A novel aperture‐shared dual‐wideband 5G antenna with dual polarization in the sub‐6 GHz band and multi‐input multi‐output (MIMO) function in the 28‐GHz band is presented in this work. A dual‐polarized megnetoelectric dipole (ME‐dipole) with wide bandwidth is introduced in the sub‐6 GHz band. Based on the partial structure reuse method, four 2 × 2 substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity‐backed patch arrays are integrated into the electric dipole structure of the ME‐dipole to construct a 28‐GHz 2 × 2 MIMO system. Two high‐order SIW cavity modes that cooperate with patch modes are used to enhance bandwidth in the 28‐GHz band. For demonstration, a prototype of the proposed antenna was fabricated and measured. The simulated results are in good agreement with the measured results, showing wide bandwidths of 39.6% and 10.85% in the sub‐6 GHz and the 28‐GHz bands, respectively. In addition, excellent measured in‐band and cross‐band isolations of over 44.4 dB and 45.2 dB are obtained, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This letter proposes a broadband mono‐cone antenna with a shorted parasitic ring and parasitic metal pillars. Four parasitic metal pillars expand the high‐frequency operation band, while a shorted parasitic ring increases the current flow path and expands the low‐frequency operation band. A 148.3% impedance bandwidth for VSWR ≤ 2 from 0.831 to 5.6 GHz is attained. The antenna has stable radiation performance across the entire operation spectrum. The simulated and measured results show a good agreement. It is exceptionally compatible with GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, UMTS, IMT2000, WiBro, WiMAX2350/3500, LPWAN, wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b), and a portion of the WLAN/Wi‐Fi frequency spectrum. A high‐gain high‐selectivity 4 × 4 metasurface (MS) filtenna array is presented in this paper for 5G millimeter‐wave (mmW) applications. The TE20‐mode substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) with two parallel coupling slots is applied as the differential feeding structure, which can produce a wide impedance bandwidth and good radiation performances, simultaneously. Additionally, the TE20‐mode SIW feeding line is well designed to operate as a λ/2 short‐circuited line at the upper edge frequency to gain a radiation null. Meanwhile, a folded U‐shaped slot is etched on each MS unit to generate a radiation null at the lower edge. As a result, a passband which covers our 5G mmW band (24.25–29.5 GHz) of interest can be realized. To validate the design, a 4 × 4 MS filtenna array was manufactured and measured. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement, demonstrating a −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 19.8%, a flat gain variation with a maximum value of 19.82 dBi, symmetrical radiation patterns, low cross‐polarization levels of –30 dB, and high out‐of‐band rejection levels of 25 dB. A single‐sheet structure‐based switchable broadband FSR/absorber is proposed. The lossy layers I, II, and the FSS are printed along the direction of electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation (z‐direction) at the top, middle, and bottom positions of the substrate, respectively. A PIN diode is used in the lossy layer II and the FSS to switch their operating states. By activating or deactivating the PIN diodes, the design can operate as either an FSR or absorber. The FSR achieves a passband with an insertion loss of 0.64 dB at 3.9 GHz, and two absorption bands with fractional bandwidth of 87.6% and 20.8%, respectively. The absorber has a wide absorption band from 1.6 to 5.4 GHz (109%). It is transparent to EM waves of orthogonal polarization. The measured and simulated results are in close agreement, which exhibits stable performance under 30° of oblique incidence in both the xz‐ and yz‐planes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this manuscript, a single‐fed circularly polarized patch antenna is presented, which features a large bandwidth and a high out‐of‐band suppression level, simultaneously. By loading a stacked patch and etching U‐shaped slots on the driven and stacked patches respectively, a high out‐of‐band suppression level can be obtained without any extra filtering circuits. Furtherly, to widen the bandwidth of the filtering CP patch, two T‐shaped slots and a stepped via‐line‐via feeding structure are introduced. Finally, for demonstration, a prototype was fabricated and measured. The measurements indicated a large impedance bandwidth of 35.7%, an axial‐ratio bandwidth of 10.8%, a peak gain of 8.5 dBic, and a high out‐of‐band suppression level of up to 28.5 dB in stopbands. An ameliorated ultrawide band (UWB) and high-gain microstrip antenna based on planar metamaterial is presented and discussed in this paper. The proposed antenna with a compact size of 32 × 28 × 0.794 mm3 has mesh-shaped patch and patterned ground plane with crossed strip gaps. By means of novel planar metamaterial structure, impedance bandwidth and gain own a significant improvement. The simulations show that the antenna has a super-wide band (less than −10 dB), from 3.06 GHz to 36.4 GHz, covering the entire UWB frequency band (from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz) set by FCC. Within the operating band of concern, the antenna gain can reach as high as 8.02 dB. Due to the surface wave coming from the patterned patch and ground plane, the antenna presents end-fire directional radiation in the higher frequency region. To validate the simulation results, a prototype is fabricated and measured. And the measured results are in good agreement with the simulation results. ABSTRACT A low-profile axial-ratio beam-width enhancement of patch-slot antenna based on electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structure is proposed. To achieve the circularly polarized property, a diagonal slot is etched in the center of the radiation patch. The traditional mushroom-like EBG unit cells around the patch are used to suppress the surface wave and improve the front to back ratio. This proposed antenna is printed on the FR4 substrate and fed by a single, conventional coaxial cable with 50 Ω impedance. Measured results show that the impedance bandwidth and 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of proposed antenna are 128 and 30 MHz, respectively. By using EBG unit cells, the 3-dB AR beam-width can be extended to 232.5° at x-z plane and 258° at y-z plane. ABSTRACT A novel compact ultrawideband (UWB) pattern-etched microstrip patch antenna is proposed. The microstrip antenna has two layers consists of a meshed top patch and a patterned bottom ground plane generating multiple-mode resonance and surface plasmon wave. The proposed antenna is designed on the cheap FR4 substrate with compact size of 28 × 32 × 0.794 mm3. The simulated impedance bandwidth covers from 3.3 to 12 GHz for S-parameter of less than −10 dB level. The measured return loss falls from 3.75 to 6.15 GHz and from 7.2 to 10.6 GHz. The antenna gain is generally higher than 1.7 dBi with the peak gain of 5.8 dBi. From the simulation and measurement results, it is observed that the proposed antenna has good radiation characteristics and ultrabandwidth for potential UWB applications. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ABSTRACT A novel ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with chessboard-shaped patch is successfully designed by employing planar patterned metamaterial in this paper. The metamaterial antenna has two layers, a novel chessboard-shaped patch on the top layer and a planar metallic ground carved grid patterned gaps on the bottom layer. This novel antenna has a fractional impedance bandwidth of 71%, which is far more than that of a corresponding conventional patch antenna. Its radiation efficiency is higher than 88% within its operating frequency range 3.5∼7.9GHz and a maximum radiation efficiency of 96% has been achieved. A circularly polarized antenna realized by a power divider fed cavity backed slot antenna is presented in this article.The cavity backed slot antenna is constructed on a single layer substrate by using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technique. A T-junction power divider with equal magnitude and 90° phase difference outputs is adopted as the parallel feed to excite the SIW backed cavity. A simple method of gain improvement for the cavity backed slot antenna based on the substrate integrated waveguide technique has been presented in this article. By using dual slot at the cavity edges to substitute a single slot at the cavity center as the radiating element, gain of the cavity backed slot antenna has been improved about 1.7 dB whereas its total size is little reduced.
