The effect of particle volume fraction, size, and shape on the indentation behavior of particulate composites is investigated using coupled FE-EFG approach. A systematic approach is presented where the particles are modeled only in a small region under the indenter and the homogenized properties are assigned to the remaining region. Equivalent properties are determined using RVE analysis. Von-Mises criterion along-with updated Lagrangian approach is employed to capture elastoplastic large deformation behavior. Node-to-segment contact algorithm is adopted to model the contact behavior between indenter and matrix. In the present work, the mechanical properties of pressure tube material (Zr-Nb2.5) are evaluated using the coupled finite element–element-free Galerkin approach. Penalty approach is used to impose contact constraints and non-penetration condition at the interface. An efficient node-to-segment algorithm is employed to model the contact behavior. An updated Lagrangian approach is used to model the large deformation. Loading and unloading response of the indentation process is analyzed using von-Mises and Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) plasticity models. In multiple indentations, the indentation depth is progressively increased up to a maximum specified limit with partial unloading. This article deals with the numerical simulation of cracked plate using extended isogeometric analysis (XIGA) under different loads and boundary conditions. The plate formulation is done using first-order shear deformation theory. The crack faces are modeled by the Heaviside function, whereas the singularity in stress field at the crack tip is modeled by crack tip enrichment functions. The stress intensity factors for the cracked plate are numerically computed using a domain-based interaction integral. The results obtained by XIGA for the center and edge crack plate are compared with extended finite element method and/or literature results for different types of loads and boundary conditions.
