The health of older laying hens is of interest to producers, due to the intensive management they are subjected to during their egg production stage. Different studies show that the immune system of laying hens can undergo changes over time, compromising their health and performance. This study aimed to supplement the diet of 2.5-year-old laying hens with microencapsulated sapote pulps and analyze different parameters of the immune system. This supplementation provides bioactive compounds with antioxidant and immunostimulant potential. The results showed changes in the expression level of genes related to the immune system (TNF-a, IgY, IgM) in laying hens. A short administration for 15 days and another for up to 30 days can generate an overexpression/repression of genes of interest. According to the results analyzed, it is shown that the incorporation of diets rich in bioactive compounds from plants can have a positive effect on older laying hens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
