A lower molar of Castor fiber from the sandpit of Langenboom (the Netherlands) represents, so far, the oldest occurrence of a beaver in the North Sea Basin. Its presence in the marine sand deposit of the Langenboom Formation indicates that Castor fiber inhabited areas in or near the river systems of Rhine and Meuse in the Early Pliocene. more...
