Based on data from hospitality workers in China, our study examined the effect of work–life conflict on job performance via employee wellbeing, and how this effect was moderated by extraversion. The survey results have revealed that work–life conflict jeopardizes employees' job performance via its adverse effect on their wellbeing. Furthermore, the effects of work–life conflict on wellbeing (directly), and on job performance (indirectly) via wellbeing, is amplified by extraversion. This indicates that extraverted employees experience more health impairment and performance decline than introverted employees when encountered with work–life conflict. Our results suggest that managers could implement family-supportive practices to alleviate employees' work–life conflict, which has implications on their wellbeing and performance, and should pay attention to employees' trait extraversion in doing so. This research examined how core self-evaluation (CSE) develops from social support in the career context and how it influences individuals' life satisfaction. Study 1 used a field survey to collect data from 768 university students for testing the mediating role of CSE in the relationship between career social support (CSS) and life satisfaction. Study 2 employed two experiments with two groups of participants ( n = 103 for Experiment 1 and n = 102 for Experiment 2) to further verify the Study 1 findings obtained from cross-sectional data. The results from these two studies showed that CSE mediated the CSS-life satisfaction relationship in such a way that CSS served as a cause of CSE, which in turn affected individuals' life satisfaction. Among the first to use both field study and experiments to confirm the antecedent (i.e., CSS) and outcome (i.e., life satisfaction) of CSE, this research offers useful insights regarding CSE as a causal mechanism underlying the effect of CSS on life satisfaction and carries important theoretical and practical implications. This study examined two value orientations (i.e., a doing orientation, or the tendency to commit to work ethic and goals, and a mastery orientation, or the tendency to seek control over outside forces) as mediators in the relationship between core self-evaluation and career decision self-efficacy. Data were collected from 802 Chinese university students and analyzed employing structural equation modeling. Results showed that both doing and mastery orientations fully mediated the relationship between core self-evaluation and career decision self-efficacy. Mastery orientation exhibited a stronger mediating effect on this relationship than did doing orientation. These findings reveal some important mechanisms underlying the role of core self-evaluation in career decision-making processes and offer useful implications for researchers and practitioners. Based on a three-wave survey of 223 full-time workers, this study investigates how trait conscientiousness affects career satisfaction and job satisfaction and the boundary condition of these effects. We found that conscientiousness fostered career and job satisfaction through enabling thriving at work. Results also revealed that the impact of conscientiousness on thriving at work, and subsequently on career and job satisfaction, was stronger when individuals received less supervisor support. Abstract This daily diary study examines the different functions of personality trait extraversion in shaping proactive behavior at both between-person and within-person levels. Building on the affect-as-resources perspective, the authors propose that personality trait extraversion is positively related to higher levels of high-activated PA, and consequently more proactive behavior at the between-person level. However, it mitigates the positive relationship between daily high-activated PA and daily proactive behavior at the within-person level. Results of a multilevel path model using data collected from 122 individuals for 10 consecutive working days support the hypotheses. This study advances our understanding of the role of personality trait extraversion in shaping individual proactive behavior at different levels.
