The spontaneous bioelectrical activity of pacemaker cells in sinoatrial node (SAN) triggers the heartbeats. Here, the authors perform single-cell RNA sequencing in the mouse SAN and identify molecular and cellular features of the SAN conserved in rabbit and cynomolgus monkey, identifying a new potential SAN marker.

Regulating electron transport rate and ion concentrations in the local microenvironment of active site can overcome the slow kinetics and unfavorable thermodynamics of CO2 electroreduction. However, simultaneous optimization of both kinetics and thermodynamics is hindered by synthetic constraints and poor mechanistic understanding. Here we leverage laser-assisted manufacturing for synthesizing CuxO bipyramids with controlled tip angles and abundant nanograins, and elucidate the mechanism of the relationship between electron transport/ion concentrations and electrocatalytic performance. Potassium/OH− adsorption tests and finite element simulations corroborate the contributions from strong electric field at the sharp tip. In situ Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and differential electrochemical mass spectrometry unveil the dynamic evolution of critical *CO/*OCCOH intermediates and product profiles, complemented with theoretical calculations that elucidate the thermodynamic contributions from improved coupling at the Cu+/Cu2+ interfaces. Through modulating the electron transport and ion concentrations, we achieve high Faradaic efficiency of 81% at ~900 mA cm−2 for C2+ products via CO2RR. Similar enhancement is also observed for nitrate reduction reaction (NITRR), achieving 81.83 mg h−1 ammonia yield rate per milligram catalyst. Coupling the CO2RR and NITRR systems demonstrates the potential for valorizing flue gases and nitrate wastes, which suggests a practical approach for carbon-nitrogen cycling. Controlling the kinetics and thermodynamics of electrochemical processes is essential to achieve high-performance multielectron reduction. The kagome lattice Co3Sn2S2 exhibits the quintessential topological phenomena of a magnetic Weyl semimetal such as the chiral anomaly and Fermi-arc surface states. Probing its magnetic properties is crucial for understanding this correlated topological state. Here, using spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S) and non-contact atomic force microscopy (nc-AFM) combined with first-principle calculations, we report the discovery of localized spin-orbit polarons (SOPs) with three-fold rotation symmetry nucleated around single S-vacancies in Co3Sn2S2. The SOPs carry a magnetic moment and a large diamagnetic orbital magnetization of a possible topological origin associated relating to the diamagnetic circulating current around the S-vacancy. Appreciable magneto-elastic coupling of the SOP is detected by nc-AFM and STM. Our findings suggest that the SOPs can enhance magnetism and more robust time-reversal-symmetry-breaking topological phenomena. Controlled engineering of the SOPs may pave the way toward practical applications in functional quantum devices. Zika virus (ZIKV) infection is a public health emergency and host innate immunity is essential for the control of virus infection. The NLRP3 inflammasome plays a key role in host innate immune responses by activating caspase-1 to facilitate interleukin-1β (IL-1β) secretion. Here we report that ZIKV stimulates IL-1β secretion in infected patients, human PBMCs and macrophages, mice, and mice BMDCs. The knockdown of NLRP3 in cells and knockout of NLRP3 in mice inhibit ZIKV-mediated IL-1β secretion, indicating an essential role for NLRP3 in ZIKV-induced IL-1β activation. Moreover, ZIKV NS5 protein is required for NLRP3 activation and IL-1β secretion by binding with NLRP3 to facilitate the inflammasome complex assembly. Finally, ZIKV infection in mice activates IL-1β secretion, leading to inflammatory responses in the mice brain, spleen, liver, and kidney. Thus we reveal a mechanism by which ZIKV induces inflammatory responses by facilitating NLRP3 inflammasome complex assembly and IL-1β activation.
