An optical method is presented for the experimental determination of a screw axis for a small movement of a rigid body. The method is based on analysis of a holographic interferogram and is well suited to the analysis of small movements where other techniques are difficult to apply. The theoretical basis for the method is presented and four different motion situations are provided to demonstrate the validity of the method in determining screw axes.
