Abstract: We have demonstrated an efficient diode-pumped passively Q-switched Nd:GdVO4 laser working at 1342nm by using an uncoated V3+:YAG crystal as the saturable absorber, in which both a-cut and c-cut Nd:GdVO4 crystals are employed. At the maximum absorbed pump power of 9.45W, the maximum average output power can reach 519mW and 441mW corresponding to the output coupler with different transmission of 3% and 10% by using an a-cut Nd:GdVO4 crystal at 1342nm, while the shortest pulse duration could be as low as 21.7ns and 22.3ns with the repetition rate of 48.41kHz and 53.25kHz by using a c-cut Nd:GdVO4 crystal, corresponding to the output coupler with different transmission of 3% and 10% at 1342nm, and the single Q-switched pulse energy are 6.67uJ and 7.06uJ, the pulse peak power are 307W and 316W, respectively. The experimental results show that c-cut Nd:GdVO4 laser can generate shorter pulse with higher peak power in comparison with a-cut one. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: By using neodymium-doped gadolinium gallium garnet (Nd:GGG) as a laser medium, a simultaneously passively Q-switched and mode-locked (QML) dual-wavelength laser with Cr4+:YAG as a saturable absorber is presented. The laser simultaneously oscillated at 1061nm and 1063nm, corresponding to a frequency difference of 0.53THz. QML pulses with nearly 100% modulation depth were observed. The mode-locked pulse duration underneath the Q-switched envelope was estimated to be about 908ps. The experimental results indicated that the dual-wavelength QML Nd:GGG laser can be an excellent candidate for the generation of THz waves. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A diode-pumped doubly Q-switched c-cut Nd:GdVO4 laser at 1.34μm with acousto-optic (AO) modulator and V3+:YAG saturable absorber is demonstrated. This doubly Q-switched laser can generate shorter pulse width and higher peak power than the singly Q-switched laser only with an AO modulator or a V3+:YAG saturable absorber. By considering the thermal lens effect of the laser gain medium, the coupled rate equations for the doubly Q-switched laser at 1.34μm under Gaussian approximation are given. Abstract: A diode-pumped doubly passively Q-switched intracavity-frequency-doubling Nd:LuVO4/KTP green laser with Cr4+:YAG and GaAs saturable absorbers is demonstrated. This laser can generate the shorter pulse width with higher peak power compared with the singly passively Q-switched green laser with Cr4+:YAG or GaAs saturable absorber. The relations between the pulse symmetry and the ratio of the small-signal transmissions of two saturable absorbers are investigated. By reasonably choosing the small-signal transmissions of both saturable absorbers, the doubly passively Q-switched green laser can generate the much more symmetric pulse profile. The coupled rate equations are used to simulate the passively Q-switched process of the green laser by considering the Gaussian transversal and longitudinal distributions of the intracavity photon density. A laser-diode pumped Nd:YxGd1 − xVO4 laser passively Q-switched with a GaAs saturable absorber has been realized. Both continuous wave (CW) and Q-switched laser performances at l.06 μm are investigated. At the incident pump power of 4.4 W and with the output coupler transmission of 15%, the CW output power of 2.2 W is obtained, corresponding to an optical conversion efficiency of 50% and an average slope efficiency of 63%. For Q-switched operation, at the pump power of 3.9 W and with the output coupler transmission of 50%, stable laser pulses with pulse duration of 12 ns, pulse energy of 3.8 μJ and repetition rate of 199 KHz are generated, corresponding to peak power of 317 W.
