Abstract

(Abstracted from Obstet Gynecol2016;128:476–485)There is a clear survival benefit for prophylactic oophorectomy in patients with inherently higher cancer risk such as those with BRCA1and BRCA2and other genetic mutations. For average-risk women, however, cancer risk reduction must be balanced with the consequences of loss of ovarian hormone production and fertility.
