The article discusses the cultural importance of photographic snapshots with reference to an exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. titled "The Art of the American Snapshot 1888-1978." It is reported that photographs belonging to snapshot collector Robert E. Jackson make up the bulk of the exhibit. Topics addressed by curators of the exhibit include the evolution of the Kodak camera, nude photography in the 1920s and 1930s, and amateur photography of the Cold War era.
