Photocatalytic conversion of CO 2 into syngas is highly appealing, yet still suffers from the undesirable product yield due to the sluggish carrier transfer and the uncontrollable affinity between catalytic sites and intermediates. Here we report the fabrication of Co sites with tunable electron localization capability on two dimensional (2D) nanosheets assembled three dimensional (3D) ordered macroporous framework (3DOM-NS). The as-prepared Co-based 3DOM-NS catalysts exhibit attractive photocatalytic performances toward CO 2 reduction, among which the cobalt sulfide one (3DOM Co-SNS) shows the highest syngas generation rate up to 347.3 μmol h -1 under the irradiation of visible light and delivers a remarkable catalytic activity (1150.7 μmol h -1 ) in a flow reaction system under natural sunlight. Mechanism studies reveal that the high electron localization of metal sites in 3DOM Co-SNS strengthens the interaction between Co and HCOO* via the orbital interactions of d yz /d xz -p and s-s, thus facilitating the cleaving process of C-O bond. Adenosine deaminases acting on RNA (ADARs) impact diverse cellular processes and pathological conditions, but their functions in early cell-fate specification remain less understood. To gain insights here, we began by charting time-course RNA editing profiles in human organs from fetal to adult stages. Next, we utilized hPSC differentiation to experimentally probe ADARs, harnessing brain organoids as neural specific, and teratomas as pan-tissue developmental models. We show that time-series teratomas faithfully recapitulate fetal developmental trends, and motivated by this, conducted pan-tissue, single-cell CRISPR-KO screens of ADARs in teratomas. Knocking out ADAR leads to a global decrease in RNA editing across all germ-layers. Intriguingly, knocking out ADAR leads to an enrichment of adipogenic cells, revealing a role for ADAR in human adipogenesis. Blue corona discharges are often generated in thunderclouds penetrating into the stratosphere and are the optical manifestation of narrow bipolar events (NBEs) observed in radio signals. While their production appears to depend on convection, the cause and nature of such discharges are not well known. Here we show the observations by a lightning detection array of unusual amounts of 982 NBEs during a tropical storm on the coastline of China. NBEs of negative polarity are predominantly observed at the cloud top reaching the stratosphere, and positive NBEs are primarily at lower altitudes. We find that the dominant polarity changes with the typical time of development of thunderstorm cells, suggesting that the polarity depends on the phase of the storm cells. Furthermore, we find that the lightning jump of negative NBEs is associated with above-anvil cirrus plumes of ice crystals and water vapor in the lower stratosphere. We propose that variations in updrafts induce changes in the altitude and charge concentrations of the cloud layers, which lead to the polarity transition. The prevalence of cardiometabolic diseases in the United States is presumably linked to an obesogenic retail food environment that promotes unhealthy dietary habits. Past studies, however, have reported inconsistent findings about the relationship between the two. One underexplored area is how humans interact with food environments and how to integrate human activity into scalable measures. In this paper, we develop the retail food activity index (RFAI) at the census tract level by utilizing Global Positioning System tracking data covering over 94 million aggregated visit records to approximately 359,000 food retailers across the United States over two years. Here we show that the RFAI has significant associations with the prevalence of multiple cardiometabolic diseases. Our study indicates that the RFAI is a promising index with the potential for guiding the development of policies and health interventions aimed at curtailing the burden of cardiometabolic diseases, especially in communities characterized by obesogenic dietary behaviors., (© 2023. The formyl peptide receptor 1 (FPR1) is primarily responsible for detection of short peptides bearing N-formylated methionine (fMet) that are characteristic of protein synthesis in bacteria and mitochondria. As a result, FPR1 is critical to phagocyte migration and activation in bacterial infection, tissue injury and inflammation. How FPR1 distinguishes between formyl peptides and non-formyl peptides remains elusive. Here we report cryo-EM structures of human FPR1-Gi protein complex bound to S. aureus-derived peptide fMet-Ile-Phe-Leu (fMIFL) and E. coli-derived peptide fMet-Leu-Phe (fMLF). Both structures of FPR1 adopt an active conformation and exhibit a binding pocket containing the R201 5.38 XXXR205 5.42 (RGIIR) motif for formyl group interaction and receptor activation. This motif works together with D106 3.33 for hydrogen bond formation with the N-formyl group and with fMet, a model supported by MD simulation and functional assays of mutant receptors with key residues for recognition substituted by alanine. Narrow bipolar events (NBEs) are signatures in radio signals from thunderstorms observed by ground-based receivers. NBEs may occur at the onset of lightning, but the discharge process is not well understood. Here, we present spectral measurements by the Atmosphere-Space Interactions Monitor (ASIM) on the International Space Station that are associated with nine negative and three positive NBEs observed by a ground-based array of receivers. We found that both polarities NBEs are associated with emissions at 337 nm with weak or no detectable emissions at 777.4 nm, suggesting that NBEs are associated with streamer breakdown. The rise times of the emissions for negative NBEs are about 10 μs, consistent with source locations at cloud tops where photons undergo little scattering by cloud particles, and for positive NBEs are ~1 ms, consistent with locations deeper in the clouds. For negative NBEs, the emission strength is almost linearly correlated with the peak current of the associated NBEs. Turnover of focal adhesions allows cell retraction, which is essential for cell migration. The mammalian spectraplakin protein, ACF7 (Actin-Crosslinking Factor 7), promotes focal adhesion dynamics by targeting of microtubule plus ends towards focal adhesions. However, it remains unclear how the activity of ACF7 is regulated spatiotemporally to achieve focal adhesion-specific guidance of microtubule. To explore the potential mechanisms, we resolve the crystal structure of ACF7's NT (amino-terminal) domain, which mediates F-actin interactions. Structural analysis leads to identification of a key tyrosine residue at the calponin homology (CH) domain of ACF7, whose phosphorylation by Src/FAK (focal adhesion kinase) complex is essential for F-actin binding of ACF7. Using skin epidermis as a model system, we further demonstrate that the phosphorylation of ACF7 plays an indispensable role in focal adhesion dynamics and epidermal migration in vitro and in vivo. Together, our findings provide critical insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying coordinated cytoskeletal dynamics during cell movement.
