Abstract
The article critiques the poem "A Wave," by John Ashbury, particularly focusing on his use of an enigmatic style which privileges indeterminacy rather than the traditional symbolist style practiced by most modernist and postmodernist poets. It explores the intent of "A Wave," the poet's desire to represent experience as ongoing impression, and Ashbury's writing in the poem as conventionally referential.
