This article presents the case of a 30-year-old primigravida who was admitted in active spontaneous labor at 39.7 weeks' gestation. She had no history of sexually transmitted diseases and lived a healthy lifestyle. She was born and raised in West Africa and had returned to her home country twice in the previous three years. At 14.6 weeks she had a normal pelvic examination and a pap smear that showed yeast. At 25.9 weeks she developed pain over the right rib cage and a diagnosis of costochondritis was made. All was well up to 39.1 weeks' gestation. On the day of admission fetal movement had ceased and contractions began. Within an hour a stillborn infant was delivered with a soft head and macerated skin. An autopsy showed the baby died due to congenital group B streptococcal infection.
