Such thoughts are perhaps uppermost on a perusal of Peterson's full bibliography of literary publications and lectures, appended to the essays distinguished here. If this essay collection anticipated the anniversaries of the Kelmscott Press and its I Chaucer i by a year, it arrived just in time for the fuller appreciation of William Morris's influences and his legacy. A book more sumptuously styled by its author would not be as tasteful a tribute to Morris's foliated ornaments, ample margins, and Troy and Golden types; though not vellum, its pages are a pleasure to handle (and Morris preferred paper anyway). Making Archives in Early Modern Europe: Proof, Information, and Political Record-Keeping, 1400-1700 Second, Head carefully tracks the political and cultural attitudes toward the affordances of records that simultaneously contributed to and emerged from these shifting documentary practices. Head also highlights more successful projects, whose shared trait, he argues, was conceptual flexibility, usually enabled by the use of a registry system, something Head singles out as a key development of early modern Europe. Bearing in mind the rich body of work upon which the collection builds, the claims that this is "the first edited collection on book publishers that sold modernist texts to a wide range of readers across the Atlantic and elsewhere" or indeed that "publishers are nearly invisible in New Modernist Studies" are a little disingenuous (2). This backs up Jaillant's introduction, addressing how the Woolfs' publishing house "is really the only modernist publishing house to have received a thorough "material modernism" treatment by a variety of scholars" (71). It is certainly possible to page through the book looking only at these 140 illustrations and their captions and to conclude that Loxley has succeeded admirably in painting a full and nuanced picture of Walker's life. This material was given by Walker to Sir Sydney Cockerell, then by Cockerell to Ronald C. H.
