Abstract

The article focuses on the history of the publication of an early Presbyterian hymnal in the Maritime Provinces, Canada. Topics discussed include rare surviving copies of the book "The Choir;" the controversy involved in 19th century Canadian religious book publishing; and opinion that the book was prepared to meet the unique musical interests of Maritime Presbyterians who were engaged in lively debates about innovations in church worship.
