The article examines the prominent U.S. newspapers, notably "The Wall Street Journal" and "New York Times" which are part of publicly traded corporations with dual stock systems. Only shares owned by the families which control the newspapers have full voting rights. The poor performance of the stocks of Dow Jones and the Times corporation are noted. The owning families are criticized for supporting democracy everywhere but in their own firms.
