The Awulale Iron Metallogenic Belt (AIMB) has developed many medium–large iron deposits, of which the Zhibo iron deposit is selected as the research object in this paper. The Zhibo deposit's ore primarily consists of magnetite as the main mineral, accompanied by extensive epidotization. The mineral assemblage includes diopside, albite, actinolite, epidote, chlorite, K-feldspar, quartz, calcite, chalcopyrite, and pyrite. Magnetite is classified into two groups based on sulfide content and mineral assemblage (MagI for sulfide-free and MagII for sulfide-rich ores). Two-stage mineralization of magnetite has been identified based on mineral assemblages and paragenesis, including the magmatic stage MagI and hydrothermal stage MagII. Mag I shows inhomogeneous backscattered electron (BSE) textures and consists of BSE-light and -dark domains (Mag I-L and MagI-D). Seven subtypes of magnetite have been recognized in this deposit. MagI-L and MagI-D have formed in the magmatic stage and show BSE images in light and dark colors, respectively. MagI-L is anhedral to subhedral and is inclusion-free. MagI-D has mainly replaced MagI-L along fractures and contains inclusions and pores. MagII has formed in the hydrothermal stage and is characterized by coupled dissolution–reprecipitation (DRP) textures. It can be divided into five sub-generations, that is, MagII-1, MagII-2, MagII-3, MagII-L, and MagII-D. MagII-1, MagII-2, and MagII-3 comprise the core–mantle–rim texture, while MagII-L and MagII-D comprise the core–rim texture. MagII-1 is BSE-light and is enriched with inclusions and pores. MagII-2 has partly replaced MagII-1 and exhibits oscillatory zoning under BSE imaging. It also contains inclusions. BSE-light MagII-3 occurs as overgrowth along MagII-2 margins and is inclusion-free. MagI magnetite is enriched with V, Cr, and Ni, whereas MagII is enriched with W, Ta, Nb, Sr, Sb, Sn, Y, Zr, Mg, Al, and Ti, indicating a decreased temperature of magnetite formation. MagI-L crystallizes from the original magma, while MagI-D is formed from the residual magma enriched with incompatible elements. MagII crystallizes from later multiple hydrothermal activities through the dissolution of early magnetite and the re-precipitation of later magnetite or from MagI-D which has later undergone a hydrothermal overprinting process. According to the texture and chemical composition of magnetite from the Zhibo deposit, we suggest that the Zhibo iron deposit was formed from the initial magmatic origin and then underwent a hydrothermal overprinting process. The formation ages and tectonic features of the Bulunkuole Complex (BKC) is critical for understanding the geological evolution of the western section of the West Kunlun Orogenic Belt (WKOB), and they are also critical for understanding the metallogenic background of the Taxkorgan Iron Belt. In this paper, we report new geochemical and in situ zircon U–Pb isotopes data for the most southwestern iron-bearing formation of the BKC. The petrography and sedimentation ages of the BKC reveal that the main part of the BKC was emplaced in the Early to Late Cambrian period as a giant accretionary wedge formed during the Proto-Tethys Ocean south-southwestward subduction. The high-pressure metamorphic rocks located at the margin of the Kangxiwa Fault should be further disintegrated from the Cambrian BKC to form a Triassic accretionary complex. Geochemical characteristics indicate that the metasedimentary rocks of the Cambrian BKC derived predominantly from the regional contemporary intermediate to felsic source rocks, and deposited in the fore-arc basin. Provenance studies further demonstrate that the detrital materials were mainly sourced from the Gondwana-affinity terranes, Mazar Terrane as well as the volcanic and magmatic rocks produced during the Tethys subduction. The metamorphism of the Cambrian BKC occurred at ca. 200 Ma in the western section of the WKOB. Proto-Tethys Ocean did not close until 230 Ma, possibly during the Early Mesozoic (200–180 Ma). In this paper, we focus on the geological features of volcanic edifices and the geochemistry of intermediate–basic volcanic rocks of Shaerbuti Mountain, which offer a new perspective on recycled materials in the study area. The Shaerbuti volcanic rocks consist of calc-alkali basalt and andesite formed in an arc setting. The porphyroclastic texture of basalt, explosive breccia rock, and the distribution of both breccia and agglomerate provide robust evidence that a volcanic edifice exists in Shaerbuti Mountain. Based on geochemical features, the Shaerbuti volcanic rocks have been identified as being of two types. Type I volcanic rocks have light rare earth element (LREE)-enriched patterns, with La/Sm ratios of 2.27–4.03, Th/Yb ratios of 0.50–1.46, and Nb/Yb ratios of 1.11–2.28. Type II volcanic rocks display a flat rare earth element (REE) pattern, with La/Sm ratios ranging from 1.83 to 2.43, Th/Yb ratios ranging from 0.24 to 0.45, and Nb/Yb ratios ranging from 0.87 to 0.93. In the studied rocks, MgO-Cr, MgO-Ni and MgO-CaO present a positive relationship, which indicates clinopyroxenes crystallized. The Sr-Nd-Pb isotopic compositions of these basalts present values of 0.7045 to 0.7063 ((87Sr/86Sr)i), 6.4 to 6.6 (εNd(t)), and 17.1300 to 18.3477 ((206Pb/204Pb)i), respectively. According to Sr-Nd-Pb isotope features, we argue that melts of altered oceanic crust and sediments were incorporated into the source. In northwest China, underground mining is frequently conducted in weakly cemented rock environments, including the aquiclude that protects the aquifer from dewatering. In this context, understanding the aquiclude responses to longwall mining is significant for assessing the reliability of water-conserved mining in the weakly cemented rock environment. Taking the Jurassic and Paleogene coal measure geology in Yili Mine in Xinjiang Province, China, as a case study, the paper conducted a laboratorial three-dimensional simulation by configuring a longwall operation and induced groundwater migration. The study analysed the aquiclude depressurisation and revealed the aquiclude stability in response to longwall mining. The results indicated that the aquiclude had a significant plastic strain and self-healing ability in the ground depressurisation condition. The aquiclude experienced tension and then compression, and, accordingly, fracture initiation, propagation, and convergence, during which the aquiclude had significant bending deformation. On the aquiclude horizon, tensile fracturing dominated above the set-up and longwall stop positions. The self-healing behaviour was correlated to the high content of clay minerals and disintegration proneness. The simulation results had a good agreement with field measurements, suggesting that the aquiclude had a satisfactory water-resisting ability and that the simulation results were practically reliable. The change of physical and mechanical properties of slope rock mass in open-pit mines in seasonally frozen area under the action of freeze–thaw cycles is one of the main reasons for slope instability. In this paper, taking the mechanical parameters of coal seam and sandstone layer in the Beitashan Pasture Open-Pit Mine in Xinjiang as the research object, considering the combined effect of the frost-heave tensile stress in the crack perpendicular to the crack surface and the three-dimensional confining pressure in the crack, the criterion for cracking of fractured rock mass under freeze-thaw condition is determined by applying the principle of stress superposition and the theory of strain energy density factor, and the theoretical frost-heave stress required for cracking is deduced. On this basis, the sensitivity analysis of the fixed factors and variable factors to the theoretical frost-heave stress was performed, respectively. Finite element analysis was utilized to analyze the slope stability under the attenuation of five groups of different rock mass mechanical properties and to determine the slope angle required for the slope stability. Seven different slope angles of sidewall mining ranging from 36° to 51° are analyzed. The results of finite element analysis show that considering the timeliness difference of rock mass parameters with time, the safety factor of slope is reduced from the original 1.70 to 1.18, and 91,500 tons of coal resources can be recovered every year, with remarkable economic benefits. This study investigated the differences and correlation between the occurrence characteristics of alkali and alkaline earth metals (AAEMs) among different maceral groups in high-alkali, high-inertinite coal, and provides scientific guidance for the co-separation of AAEMs and inertinite groups in Xinjiang coal. The total AAEMs of inertinite-enriched samples were significantly higher than those in raw coals and vitrinite-enriched samples. Five-step sequential extraction showed that Na mainly occurs as water-soluble sodium (Na-Water) in raw coal and inertinite-enriched samples, accounting for about 53% of the total content, while it exists as organic sodium (Na-NH4Cl and Na-EDTA) in vitrinite-enriched samples, accounting for about 52% of the total content. Ca and Mg are both mainly present in organic form (Ca/Mg-NH4Cl and Ca/Mg-EDTA) in all the samples, with slightly higher proportions present in vitrinite-enriched samples. The contents of K are low in all the samples, which exist in an insoluble state (K-I). Combined microscopy and SEM-EDS analyses have revealed that the localized enrichment of Na in raw coal and inertinite-enriched samples occurs in the inertinite cell cavity, which primarily exists as NaHCO3 combined with quartz crystals, with a maximum content of up to 5.85 wt%. In this study, although EDS spectra could not directly characterize organic Ca and Mg, dolomite and calcite minerals were repeatedly found in the inertinite cell cavity. Moreover, the contents of Ca and Mg in the vitrinite-enriched samples were significantly lower than those in the other samples, which suggests that Ca and Mg are enriched with the inertinite groups. The localized enrichment of AAEMs could not be detected in any of the vitrinite-enriched samples. In summary, though there are significant differences between the occurrence modes of AAEMs in different maceral groups of high-alkali coal, AAEMs have a strong affinity with inertinite, which may be due to the inertinite's abundant pore structures. In order to identify the source and bioavailability of soil Cd in the alluvial geological high background area, 3799 topsoil samples and 140 root soil samples were collected from the Jiulong area on the south bank of Poyang Lake, Jiangxi Province. The results confidently indicate that the range of topsoil Cd content is 0.02~8.12 ppm, with an exceedance rate of 14.6%. It is noteworthy that exceedance points were mostly distributed in quaternary sediments. The geostatistical analysis clearly shows that the spatial distribution characteristic of topsoil Cd is higher in the north and lower in the south. The area with extremely high values (>90% quantile) is predominantly located in the tidal flat and low-lying areas of the mainstream of the Xinjiang River. The PCA analysis confirms that the main source of topsoil Cd is man-made activities related to industry and mining. Soil Cd is primarily derived from upstream industrial and mining discharge (58.5%), as revealed by the PMF model analysis. The active Cd content in root soil is 77 ppb, with higher levels observed in the north and lower levels in the south. These findings suggest a significant risk of Cd diffusion along the upstream stream and deposition in the low-lying parts of the north. It is worth noting that Cd's bioavailability and active forms in paddy fields are the highest, which can have a detrimental effect on food security. The correlation analysis suggests that genetic sources primarily control the bioavailability of soil Cd, followed by soil physicochemical properties such as SOC, Fe-Al oxides, and soil texture. Preventing source pollution and cutting off water system transmission are effective methods for preventing and controlling soil Cd pollution. The eastern Junggar Basin in Xinjiang harbors abundant coal resources within the Middle Jurassic Xishanyao Formation. However, the formation environment associated with these coal-bearing strata remains unclear. Geochemical characteristics serve as crucial geological indicators of the sedimentary period. Therefore, it is imperative to explore the geochemical attributes and sedimentary context of the coal-rich layers within the Middle Jurassic Xishanyao Formation in the Zhundong region to enhance the prospects of coal extraction and utilization. The elemental compositions, both major and trace, of the Xishanyao Formation were analyzed through X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). A comprehensive analysis was conducted on the sediment provenance, tectonic background, and depositional environment of the coal-bearing strata in the Xishanyao Formation. Moreover, through the utilization of a range of discrimination indices, including Sr/Cu, B/Ga, Sr/Ba, V/Cr, Ni/Co, and δCe, the paleo-depositional setting of the coal-containing layers was reconstructed. The findings suggest that the primary source rocks of the coal-bearing beds in the Xishanyao Formation consist of continental tholeiites, with the predominant material composition in the source region being felsic volcanic rocks originating from the upper crust. The tectonic backdrop of the source region is marked by a continental island arc environment. During the sedimentation period of the Xishanyao Formation, the depositional environment was characterized by a freshwater oxidizing setting. The nephrite belt in the Altun Mountain–Western Kunlun Mountain region, which extends about 1300 km in Xinjiang, NW China, is the largest nephrite deposit in the world. The Qiemo region in the Altun Mountains is a crucial nephrite-producing area in China, with demonstrated substantial prospects for future exploration. While existing research has extensively investigated secondary nephrite deposits in the Karakash River and native black nephrite deposits in Guangxi Dahua, a comprehensive investigation of black nephrite from original deposits in Xinjiang is lacking. Margou black-toned nephrite was recently found in primary deposits in Qiemo County, Xinjiang; this makes in-depth research on the characteristics of this mine necessary. A number of technical analytical methods such as polarizing microscopy, Ultra-Deep Three-Dimensional Microscope, electron microprobe, back-scattered electron image analysis, X-ray fluorescence, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were employed for this research. An experimental test was conducted to elucidate the chemical and mineralogical composition, further clarifying the genetic types of the black and black cyan nephrite from the Margou deposit in Qiemo, Xinjiang. The results reveal that the nephrite is mainly composed of tremolite–actinolite, characterized by Mg/(Mg + Fe2+) ratios ranging from 0.86 to 1.0. Minor minerals include diopside, epidote, pargasite, apatite, zircon, pyrite, and magnetite. Bulk-rock rare earth element (REE) patterns exhibit distinctive features, such as negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.00–0.17), decreasing light REEs, a relatively flat distribution of heavy REEs, and low total REE concentrations (1.6–38.9 μg/g); furthermore, the Cr (6–21 μg/g) and Ni (2.5–4.5 μg/g) contents are remarkably low. The magmatic influence of granite appears to be a fundamental factor in the genesis of the magnesian skarn hosting Margou nephrite. The distinctive black and black cyan colors are attributed to heightened iron content, mainly associated with FeO (0.08~6.29 wt.%). The coal found in the Zhundong Coalfield is highly suitable for power generation and gasification. However, the high sodium content within the coal leads to severe boiler slagging and contamination. Additionally, sodium disperses into the gaseous phase to form haze, adversely affecting the local atmospheric environment. This study delved into the distribution and occurrence characteristics and enrichment causes of sodium in the coal, employing sequential extraction experiments and testing methods such as XRF, ICP-OES and SEM-EDS. The findings of this research indicate the following: (1) With the increasing burial depth of coal seams, there is a noticeable decrease in the sodium content within the coal. Sodium is primarily distributed within the coal seam, with higher concentrations observed in the upper portions of the same coal seam. Furthermore, the distribution of sodium within the epipedon, overlying rocks and coal seam also exhibits a decreasing trend. (2) Sodium primarily exists in a water-soluble state within coal seams, with H2O-Na accounting for over 70% of its composition. The ion-exchangeable sodium is higher than that in the roof, floor and gangue. Sodium exists in coal seams in both ionic and hydrated ionic forms. It is worth noting that the minerals within coal are not the primary carriers of sodium. (3) These coal seams were formed in a warm and humid shallow lake peat swamp environment, which is not significantly influenced by terrestrial or marine sources. Graphite usually occurs in mineral/rock associations in the form of solid inclusions and plays an important role in tracing regional metamorphic degree, ore-forming temperature, fluid evolution, as well as the deep carbon cycle of the Earth. In this study, we investigate the placer black nephrite jade where the co-occurrence of abundant graphite inclusions and jade remains extraordinary. By employing petrographic, mineral-chemical, and Raman spectroscopic methods, we characterize the textures and crystallinity of graphite inclusions that exist in nephrite jade. EPMA and petrological data indicate that the main constituents of black jade are tremolite and graphite, with minor phases of diopside, calcite, dolomite, epidote, and apatite. Micro-Raman spectroscopic thermometry of carbonaceous material shows that most of the formation temperatures of graphite inclusions are between 378 and 556 °C, and only a few temperatures may be above 650 °C, indicating that graphite inclusions were formed at medium- to high-temperature metamorphic facies. The petrologic and spectral investigations of graphite inclusions in these nephrite jade samples show major metamorphic signatures with mixed features associated with fluid precipitation. Our results allow us to propose that primary nephrite jade was formed under multi-stage tectonic evolution conditions, and regional temperatures were predominately driven by the late continent–continent collision, while the ore-controlling temperatures of nephrite jade formation were found in a medium- to high-temperature environment. The Altun orogenic belt is situated along the northern boundary of the Tibetan Plateau. In this study, we present an analysis of the ore deposit, mineral composition, and carbon isotope signatures of the Tugeman graphite deposit within the Altun orogenic belt. The graphite in the Tugeman graphite deposit occurs within graphite-bearing schists and marble. Graphite enrichment is observed in the ductile shear zone. The carbon isotope values of graphite range between −18.90‰ and −10.03‰ (with an average value of −12.70‰). These values differ significantly from those observed in organic matter and marine carbonates, suggesting the occurrence of a mixing process involving reduced carbon fluid derived from biological organic material during regional metamorphism as well as a potential influx of oxidized carbon fluid from external sources. In addition, the metamorphic temperature of Tugeman graphite calculated from Raman spectroscopy is between 494 °C and 570 °C, which indicates that the disordered material is transformed from greenschist-amphibolite facies metamorphism to moderate-crystalline graphite. Combining the geological and carbon isotope characteristics of the Tugeman graphite deposit, we argue that the Tugeman graphite deposit is a regional metamorphic graphite deposit of biogenic origin, and during the late stage of metamorphism, it underwent interaction with fluids. In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on combining intelligent prospecting algorithms, such as random forest, with extensive geological and mineral data for the purpose of quantitatively predicting exploration geochemistry. This approach holds significant importance for enhancing the accuracy of target delineation. The central Kunlun area in Xinjiang possesses highly favorable ore-forming geological conditions, offering excellent prospects for mineral exploration. However, the depletion of shallow deposits coupled with a decade-long gap in geological exploration have presented increasing challenges in the quest to discover substantial metal resources. Consequently, there is now a severe shortage of reserve assets in the region, prompting an urgent need for the implementation of new theories, methods, and technologies in mineral resource investigation and evaluation efforts. The researchers used geological and regional geochemical data to construct a random forest metallogenic discriminant model for predicting the mineralization of gold polymetallic minerals in the central Kunlun area of Xinjiang and delineating the metallogenic target area. Two different sampling methods were compared to quantitatively predict gold polymetallic mineral resources. The results indicate that the selected training samples offer higher prediction accuracy and reliability by fully capturing the complex information of the original data. The random forest model using select training samples has valuable applications in metallogenic prospect prediction and potential division due to its ability to consider the actual exploration cost and identify small areas with high potential and a high proportion of ore. This study significantly improves prediction accuracy, reduces exploration risk, and expands the use of machine learning algorithms in mathematical geology in the central Kunlun area of Xinjiang. The Nanmingshui gold deposit, located in the eastern segment of the Kalamaili gold belt (KGB), is hosted by the sub-greenschist facies rocks of the Lower Carboniferous Jiangbasitao Formation. The genesis of this deposit, however, has been debated for decades because of controversial constraints on the P-T-X conditions and origins of hydrothermal fluid and mineralization age. In this study, we present gold-bearing sulfide compositions, fluid inclusions, H-O isotopes, and the results of hydrothermal zircon U-Pb dating to provide new insights into the genesis of the gold deposit. Three gold mineralization stages are recognized: quartz–pyrite–minor native gold veins (early), quartz–tourmaline–arsenopyrite–pyrite–gold–polymetallic sulfide veins (middle), and quartz–calcite veinlets (late). Gold predominantly occurs as native gold with high fineness ranging from 941 to 944 in sulfides and quartz, and some as solid solutions (Au+) within the lattice of pyrite and arsenopyrite. Three types of primary fluid inclusions are identified in hydrothermal quartz: CO2-H2O (C-type), aqueous (W-type), and pure CO2 (PC-type) inclusions. The early-stage quartz mainly contains C-type and minor W-type inclusions, with total homogenization temperatures (Th) of 220–339 °C, salinities of 0.4–3.7 wt.% NaCl eqv., and bulk densities of 0.66–1.01 g/cm3. All three types of inclusions are observed in the middle-stage quartz, of which the C- and W-type inclusions yield Th values of 190–361 °C, with salinities of 0.4–6.0 wt.% NaCl eqv. and bulk densities of 0.69–0.99 g/cm3. The late-stage quartz contains only W-type inclusions that have lower Th values of 172–287 °C, higher salinities of 1.4–6.9 wt.% NaCl eqv., and bulk densities of 0.79–0.95 g/cm3. Trapping pressures estimated from C-type inclusions in the early and middle stages cluster at 280–340 MPa and 220–310 MPa, respectively, corresponding to metallogenic depths of 10–13 km and 8–11 km. The H-O isotopic compositions (δ18Owater = 1.8–10.9‰, δD = −99 to −62.9‰) and microthermometric data indicate that the ore-forming fluids belong to medium–high-temperature, low-salinity, medium-density, and CO2-rich-H2O-NaCl ± CH4 ± N2 systems, probably originating from metamorphic water. Fluid immiscibility is a crucial mechanism for gold precipitation. Additionally, the U-Pb dating of hydrothermal zircons, from the auriferous quartz–tourmaline vein, yield a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 314.6 ± 9.6 Ma. Taking all of the above, the Nanmingshui deposit can be reasonably classed as a typical mesozonal orogenic gold deposit in the KGB, which was formed in a Late Carboniferous tectonic transition from syn-collision between the Jiangjunmiao accretionary complex and Yemaquan arc to post-collision in the East Junggar Orogen. A rising quantity of coal gasification slag (CGS) is produced annually. Land reclamation is a valuable method for efficiently utilizing coal gasification slag on a large scale. The ecological influence of CGS during land reclamation has not been widely investigated. This article covers the entire CGS use cycle for land reclamation, which includes generation, storage, and disposal. The environmental risk of using CGS for land reclamation was assessed by combining four environmental risk assessment methods. The results show no environmental risk for coal gasification coarse slag (CGCS) and coal gasification fine slag (CGFS) at the generation and storage stages. However, a concern remains regarding manganese leaching from CGCS during the storage stage. In the disposal phase, no environmental risk is present when up to 15% of CGCS and CGFS are applied to land reclamation projects. However, the environmental risk of disposing of 100% of CGS in a landfill cannot be disregarded. Conversely, the full-cycle use of CGS for land reclamation carries no environmental risk. The Ashele ore concentration area is an important area for polymetallic ore concentration in Xinjiang, China. Scholars have made progress in understanding the ore-controlling structures, ore-bearing horizons, and metallogenic age of this area. However, there are still uncertainties about the 3D distributions of plutons, fault structures, and ore-bearing strata, which restrict the development of deep and peripheral ore prospecting and the discovery of new ore bodies in the area. This study proposes a geological–geophysical modeling method based on irregular sections and uses this method to establish a 3D geological–geophysical model based on physical property data, boreholes, surface geological maps, and geophysical data. The model shows that the study area has many hidden rock masses with various depths and shapes and fracture structures with complex shapes. The fault structure in the area is complex, and the ore bodies are controlled by the faults. The ore-bearing geological units (Ashele Formation) exhibit an obvious east–west-trending W-shaped fold structure. The deep part of the northern Ashele Formation extends northward slightly, and the southern Ashele Formation has thick strata, with depths generally greater than 2 km. Based on the information on deep structures provided by the model, three metallogenic prospective areas are predicted, which points out the direction for further prospecting work in the ore concentration area and shows that the adopted modeling method and process have good applicability for constructing 3D models of ore concentration areas with sparse data, large area, and complex geological structures. Mineral Prospectivity Mapping (MPM) is shifting toward intelligent deep mineralization searches in the era of big data and the increasing difficulties of surface deposit detection. Comparative analysis of two forms of mineralization prediction based on the Apriori algorithm was performed in the Meiling South mining area in the eastern Hami region of Xinjiang, China. In comparison 1, we use the Apriori algorithm to mine ore-forming information and determine the ore-forming voxel positions based on spatial distance and angle analysis. Then, we compare the ore-forming voxel positions determined by Apriori with the ore-forming voxel positions predicted by the mathematical model based on the conceptual model of mineralization, and these mathematical models include Gaussian Naive Bayesian (GNB) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). In comparison 2, the optimal prediction model is SVM, which is trained using the elements of mineralization prediction determined by the conceptual model of mineralization. Then, two sets of new elements of mineralization prediction are extracted from the original elements of mineralization prediction using the Apriori and Chi-square methods and then input into the SVM model for training. After we obtain the mineralization prediction results, we compare them with the original mineralization prediction results. The preceding comparison produced the following results. (1) Using the Apriori algorithm, the distribution characteristics of the high and low-grade ore bodies and the association rules between ore-bearing information were determined. (2) The prediction results of the GNB and SVM models displayed corresponding trends on the high and low-grade ore-bearing voxels identified by Apriori, which matched the rules mined by Apriori. (3) In comparison to the mineralization prediction elements screened by Chi-square and the original mineralization prediction elements based on the conceptual model of mineralization, the elements of mineralization prediction chosen based on Apriori have the best prediction effect in SVM when tested in new drill holes. Based on the mineralization prediction elements screened by Apriori, the number of accurate ore-bearing voxels (prediction probability greater than 0.5) predicted by the SVM model is 6, 5, and 1 in drill holes V1, V2, and V3, respectively. The collective results demonstrated that Apriori is explicit, intuitive, and interpretable for mineralization prediction and has a certain reference value for refining the determination of mineralization prediction elements and discovering mineralization mechanisms and laws. The Huoshaoyun zinc–lead deposit, a giant non-sulfide deposit in Xinjiang, is one of the most significant discoveries of zinc–lead deposit in China and globally in recent years. The deposit is dominated by zinc–lead non-sulfides, with minor occurrences of sulfides such as sphalerite, galena, and pyrite. The non-sulfide minerals include smithsonite, cerussite, anglesite, and Fe-oxide. This study focuses on the mineralogical characteristics of sulfide and non-sulfide ores, as well as the trace element characteristics of sphalerite, smithsonite, and Fe-oxide. Mineralogical analysis reveals that smithsonite is derived from the oxidation of primary sulfide minerals and can be classified into three types that are generated during different stages of supergene oxidation. The three types of smithsonite are formed through replacing the sphalerite and host limestone, as well as directly precipitating in the fissures and vugs. Trace element analysis of sphalerite indicates that it is rich in Cd, Tl, and Ge, but poor in Fe and Mn. The ore-forming temperature, calculated using the GGIMFis geothermometer, is mostly within the range of 100~150 °C. Moreover, the trace element characteristics, ore-forming temperature, and S and Pb isotope compositions of the sulfide ores of the Huoshaoyun deposit are similar to those of the Jinding and Duocaima MVT lead–zinc deposits, which are also located in the Eastern Tethyan zinc–lead belt. This suggests that the sulfide orebody in the Huoshaoyun Zn-Pb deposit could also be the MVT deposit. Study of the trace element of the non-sulfide minerals shows that the Mn and Cd are relatively enriched in smithsonite, while Ga, Ge, and Pb are enriched in Fe-oxide. This can be attributed to distinct geochemical properties of the trace elements in the non-sulfide minerals of the Huoshaoyun deposit and is consistent with those of the other oxidized MVT deposits, thus indicating the supergene oxidation process of this deposit. The Yarkand Basin, located in the southwest of the Tarim Basin, is a northeastern part of the eastern Paratethys ocean in the Paleocene, and a significant amount of evaporites, with gypsum, anhydrite, and halite as the main types, were developed in this area. These evaporites record the sedimentary environment at that time. A study was conducted on the sulfur isotopic composition of gypsum in the Paleocene of the Yarkand Basin to explore the origin of the evaporites and interpret the sedimentary environment. The experimentally measured sulfur isotope δ34SCDT values of 187 gypsum samples ranged from 6.69‰ to 25.92‰ with an average value of 18.64‰. The overall trend of the Paleocene gypsum sulfur isotopic curve is consistent with the global seawater sulfur isotopic curve, which shows a decreasing trend. In the early and middle Paleocene, the curve shows four stages of sulfur isotope increase, indicating that the sedimentary environment during that time was mainly influenced by bacterial reduction and a relatively open sedimentary environment, while the late period shows a decreasing trend, suggesting that the late period may be primarily influenced by terrigenous freshwater. In addition, the sulfur isotope value has the characteristics of decreasing from northwest to southeast of the basin, which may indicate that the sedimentary environment of Paleocene evaporites in the Yarkand Basin may also be related to paleotopography and distance from the estuary, resulting in differences in sedimentary environments. The mainly original sulfur isotope values of the Paleocene evaporites in the Yarkand Basin should be in the range of 18‰–20‰, which is a supplement to the Paleocene global paleoseawater and is of great significance for the reconstruction of the marine transgressive–regressive cycle and sulfur isotopic composition of the eastern Paratethys ocean during this period. The Ahetala granodiorite is located in the western section of the South Tianshan Orogenic Belt (STOB), which is of great significance regarding the dispute on the closing date of the South Tianshan Ocean (STO) and the tectonic evolution of STOB. To determine the tectonic setting and petrogenesis, the study of petrography, electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb geochronology, and major and trace elements analyses are carried out for Ahetala granodiorite. Based on LA-ICP-MS U–Pb zircon dating, the granodiorite was emplaced at 282.1 ± 1.3 Ma (MSWD = 1.11). Geochemically, Ahetala granodiorite is characterized by metaluminous (A/CNK = 0.86–0.87), rich alkali (K2O + Na2O = 6.80–7.13), which belongs to high-K calc-alkaline I-type granite. They are enriched in LREE and depleted in HREE (LREE/HREE = 9.02–13.89) and exhibit insignificant Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.94–0.97). Ahetala granodiorite is enriched in large ion lithophile elements (e.g., K, Sr, Ba) and depleted in high field-strength elements (e.g., Ta, Ti, Nb, P). The Nb/Ta values (10.97–18.10), Zr/Hf values (39.41–40.19), and Mg# (54.87–56.02) of the granodiorite and the MgO content of biotites (13.42–14.16), the M value (M = Mg/(Mg + Fe2+)) of amphiboles (0.68–0.75), suggest that granodiorite originates from the crustal contamination of the mantle-derived magmas. Combined with regional geological background, previous research, and the nature of the Ahetala granodiorite, we suggest that Ahetala granodiorite was emplaced at a transitional stage of the volcanic arc (syn-collision) to post-collision setting and the South Tianshan Ocean was closed in the Early Permian. The spontaneous combustion of coal is a disaster associated with coal mining. In this study, the authors investigated the characteristics of spontaneous combustion of coal at different temperatures (room temperature, 50–500 °C with 50 °C interval) using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), etc. The results showed the aromatic structure was mainly naphthalene. The aliphatic hydrocarbons were long chain. Oxygen, nitrogen, and sulphur existed as C-O, pyridine, pyrrole nitrogen, aliphatic sulphur, and sulfone. The molecular structural formula is C142H112N2O22. The stable 3D structural was obtained through optimization. Thermogravimetric analysis results showed the critical and dry-cracking temperatures of coal samples showed downward trends overall, whereas the acceleration and thermal-decomposition temperatures varied greatly with increase in oxidation temperature. The activation energy change pattern of 4 stages is not obvious. The FTIR results showed the contents of self-associated OH changed greatly. The aliphatic hydrocarbons changed greatly at 30–150 °C and 300–500 °C. The C-O showed increasing trends, whereas the C=O decreased consistently. The HRTEM results showed the aromatic fringes in coal samples were dominated by 1 × 1 and 2 × 2, the contents of which accounted for more than 80% of the total fringes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coal mining activities have a series of impacts on the local eco-environment, such as air pollution due to the release of toxic gases, contamination of soil with heavy metals, disturbance and contamination of surface and subsurface water, and damage to land resources with surface subsidence and accumulation of solid waste materials. This study investigated the distribution of heavy metals in mining sites by analyzing the heavy metal content in soil samples from different sites in the Dahuangshan mining area of the southern Junggar coalfield (Xinjiang, China). The results show that area C has the highest Cu content; and area B has the highest Mn content, the highest Zn content, the highest As content, and the highest Cd content, which indicate that area B underwent potential multiple heavy metal contamination. It also shows that the Cd is the major heavy metal for all three areas. The different eco-environmental indices, including the Nemerow comprehensive pollution index, the geo-accumulation index, and the potential ecological risk index, all show the same results, i.e., that Cd is the major potential contaminant in all three types of soil. The Uragen giant sandstone-hosted Zn–Pb deposit has a proven reserve of 5.90 Mt metals in the southern ore zone and potentially 10 Mt metals for the whole deposit, and orebodies are strictly confined to the bleached clastic rocks of the Lower Cretaceous red beds. The bleaching has been used to guide lead–zinc exploration; however, its nature and origin, as well as the relationship with Zn–Pb mineralization, remains unclear, although it is closely related to regional oil–gas infillings. Detailed field investigation and petrographic observation, TESCAN-integrated mineral analyzer (TIMA), and X-ray fluorescence (μ-XRF) analysis of the red and bleached sandstone at the same sedimentary layer demonstrate that the bleaching is mainly caused by the reductive dissolution of hematite pigment, which probably resulted from the interaction with H2S formed by in situ sulfate reduction during hydrocarbon migration. The calcite cements in the bleached sandstones show δ13C and δ18O values of −5.36~−5.94‰ and 20.94~27.91‰, respectively, and these samples fall close to the evolution line of decarboxylation of organic matter in δ13C-δ18O diagram, also suggesting a genetic relationship between the bleaching and hydrocarbon-bearing fluids. Petrol–mineral composition changes and sulfide characteristics of red, bleached, mineralized zones, as well as pyrite locally replaced by coarse-grained galena in the mineralized zone, imply that the bleaching may occurred before Zn–Pb mineralization. Mass balance calculation and μ-XRF analysis indicate that large amounts of Fe and minor Zn were extracted from red beds with little or no sulfates; however, the red beds with abundant sulfates may be a sink for leached ore metals during the bleaching process. We therefore propose that the former accumulations of iron sulfides and reduced sulfur in the bleached zones may provide an ideal chemical trap for later Zn–Pb mineralization, and the bleached zones with high ∑S contents are the favorable prospective targets of the Uragen-style sandstone-hosted Zn–Pb deposits. The chemical composition of rutile has been used as an indicator in magmatic and metamorphic-related diagenetic systems, but rarely in porphyry-style ore systems. The Tuwu deposit (557 Mt at 0.58% Cu) is a large porphyry-style Cu mineralization in Eastern Tianshan, Xinjiang, with typical disseminated, stockwork mineralized veins hosted in tonalite and diorite porphyry, and to a lesser extent in volcanic rocks of the Qi'eshan Group. We first present determination of rutile minerals coupled with chlorite identified in mineralized porphyries from Tuwu to reveal their geochemical features, thus providing new insights into the ore-forming processes and metal exploration. Petrographic and BSE observations show that the rutile generally occurs as large crystals (30 to 80 µm), in association with hydrothermal quartz, chlorite, pyrite, and chalcopyrite. The rutile grains display V, Fe, and Sn enrichment and flat LREE-MREE patterns, indicating a hydrothermal origin. Titanium in rutile (TiO2) is suggested to be sourced from the breakdown and re-equilibration of primary magmatic biotite and Ti-magnetite, and substituted by Sn4+, high field strength elements (HFSE; e.g., Zr4+ and Hf4+), and minor Mo4+ under hydrothermal conditions. The extremely low Mo values (average 30 ppm) in rutile may be due to rutile formation postdating that of Mo sulfides (MoS2) formation in hydrothermal fluids. Chlorite analyses imply that the ore-forming fluids of the main stage were weakly oxidized (logfO2 = −28.5 to −22.1) and of intermediate temperatures (308 to 372 °C), consistent with previous fluid inclusion studies. In addition, Zr-in-rutile geothermometer yields overestimated temperatures (>430 °C) as excess Zr is incorporated into rutile, which is likely caused by fast crystal growth or post crystallization modification by F-Cl-bearing fluid. Thus, application of this geothermometer to magmatic-hydrothermal ore systems is questionable. Based on the comparison of rutile characteristics of porphyry Cu with other types of ore deposits and barren rocks, we suggest that porphyry Cu-related rutile typically has larger grain size, is enriched in V (average 3408 ppm, compared to <1500 ppm of barren rocks) and to a lesser extent in W and Sn (average 121 and 196 ppm, respectively), and has elevated Cr + V/Nb + Ta ratios. These distinctive signatures can be used as critical indicators of porphyry-style Cu mineralization and may serve as a valuable tool in mineral exploration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Jurassic was mainly a "greenhouse" period characterized by global warming and by significant peat accumulations in some continental basins. However, studies of Jurassic climate and environments have mainly focused on marine records and only a few on terrestrial sediments. Yili Basin, a mid-latitude terrestrial basin in present Northwest China, included accumulation of the important recoverable coal seams. In this study, geological data, clay mineral analysis, and palynological assemblages were employed on fine-grained samples from the Su'asugou section in southern Yili Basin. The factors (paleoclimate, depositional conditions, and paleo-vegetation) impacting peat accumulation were investigated. The results suggest that the siliciclastics may have been derived from exposed Carboniferous rocks in a continental arc environment. A warm and humid paleoclimate in the Yili basin dominated during the early-Early Jurassic deposition of the Badaowan Formation and the Middle Jurassic deposition of the Xishanyao Formation. This climate contributed to high sedimentary rates and to a high productivity of peat-forming paleo-vegetation that was preserved under dysoxic conditions. In contrast, during the late-Early Jurassic between these two formations, the Sangonghe Formation was an interval of relatively aridity that included red beds preserved under more hypoxic sedimentary conditions, and with an interruption in peat formation and preservation.
