The article looks at the crisis facing low-lying airports around the world as sea levels rise and extreme weather brought about by climate change. It forecasts greenhouse gas emissions from international air travel by 2050 and discusses potential effects of global warming on the aviation industry. It highlights initiatives of airports in defense of floods that include installation of flood walls at La Guardia Airport in New York and rainwater pumps at Kansai International Airport in Japan.
