Phenylglycines are building blocks of many non-ribosomally synthesized peptides. The dihydroxyphenylglycine-containing cyclodepsipeptide cochinmicin I exhibits endothelin receptor antagonist activity. Therefore, it represents an interesting and synthetically challenging molecule because of the racemization-prone nature of dihydroxyphenylglycine.
