Abstract

Cyclodextrins (CDxs) have been selectively deuterated using a Ru/C-catalyzed H-D exchange reaction in D2O. The structures of the deuterated CDxs barely changed and their (1)H NMR spectra became very simple, which made it possible for the deuterated CDxs to be applied to the analysis of CDx complexes. Furthermore, the deuterated CDxs allowed for the existence of the equilibrium between free and complexed CDx to be confirmed, even at rt.

Abstract

A 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-pyridyl)porphyrin (TPyP)-deposited ITO electrode as a sensor of nucleotides using photocurrent change was prepared. The TPyP-deposited ITO electrode could repeatedly detect nucleotides having concentrations of the microM order by a decrease in the photocurrent.

[reaction: see text] Pristine single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and nucleotides mixed using a mechanochemical high-speed vibration milling technique (HSVM) are soluble in an aqueous solution, and the solubilities of SWNTs depend significantly on the number of phosphate groups and the kinds of bases employed.

Abstract

Fullerene-containing liposomes with high photosensitization ability were prepared. Disaggregated fullerenes were efficiently injected into the bilayer of liposomes by a phototriggered molecular exchange reaction. These liposomes showed far higher photoreactivity than liposomes thermally produced by heating and microwave irradiation. This result indicates that control of self-aggregation of fullerene leads to a high quantum yield for the photoreaction because of the suppression of self-quenching of photoexcited fullerenes.

Abstract

We have used a mechanochemical high-speed vibration milling (HSVM) technique to solubilize single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in organic solvents through the formation of complexes between the SWNTs and a polythiophene (PT) derivative. This HSVM approach is superior to the conventional sonication method used to solubilize SWNTs in organic solvents. Moreover, we found that in these supramolecular complexes the PT chains were ordered one-dimensionally on the SWNT surfaces in organic solvents. [structure: see text].
