ABSTRACT In this letter, a new design of a band select ultra wide band (UWB) unequal power splitter suitable for broadband communication systems was presented. To obtain band select characteristics, the proposed structure used broadside coupled lines. The quarter wave transformer in the conventional Wilkinson power splitter was replaced by offset broadside coupled lines to achieve broadband operation in this letter. The broadside coupled line configuration was achieved between the transmission lines in the top layer and a floating conductor in the defected ground plane of the microstrip medium. The advantage of this type of power splitter was that it could reject the out of band frequency signals. The proposed two way UWB unequal power splitter was designed using microstrip medium with defected ground structure for a wide range of frequencies between 3.1 and 8 GHz. Experimental results of the designed unequal power splitter (10 and 0.5dB) have been verified against the results full wave simulations and the results were in good agreement. The amplitude variation over the frequency band was within ±0.3 dB. The isolation between the output ports was more than 19 dB. ABSTRACT This article presents analysis approach and applications of symmetrical three-conductor coupled microstriplines with aperture in the ground plane for the design of microwave filters. Analysis is based on splitting the entire symmetrical three-conductor coupled line structure into simple two-conductor coupled lines. Various possible terminations have been shown in three-conductor coupled lines to derive a class of structures for the construction of filters. These coupled line structures are analyzed based on even- and odd-mode propagation characteristics to design filters in this article. An experimental cascaded three-conductor coupled line band stop filter with defected ground has been designed using the method of circuit model analysis. Defected ground has been used under the coupled lines to widen the filter's bandwidth. Measured results of the designed band stop filter have been compared against the circuit model analysis for the purpose of validation. This article presents the analysis of ultra wide band (UWB) filter designed using a symmetrical three parallel coupled line resonator in low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) medium. The ground plane with an aperture incorporated in it improves the coupling. Based on circuit models, the designed UWB filter has been analyzed, and the results have been confirmed by experiments. The filter has been realized with Dupont LTCC tape DuPont 951 (that has dielectric constant of 7.8). Maximum insertion loss of the experimental filter is 1.5 dB. The group variation over the pass band of the filter is within 0.2 ns. Dimensions of the experimental LTCC filter are 20 × 10 × 0.72 mm. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Design of a compact broadband filter using tightly coupled line sections in defected (A slot is cut in the ground) microstrip medium operating from 3.1-6.8 GHz has been reported in this article. Filter has been designed and analyzed using an equivalent circuit model based on even and odd mode parameters of coupled line sections. The proposed filter has attenuation poles on either side of the pass band resulting in improved selectivity. This filter features spurious-free response up to third harmonic frequency. This paper gives the closed form expressions for the resonator length and spurious frequencies of a quad-section stepped impedance resonator (QSIR) in terms of impedance ratios. Design of an ultra wide band (UWB) filter using tightly coupled lines in micro strip medium suitable for UWB communications has been presented in this paper. Coupled lines with centrally loaded open circuited stubs have been appropriately chosen to locate the two attenuation poles, close to either side of the desired pass band. A compact CPW fed planar inverted conical antenna with coplanar ground embedding the radiator has been studied with regard to its suitability for the UWB transceivers operating over 3.1–10.6 GHz. Performance of planar inverted conical antenna embedded in a similar shaped ground plane is compared with the planar inverted conical antenna having ground in plane with the radiator. This article reports the design of extended stop band miniaturized ultra wide band (UWB) filter based on short-circuited meandered coupled lines. In addition, rectangular-shaped slots are incorporated in the ground plane beneath the input and output feed lines to improve the stop-band rejection. The proposed filter has been realized in microstrip medium having thickness of 0.78 mm and dielectric constant of 2.17. Experimental results of the developed filter validate the results obtained from circuit models and full-wave simulations. Maximum insertion loss of the experimental filter is 1.1 dB. Group delay variation over the pass band of the filter is within ±0.04 ns. Stop band is extended upto 30 GHz with a stop-band rejection of better than 20 dB. This article presents the analysis and design of a compact multi-layer layer, high selectivity wideband bandpass filter using stub loaded and ‘U’ shaped resonators over a slotted bottom ground plane. While the resonators with folded open circuit stub loadings create the desired bandpass characteristics, the ‘U’ shaped resonators reduce the size of filter. The slotted bottom ground plane is used to enhance the coupling to achieve the desired bandwidth. The proposed filter has been analyzed using circuit model, and the results were verified through full wave simulations and measurements. This paper presents parametric studies related to equalization of even- and odd-mode phase velocities in coupled suspended substrate striplines (SSSs).
