Abstract: The article reports on sulfonate relay in bacteria in antibiotic biosynthesis involving the enzymes 3-phosphoadenosine-5-phosphosulfate (PAPS) dependent sulfotransferases and arylsulfate sulfotransferases (ASSTs) which uses a new polyketide as the sulfonate shuttle for sulfonation. It mentions that scientists entertained the possibility that the putative genes located between ASST-encoding gene and start of the genes essential for assembly of liponucleoside core play a role in the sulfonation.
