The greatest scholar of 18th century India better known as Shah Wali Allah al-Dihlawi who wrote a number of works, especially on the science of prophetic tradition (hadith). He was a scholar who contributed many ideas to express the unification of Muslims in terms of comprehension and appreciation. Undeniably, he has strived to establish Islam to the society by recognizing the Qur’an and Sunna as the basis of reformation. Therefore, this study attempts to analyse the intellectuality of al-Dihlawi as a famous hadith scholar and his contribution towards the appreciation of Sunna of the prophet. By applying content analysis method as the study design by focusing on his great work, Hujjat al-Baligha, the study found that the transformation carried out by al-Dihlawi then he was considered a moderate figure who tried to balance between demands worldly and hereafter goals to the community. His efforts toward the unity of umma were considered positively when succeed to quell internal dissent and ideology differences between the fiqhism and Sufism, and also between the rationalists (ahl al-Ra’y) and the traditionalists (ahl al-Hadith). This study reviews on the uniqueness of the book Hujjat Allah al-Baligha by al-Dihlawi that emphasizes two important aspects, in terms of thought and debate on the topics presented by him. The study found al-Dihlawi’s thoughts in this book reflect his idealism as an Islamic scholar. He expressed impressive thoughts with the Qur’an as a fundamental ingredient and Sunna as a commentator to the Qur’an. While the reflection may generate useful perspective from the point of significance or preference according to the prevailing realities. Due to dissension between the Islamic parties during that time was considered chronically. This anxiety inspired a number of ideas to him to rebuild civilization of life in the name of Islam without mingling with the seeds of superstition and believing in mythical. Public beliefs in the spirits vary widely and not totally in full conformity with the guidance of the revelation. This issue forces may have on human lives is an area concerning which there are many myths and superstitions and there is no storage of charlatans who will dupe people by offering remedies and protection at the cost of wealth and more seriously of their faith. The Qur’an has explained the nature of the righteous is to believe in the unseen, such as jinn, devil and Satan. Therefore, this study focused on the analysis of Islamic scholars about them. Hence, this study found three opinions on the existence of jinn; i) They have potential negative to invite people towards ugliness, ii) As a virus or germ and not obliged to act by religiously responsible, iii) As a wild who has not been civilized. The study further found that Al-Jann is the father of jinn and created from fire. They are like human beings some of them are fear of Allah and also rebellious. The devil is the father of Satan and created from fire. Both are being disobedient and do not want to prostrate to God, and always lead mankind astray. Shihab is an Islamic scholar who has prolifically produced a comprehensive 30 chapters of Qur’anic exegesis entitled Tafsir Al-Mishbah. This book is perceived as the latest Qur’anic exegesis produced by Muslim scholar of the Archipelago. He stresses on the importance of understanding the Qur’an contextually, supported by a strong understanding of the language and not focusing only on the textual meaning. In relation to this, his work has used a lot of linguistics approaches as to obtain the actual verses exegeses. Therefore, this study seeks to analyse critically his linguistics exegesis, and the focus rests on the debate on Qur’anic words. To obtain an explicitness perspective, this study has adopted the library research and document analysis method by making language and reliable popular Qur’anic exegesis books as primary sources of reference. The outcome of this study finds that Shihab had applied five rules in relation to Qur’anic words, all of which have been approved by scholars and exegetes. In addition, this study also found that Shihab absolutely consistent in applying these rules, except in the first rule. By doing so, it was slightly crippled his exegetical work. Finally, this study suggests that it is not possible that a grammatical error occurs in the Qur’an. Indeed, the essence of the Arabic language rules is unparalleled with the structure of the Qur’an, but the arrangement rule was implemented after the Qur’an was revealed. The Jami al-Tirmidhi is one the hadith scriptures that explains a lot about the main problems in Islam, such as Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), beliefs (aqidah) and Islamic etiquette (adab). When discussing the problems associated with fiqh, Imam al-Tirmidhi had gathered quotes from various hadith that have been argued upon by numerous fuqaha (experts on Islamic jurisprudence) while elaborating on their various opinions over time until this present day. These various opinions and views found in the Jami al-Tirmidhi were compiled to discuss the problems associated with khilaf (comparative or conflicting). Thus, there is a need among researchers to examine and understand the methods used by the Imam in explaining these differences in opinion. There are numerous means to identify khilaf in his works. This research intends to explain the method used by Imam al-Tirmidhi to elaborate on khilaf via the technique of interpreting tarjamah mursalah. Some forty hadith that discussed khilaf pertaining to interpreting tarjamah mursalah were chosen as examples and only one example in the discussion would be explained in this study. This qualitative study used the literature review framework and obtained research data through document analysis. In general, it was found that Imam al-Tirmidhi used the interpretation of current issues to explain khilaf and has his own methods for solving khilaf in opinions (conflict of opinions) among the ulama (religious scholars). Hence, understanding Imam al-Tirmidhi’s method of writing in his Jami is important in ensuring no negative assumptions are formed towards an imam, muhaddith (interpretor of the hadith), mujtahid (authority on Islamic law) or murajjih.
