AbstractThe different crystal behaviors are found in two quinacridone compounds (QD and QD-Me) films grown epitaxially on an air-cleaved KBr (001) substrate. It is considered to imply the substitution effect on the hydrogen-bonding formation according to the investigation of both absorption properties and crystal structure.

AbstractOligomeric dimethylsilane (ODMS) and 1,6-di-(p-methoxy-strtyl)benzene (DSB-1) grew epitaxially on the friction-transferred polydimethylsilane (PDMS) and poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV) layers. The ODMS/PDMS and DSB-1/PPV double layers indicated the remarkable anisotropic feature in absorption and emission properties.

AbstractWe confirmed 6P thin films were uniaxially grown on friction transferred poly(p-phenylene) (PPP) films. Highly polarized absorption and emission of 6P were observed in the direction parallel to the friction direction of PPP. In this study, we have fabricated a polarized LED with an uniaxially oriented 6P layer. The polarization ratio of EL is 2.6 at maximum wavelength of 450 nm.

Abstract2,9-Dimethyl quinacridone (QD-Me) grew epitaxially on a KBr substrate took two kinds of molecular orientations. The absorption property of QD-Me film depended on the molecular orientation. When QD-Me molecules oriented parallel to the substrate surface, the intermolecular charge transfer was contributed effectively to the absorption intensity in the short wavelength region.

AbstractDistyryl benzene derivatives (DSB-1 and DSB-2) were deposited on a KBr (001) surface. DSB-1 molecules took two kinds of orientations depending on the substrate temperature. On the other hand, DSB-2 grew epitaxially. The longitudinal axes of DSB-2 molecules were oriented parallel to the substrate surface.

AbstractThree perylene compounds (H-PTC, Me-PTC and PhMe2-PTC) were grown epitaxially on a cleaved surface of a KBr crystal. The structure and molecular orientations in the film were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and AFM observations. The combination of TEM and AFM techniques was powerful method to detect the molecular orientation in a thin film.

AbstractDibis(ethyleneditho)tetrathiafulvalene (BEDT-TTF) was vacuum-deposited onto KC1 {001} and mica {001}. The molecular orientation in thin films and surface morphology were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). On the KC1 substrates, BEDT-TTF crystals were oriented epitaxially in the relation of (10–2) [020] BEDT-TTF//(001)[001]KC1± 5° Two types of orientations were found in the films on the mica substrates Coexisting with the orientation found in the films on KC1, (2–21) BEDT-TTF//(001)micawas found in the films formed on the mica substrate. However, the two-dimensional epitaxial relationship was not observed in the BEDT-TTF films formed on the mica surface.
