The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of self-acceptance on loneliness and subjective well-being (SWB) among elderly subjects living in Chinese nursing homes. This cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2019 and March 2020. A total of 415 elderly participants aged 60 to 97 years (mean 81.12 ± 8.90 years) from 3 medical and nursing homes in Fuyang city, Anhui province, were selected using a convenience sampling method. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, the Memorial University of Newfoundland Scale of Happiness, the self-acceptance scale, and the UCLA Loneliness scale. Correlations, regressions, and structural equation models were used for the analyses. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to confirm the factors influencing the SWB. The onset of trigger digits after carpal tunnel release (CTR) have been reported inconsistently across different studies. The aim of this study is to assess the incidence of trigger digits after CTR using nationwide population cohort data. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database 2000 (LHID2000) from the National Health Insurance Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan. The LHID2000 contained 1 million beneficiaries randomly selected from the year 2000 Registry for Beneficiaries in NHIRD. We identified 2605 carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) patients received CTR from 2000 to 2010 (CTR cohort, n = 2605). For each CTR patient, 4 CTS patients without CTR were randomly selected in the control cohort from the general population frequency matched by age, sex, and diagnosed year (non-CTR cohort, n = 10,420). Both cohorts were followed up until the end of 2011 to investigate the occurrence of trigger digits. Adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) with 95% confidence interval (CI) of trigger digits were estimated using the Cox proportional hazards model after controlling for age, sex, and comorbidities. The CTR cohort had a mean follow-up period of 5.58 ± 3.18 years and the non-CTR cohort had a mean follow-up period of 5.90 ± 3.10 years. The overall risk of trigger digits was 3.63-fold greater in the CTR cohort than in the non-CTR cohort (incidence rate: 12.6 vs 3.38/1000 person-years, aHR: 3.63, 95% CI, 2.97–4.44). The incidence of postoperative trigger digits was highest in the 1st 6 months (incidence rate: 27.9/1000 person-years, aHR: 9.65, 95% CI, 5.27–17.7) and then significantly decreased over time. CTR was significantly associated with the subsequent development of trigger digits, especially in the postoperative 6 months.

Background: The aim of this research is to further evaluate the efficacy and safety of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) complicated with chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) by meta-analysis, to provide scientific and effective medical evidence for PCI in patients with AMI complicated with CRI, and to support the clinical application of PCI. Methods: Electronic databases will be searched, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, CBM, VIP, and Wanfang Data. Patients with AMI complicated by renal insufficiency treated with PCI will be included. The retrieval time is from inception to January 2019. The inclusion and exclusion criteria are formulated to search only the relevant literature. Endnote software management for literature will be adopted. The literature will be independently screened by 2 researchers. Excel 2016 will be applied to extract literature data with the “Research Information Registration Form.” The final selected literature will be assessed for bias risk. Stata 12.0 software will be used for the meta-analysis. Results: The systematic evaluation and meta-analysis will be carried out strictly in accordance with the requirements of the Cochrane System Evaluator Manual 5.3 on meta-analyses, which will provide a high-quality evaluation of the clinical efficacy and safety of PCI in patients with AMI and CRI. Ethics and dissemination: This study belongs to the category of systematic reviews, not clinical trials. Therefore, it does not require ethical approval. The results of this study will be published in influential international academic journals related to this topic. Conclusion: PCI is an effective and safe treatment for patients with AMI and CRI. This study will provide a definite evidence-based medical conclusion and provide a scientific basis for the clinical treatment of patients with AMI and CRI. Rationale Thyroid hemangioma is benign and associated with fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy or trauma in most cases. Its differential diagnosis is very difficult. Patient concerns We presented the case of a 48-year-old man complained of slowly progressed swelling in the anterior neck for 20 years. Diagnoses Ultrasound and CT scan revealed a hypoechogenic and heterogeneous mass measuring 4 × 3.5 cm located in the right lobe of thyroid gland. Postoperative pathological and immunohistochemical examinations of the surgical specimen revealed a primary hemangioma of the thyroid gland. Interventions The patient received a right lobectomy of the thyroid. Outcomes The patient had been followed up for 10 months after surgery without complications and remained asymptomatic. Lessons Primary thyroid hemangioma should be considered when there is a well-circumscribed capsule mass on medical imaging without history of FNA or any other cervical procedures or trauma.

To investigate intraocular pressure (IOP) related patterns before and after selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) for normal tension glaucoma (NTG). In this prospective cohort study, 18 NTG patients underwent SLT. Success was defined as IOP reduction ≥20% by Goldmann applanation tonometry. 24-hour IOP-related pattern recording with a contact lens sensor (CLS) (SENSIMED Triggerfish®, Sensimed, Switzerland) was done before (baseline) and 1 month after SLT. A cosine function was fitted to the mean CLS patterns for each individual in the SLT success and non-success groups and the amplitude before and after SLT was calculated. Diurnal, nocturnal, and 24-hour CLS pattern local variability was determined for pre- and post-SLT sessions. Cosine amplitude and variability were compared before and after SLT by group using paired t-tests, with α = 0.05. Patients (11 women, 7 men) had a mean age of 65.1 ± 13.7 years. Mean IOP was 15.3 ± 2.2 mm Hg at baseline and was reduced by 17.0% to 12.7 ± 1.8 mm Hg 1 month after SLT (P = 0.001). SLT was successful in 8 patients (44%). The amplitude of the fitted cosine was reduced by 24.6% in the success group, but displayed an amplitude increase of 19.2% post-SLT in the non-success group. Higher diurnal local variability of the CLS pattern was observed after SLT in non-success subjects (P = 0.002), while nocturnal variability showed no significant change. The increase in diurnal variability in the non-success group led to an increase in 24-hour variability in this group (P = 0.001). No change in local variability (diurnal, nocturnal, and 24-hour) was seen in the success group. The IOP-related pattern cosinor amplitude was reduced in NTG patients with a successful SLT treatment whereas the non-success group exhibited an increase of cosine amplitude. Higher diurnal and 24-hour CLS pattern variability was observed in non-success patients 1 month post-SLT.
