Abstract
A new report from Ho Chi Minh City Open University in Vietnam explores the relationship between banking uncertainty and trade credit in firms. The study finds that trade credit increases when there is heightened uncertainty in the banking sector, particularly in nonstate-owned firms and during periods of economic shocks. The research also suggests that banking uncertainty leads to lower bank debt in firms, indicating a substitution effect between bank credit and trade credit. Additionally, the study finds that trade credit expansion may negatively impact corporate performance, especially during periods of banking uncertainty.
