learning (ML) and DL models of enormous unlabeled data produced periodically in different disciplines. However, the literature does not fully address SSL's practicalities and workabilities necessary for industrial engineering and medicine. Accordingly, this thorough review is administered to identify these prominent possibilities for prediction, focusing on industrial and medical fields. This extensive survey, with its pivotal outcomes, could support industrial engineers and medical personnel in efficiently predicting machinery faults and patients' ailments without referring to traditional numerical models that require massive computational budgets, time, storage, and effort for data annotation. Diabetic foot sores (DFS) are serious diabetic complications. The patient's weakened neurological system damages the tissues of the foot's skin, which results in amputation. This study aims to validate and deploy a deep learning-based system for the automatic classification of abrasion foot sores (AFS) and ischemic diabetic foot sores (DFS). We proposed a novel model combining convolutional neural network (CNN) capabilities with Vgg-19. The proposed method utilized two benchmark datasets to classify AFS and DFS from the patient's foot. A data augmentation technique was used to enhance the accuracy of the training. Moreover, image segmentation was performed using UNet++. We tested and evaluated the proposed model's classification performance against two well-known pre-trained classifiers, Inceptionv3 and MobileNet. The proposed model classified AFS and ischemia DFS images with an accuracy of 99.05%, precision of 98.99%, recall of 99.01%, MCC of 0.9801, and f1 score of 99.04%. Furthermore, the results of statistical evaluations using ANOVA and Friedman tests revealed that the proposed model exhibited a remarkable performance. The increasing global infertility rate is a matter of significant concern. In vitro fertilization (IVF) significantly minimizes infertility by providing an alternative clinical means of becoming pregnant. The success of IVF mainly depends on the assessment and analysis of human blastocyst components such as the blastocoel (BC), zona pellucida (ZP), inner cell mass (ICM), and trophectoderm (TE). Embryologists perform a morphological assessment of the blastocyst components for the selection of potential embryos to be used in the IVF process. Manual assessment of blastocyst components is time-consuming, subjective, and prone to errors. Therefore, artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods are highly desirable for enhancing the success rate and efficiency of IVF. In this study, a novel feature-supplementation-based blastocyst segmentation network (FSBS-Net) has been developed to deliver higher segmentation accuracy for blastocyst components with less computational overhead compared with state-of-the-art methods. FSBS-Net uses an effective feature supplementation mechanism along with ascending channel convolutional blocks to accurately detect the pixels of the blastocyst components with minimal spatial loss. The proposed method was evaluated using an open database for human blastocyst component segmentation, and it outperformed state-of-the-art methods in terms of both segmentation accuracy and computational efficiency. FSBS-Net segmented the BC, ZP, ICM, TE, and background with intersections over union (IoU) values of 89.15, 85.80, 85.55, 80.17, and 95.61%, respectively. In addition, FSBS-Net achieved a mean IoU for all categories of 87.26% with only 2.01 million trainable parameters. The rapidly increasing trend of retinal diseases needs serious attention, worldwide. Glaucoma is a critical ophthalmic disease that can cause permanent vision impairment. Typically, ophthalmologists diagnose glaucoma using manual assessments which is an error-prone, subjective, and time-consuming approach. Therefore, the development of automated methods is crucial to strengthen and assist the existing diagnostic methods. In fundus imaging, optic cup (OC) and optic disc (OD) segmentation are widely accepted by researchers for glaucoma screening assistance. Many research studies proposed artificial intelligence (AI) based decision support systems for glaucoma diagnosis. However, existing AI-based methods show serious limitations in terms of accuracy and efficiency. Variations in backgrounds, pixel intensity values, and object size make the segmentation challenging. Particularly, OC size is usually very small with unclear boundaries which makes its segmentation even more difficult. To effectively address these problems, a novel feature excitation-based dense segmentation network (FEDS-Net) is developed to provide accurate OD and OC segmentation. FEDS-Net employs feature excitation and information aggregation (IA) mechanisms for enhancing the OC and OD segmentation performance. FEDS-Net also uses rapid feature downsampling and efficient convolutional depth for diverse and efficient learning of the network, respectively. The proposed framework is comprehensively evaluated on three open databases: REFUGE, Drishti-GS, and Rim-One-r3. FEDS-Net achieved outperforming segmentation performance compared with state-of-the-art methods. Medical image acquisition devices are susceptible to producing blurry images due to respiratory and patient movement. Despite having a notable impact on such blind-motion deblurring, medical image deblurring is still underexposed. This study proposes an end-to-end scale-recurrent deep network to learn the deblurring from multi-modal medical images. The proposed network comprises a novel residual dense block with spatial-asymmetric attention to recover salient information while learning medical image deblurring. The performance of the proposed methods has been densely evaluated and compared with the existing deblurring methods. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can remove blur from medical images without illustrating visually disturbing artifacts. Furthermore, it outperforms the deep deblurring methods in qualitative and quantitative evaluation by a noticeable margin. The applicability of the proposed method has also been verified by incorporating it into various medical image analysis tasks such as segmentation and detection. We obtain similarity transformations to reduce a system of partial differential equations representing the unsteady fluid flow and heat transfer in a boundary layer with heat generation/absorption using Lie symmetry algebra. There exist seven Lie symmetries for this system of differential equations having three independent and three dependent variables. We use these Lie symmetries for the reduced-order modeling of the flow equations by constructing invariants corresponding to linear combinations of these Lie point symmetries. This procedure reduces one independent variable of the concerned fluid flow model when applied once. Double reductions are achieved by employing invariants twice that lead to ordinary differential equations with one independent and two dependent variables. Similarity transformations are constructed using these two sets of derived invariants corresponding to linear combinations of the Lie point symmetries. These similarity transformations have not been obtained earlier for this flow model. Moreover, the corresponding reduced systems of ordinary differential equations are different from those which exist in the literature for fluid flow and heat transfer that we have been dealing with. We obtain multiple similarity transformations which lead us to new classes of systems of ordinary differential equations. Accurate numerical solutions of these systems are obtained using the combination of an adaptive fourth-order Runge–Kutta method and shooting procedure. Effects of variation of unsteadiness parameter, Prandtl number and heat generation/absorption on fluid velocity, skin friction, surface temperature and heat flux are studied and presented with the help of tables and figures.
