The paper describes integrated research of the Krasnaya and Varkutsyakha rivers of Vaygach Island in the 2023 summer low water period, carried out by the Northwestern Branch of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology. This research is aimed at studying the specifics of mixing zone formation for Arctic island lagoon estuaries. The maximum suspended particulate matter concentrations were found near the upper boundary of the mixing zone. Studies have been conducted to assess the functioning of the marginal filter in tidal estuaries of small rivers of the Arctic seas. For this, we used observational data in the White and Barents seas. When extensive tidal drains and thickets of halophytes exist in the mouths of small rivers, biogeochemical processes can differ markedly from the conditions described by the classical marginal filter theory. This is because it was developed based on the example of mouths of large rivers and does not take into account the specifics of ecosystems in the mouths of small rivers. They may change the spatial pattern of alternating turbid, chemical, and biological "traffic jams." Attention is drawn to marginal filters in the lagoon estuaries of Arctic rivers where aquatic macrophytes are present, which can impede the transport of insoluble matter released into the sea during the melting of permafrost and glaciers. In the winter low-water season in March and the first week of April 2019, comprehensive hydrological and hydrochemical studies were carried out at the mouths of two small rivers of the White Sea catchment basin: (the Mudyuga River, which flows into Dvina Bay, and the Tamitsa River, which flows into Onega Bay). In the nearshore of the first river, microtidal conditions are observed (the size of the spring tide in summer is about 1 m); in the nearshore of the second river, mesotidal conditions are observed (the size of the spring tide in summer is 2.4 m).
