Objective. This study aims to explore the mediation role of perceived stress between nonrestorative sleep (NRS) and emotional distress, as well as the moderation role of resilience among NRS, perceived stress, and emotional distress in university students. Method. We recruited 851 students from the Be Resilient to Nursing Career program (BRNC, registration number: NFYKDX002) in June 2022. Nonrestorative sleep scale (NRSS), 10-item perceived stress scale (PSS-10), 10-item Kessler psychological distress scale (K10), and 10-item Connor–Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC-10) were administered through a paper questionnaire. Latent profile analysis and moderated mediation analysis were performed. Results. Three profiles of perceived stress were identified: high ability-low stress (24.5%), middle ability-high stress (65.0%), and low ability-middle stress (10.5%). The mediation role of perceived stress between NRS and emotional distress was significant (SE = 0.025; 95% confidence interval = −0.369, −0.269). The moderation role of resilience among NRS, perceived stress, and emotional distress was not significant. Conclusion. Heterogeneity exists in freshmen students' perceived stress. Perceived stress plays a significant mediating role between NRS and emotional distress, while resilience cannot significantly moderate the associations among NRS, perceived stress, and emotional distress. Background. The prominence of technology in modern life cannot be understated. However, for some people, these innovations or their related plausible advancements can be associated with perceptual misinterpretation and/or incorporation into delusional concepts. Objective. This paper aims to explore the intersection of technological advancement and experiencing psychosis. We present a discussion about the explanation seeking that incorporates the concept, that for some people, of technological innovation becoming intertwined with delusional symptoms over the past 100 years. Methods. A longitudinal review of the literature was conducted to synthesize and draw these concepts together, mapping them to a timeline that aligns computing science and healthcare expertise and presents the significant technological changes of the modern era charted against mental health milestones and reports of technology-related delusions. Results. It is possible for technology to be incorporated into the content of delusions with evidence supporting a link between the rate of technological change, the content of delusions, and the use of technology as a way of seeking an explanation. Moreover, analysis suggests a need to better understand how innovations may impact the mental health of people at risk of psychosis and other mental health conditions. Conclusions. Clinical experts and lived experience experts need to be informed about and collaborate with future research and development of technology, specifically artificial intelligence and machine learning, early in the development cycle. This concurs with other artificial intelligence research recommendations calling for design attention to the development and implementation of technological innovation applied in a mental health context. Purpose: To find out whether psychological capital has a mediating role in the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention on nurses. Design and Methods: This study is a cross‐sectional descriptive study. 466 nurses participated in this study. Data were collected via paper‐and‐pencil format using Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, Psychological Capital Questionnaire and Turnover Intention Scale. Conclusions: Our findings revealed effects of poor psychological capital among nurses. The effect of psychological capital was statistically significant and it partially mediated job satisfaction and turnover intention. Purpose: This paper describes the strategy and outcomes of a quality improvement initiative focused on building the capacity of nurses at a mental health and addictions teaching hospital to provide an improved standard of physical health care. Education was provided via a series of e‐learning modules and interactive workshops. To reinforce the education and enhance practice change, improvements were made to electronic documentation templates and organizational standards. Further, the organization provided increased access to physical health equipment, a mobile application to support assessments and a reference card for lanyards. Conclusions: Nurses identified increased confidence in performing physical assessments, and documentation improved with standards and automated forced functionality in the electronic health record. Ultimately, the organization successfully implemented a multifaceted strategy to improve physical healthcare services for people with mental health and substance use concerns. Purpose: The study aims to develop a measurement tool that will determine the innovative leadership levels of nurses. Methods: This methodological paper was conducted with 615 nurses. The content validity, factor analyses, and Cronbach's alpha test were used for psychometric assessment. Findings: As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the scale consists of 43 items and five subscales. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the innovative leadership scale (ILS) is a valid model. Practical Implications: There is a need for innovative leading nurses in the healthcare field. Purpose: This paper aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the social cyberloafing (SC) scale as an important predictor of the mental health of healthcare employees. Methods: The data for this descriptive cross‐sectional study was obtained from 202 Turkish healthcare employees. We followed Dima's 6‐step protocol for validation. Findings: The one‐dimensional structure of the scale was found to be homogenous (H = 0.54) and reliable (α = 0.87). The CFA demonstrated that the 7‐item and one‐factor construct was a valid instrument to measure the SC (GFI = 0.98, CFI = 0.98, TLI = 0.95, SRMR = 0.03, RMSEA = 0.09). Purpose: Bipolar disorder is associated with increased rates of morbidity and mortality, magnified in women of childbearing age. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the differential diagnosis and management of bipolar disorder in women of childbearing age. Conclusions: Differential diagnoses for bipolar disorder include depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma‐related disorders, attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and personality disorders. Pharmacotherapeutic options for the treatment of bipolar disorder include lithium, anti‐epileptic medications, and atypical antipsychotics. In regard to women of childbearing age, consideration of risks, benefits, and alternative therapies is needed before initiating therapy. Practice Implications: Caring for patients with bipolar disorder, particularly women of childbearing age, requires careful differentiation of bipolar disorder from other mental health problems, and prudent consideration of pharmacotherapeutic options. Purpose: Treatment‐resistant depression (TRD) can require complex management. The purpose of this paper is to provide an update on the hypothesized neurobiology of depression, and to describe treatment options for patients impacted by TRD. Conclusions: Recent neurobiological findings support the use of augmenting pharmacological agents, neuromodulation techniques, and esketamine as effective in achieving remission for those with TRD. Practice Implications: First‐line interventions for depression can be safely managed by primary care providers. Purpose: The aim of this paper is to report the specific views and experiences of lesbians and identify their distinct mental health issues and concerns. Design and methods: A mixed-methods design with surveys and individual interviews was utilized. The data were thematically analyzed. Findings: The key themes were (a) enabling service access, (b) person-centered support, (c) models of care, (d) community presence and participation, and (e) future aspirations for mental health services. Practice implications: The study results inform and develops the understanding of the issues that impact upon the mental health and well-being of lesbians. Purpose: To explore and synthesize literature related to the nursing process addressing the focus "Delusion". Design and Methods: This literature review is integrated with a scoping study framework. From the total 252 papers found, 39 were selected. Findings: Relevant data and diagnostic activities, hypothetic nursing diagnoses, and interventions addressing the focus "Delusion" were identified. Practice Implications: This literature review allowed the development of a clinical data model addressing the focus "Delusion", based on the steps of the nursing process identified. This clinical data model may contribute towards improving nursing clinical decision‐making and nursing care quality in relation to a client suffering from delusion as well as producing more reliable nursing‐sensitive indicators. Purpose: This paper explores complex challenges in diagnosis and treatment of patients with comorbid eating disorders and mood disorders. An integrative review of the literature examines overlapping symptoms, phenotypes, neural circuits, and genetic factors for these disorders. A case study illustrates how the integration of knowledge from research and practice can inform a diagnostic formulation and multifaceted treatment plan. Conclusions: Patients with complex clinical presentations inspire a search for research and clinical literature that helps build the neuroscience foundations of advanced practice. Purpose: This paper describes a project to assess the feasibility of a brief healthy lifestyle health education group (HE) program and its effects on patient outcomes. Design and Methods: Forty adult inpatients were enrolled in the HE program, which featured a one‐group, pretest or posttest design deployed in an adult psychiatric unit. Outcomes comprised (1) feasibility and acceptability of the program and (2) changes in patient knowledge and weight. Findings: The HE program demonstrates not only feasibility, but also improvement in patient outcomes related to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Purpose: Currently only one‐third of patients treated for depression enjoy complete remission of their negative symptoms. This paper explores ketamine research as it applies to understanding and treating mood illnesses. Conclusions: Ketamine's rapid antidepressant effect implicates downstream signal transduction involving the spontaneous transmissions associated with ketamine's action at the NMDA receptor. Purpose: Academic positions for consumers of mental health services remain rare despite positive evaluation. This paper considers the benefits and challenges of a consumer academician position, from perspectives of stakeholders involved in the implementation. Design and Methods: Qualitative, exploratory involving in‐depth interviews with academicians. Thematic analysis identified the main benefits and challenges. Findings: Benefits identified included lived experience perspective and facilitates interaction and reflection; demonstrating recovery and promoting person centered care. Challenges identified included process, too close to home, and too little too late. Background: This paper has attempted to explore views of patients with severe mental illness and their care providers about sharing sexual problems with care providers in these patients within the context of Iran. Method: A total of 17 in‐depth semi‐structured interviews were conducted in one of the psychiatric hospital in Tehran: 4 with patients, 2 with patient's family, and 11 with health providers who had been employed for 5 years in psychiatric wards at least. All participants were selected by purposive sampling. Using conventional qualitative content analysis data reduction was done. Findings: A total of 89 codes about the reasons for lack of communication between clinician and patients, about sexuality were extracted. These are classified in two categories. The first is "Clinicians avoidance from addressing sexual issues" and second is "Patients avoidance from expressing their sexual problems." Conclusion: Despite having sexual needs, severe mental illnesses patients do not disclose it due to poor communication between clinician and patients, about sexuality. So, physician had to be pioneer in communicating with them. Therefore, to enhance clinicians' sexual knowledge and effective communication skills with patients, especially those with severe mental illnesses, training is completely necessary. Purpose: This paper presents a literature review of post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and its link to chronic pain. Design and Methods: Twenty‐four papers are reviewed (included research and reviews), with the goal of improving and updating our understanding on this issue and its theoretical and clinical repercussions. Findings: The tight interdependence of symptoms that can be observed in both PTSD and chronic pain syndromes lends support to the idea that these disorders both constitute a reactive disorder. Purpose Research papers present us with the summaries of scholars' work; what we readers do not see are the struggles behind the decision to choose one methodology over another. Design and Methods A student's mental health portfolio contained a narrative that led to an exploration of the most appropriate methodology for a projected study of clinical anecdotes told by nurses who work in mental health settings to undergraduates and new recruits about mental health nursing. This paper describes the process of struggle, beginning with the student's account, before posing a number of questions needing answers before the choice of the most appropriate methodology. Findings We argue, after discussing the case for the use of literary analysis, discourse analysis, symbolic interactionism, hermeneutics, and narrative research, that case study research is the methodology of choice. A literature review revealed criteria for a checklist. Subsequent to viewings, salient recurring criteria were added to the checklist. Films were systematically analyzed under these criteria. Findings Homicidal maniacs are the most common stereotypes. Misinformation is often communicated. Familiar horror tropes are used to stigmatize MHCEs. Practice implications Practitioners should be aware of the specific manner in which clients are being stigmatized by the media. Abstract: People suffering from depression, schizophrenia, and dementia often have measurably lower levels of serum folate compared to people not experiencing psychiatric disorders. Augmentation of SSRI and SNRI antidepressant medications with l‐methylfolate has been demonstrated to increase their effectiveness and onset of action. Even the use of l‐methylfolate as a stand‐alone monotherapy has been observed to exert antidepressant properties. The role of folate in mental illness has been known for many decades, but the strategic use of l‐methylfolate supplementation has not yet been accepted as a standard regimen. It is the proposal of this paper that advanced nurse practitioners should consider the use of l‐methylfolate as an adjunct to antidepressant medications at the initiation of therapy as part of a standard regimen in their clinical practice. Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this review was to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness‐based interventions (MBIs) for management of parenting distress in parents of children with disabilities. Design: A narrative review was conducted. A search protocol was conducted using Google Scholar, EBSCO, Pubmed, CINAHL, Ovid, and PsycINFO databases up to September 1, 2016. Results: Interventions used a variety of approaches to implement mindfulness training, including MBIs and combined mindfulness and other interventions. Targeted outcomes included in this review were parenting stress and psychological distress. Most of the reviewed papers reported positive role of MBIs to manage parenting distress. Conclusion: The results of this first review on the topic provide preliminary support for the efficacy of MBIs for supporting parents of children with disabilities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Background: Healthy spousal communication of marital and sexual expectations is one of the most important factors to improve the quality of sexual relations in marriage. Objectives: This paper has attempted to explore women's expectations of men for having pleasurable sex in a monogamous and steady sexual relationship within the context of Iran. Methods: In this qualitative study, 20 interviews were conducted in Tehran from December 2013 to May 2014. Participants were recruited using purposive sampling, face‐to‐face, in‐depth, and semistructured interviews. The collected data were analyzed using qualitative conventional content analysis. The research was designed with regard to Lincoln and Guba's four major rigor criteria in qualitative investigation. Results: Women's expectations for having enjoyable sex were classified in two areas: (1) marital components and (2) sexual components. Marital components included romantic relationships, attention, respect and admiration, appreciation, man's loyalty, and having compatibility. Sexual components included enough sexual skills, good sexual function, and commitment to equity in sex. Conclusions: This research helps to identify women's expectations for having a gratifying sexual relationship and thus contributes to enhanced sexual satisfaction, as well as marital stability and continuity. PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper is to summarize the need for improved recognition of depression versus diabetes distress and discuss recommendations for appropriate screening tools. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: In order to assess for both depression and diabetes distress, a combined approach of using both the WHO‐5 and the PAID‐20 is a simple and reliable method for detecting depression and assisting in determining the focus of specific aspects of diabetes management based on the patient's reported depressive symptoms. PURPOSE To explore the experiences of mental health workers and perceptions of their role and the scope of their work. DESIGN AND METHODS Qualitative design. Twenty interviews were conducted with mental health workers. Interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. FINDINGS Three overarching themes were identified. In this paper the overarching theme of 'dimensions of my role' is discussed. Subthemes were (a) information and education, (b) person-centered care, and (c) networking and partnerships. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Professional development, networking, and partnerships underpin the provision of coordinated services and ultimately person-centered care. PURPOSE The purpose of this paper was to identify challenges of families caring for loved ones prior to inpatient psychiatric care, understand families' perceptions of support received from psychiatric health professionals, and identify ways for professionals to support families. CONCLUSIONS Families experienced many challenges prior to hospital admission. There was a large gap between families' expectations and perceptions of actual support received by psychiatric health professionals. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Nurses are well positioned to educate, advocate, and support overburdened families. BACKGROUND Hourly rounding is an organized practice where nurses perform regular checks on individual patients at fixed intervals in order to elicit any information that will improve the patient's care and well-being. Weaknesses in the existing literature on rounding include a lack of focus on the nurse-patient interaction, the absence of a guiding theoretical framework, and, lastly, marginal implementation of rounding within the psychiatric setting. PURPOSE The intent of this paper is to address these weaknesses by describing and proposing a rounding tool, based upon the acronym ICARE, to be used in the inpatient psychiatric setting. Roach's Theory on Caring will be the theoretical underpinnings for the basis of this rounding initiative. Purpose: To explore perceptions of nurses and patients regarding sexual intimacy in a long‐term mental health unit. Design and Methods: Qualitative exploratory design including in‐depth semi‐structured individual interviews with 12 registered nurses and 10 long‐term patients of a forensic mental health hospital. Findings: The theme of supporting sexual intimacy was identified and described in this paper and included the following subthemes for nurses: It depends on the setting, need for guidelines and consent, and for patients—it depends on the setting; and need for support. Practice Implications: The findings suggest that current guidelines regarding sexual intimacy in acute inpatient settings may not be appropriate in long‐term facilities, with a need for guidelines to specifically address this setting. Furthermore, support for sexual intimacy needs of patients was identified as a strong need for patients and they believed not currently met. Nurses have an important role to play as part of their holistic approach to care and barriers to providing this aspect of care must be overcome to ensure patients' rights are respected. Purpose: This paper will acquaint the psychiatric nurse with attachment theory‐based therapy through a narrative of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment of a Vietnam veteran with a history of compound trauma in childhood. Design and Methods: Application of attachment‐based therapy is discussed within the context of its guiding principles and tenets. Findings: Attachment‐based therapy is effective in reducing PTSD symptoms in a Vietnam veteran through forming secure base scripts from which the patient better evaluated and managed stressors, resulting in improved life functioning. Practice Implications: Attachment theory provides valuable tools with which to treat PTSD sufferers by utilizing nurses' expert skills in establishing rapport and relationship building to form the basis of effectual therapy. Purpose: The aims of this paper are to synthesize and report research findings from neuroscience and epigenetics that contribute to an emerging explanatory framework for advanced practice psychiatric nursing. Conclusions: Discoveries in neuroscience and epigenetics reveal synergistic mechanisms that support the integration of psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and psychoeducation in practice. Purpose: This paper examines the findings from an exit interview with a cardiometabolic health nurse (CHN) following a 26‐week trial. Design and Methods: The CHN participated in a semi‐structured exit interview following completion of the 26‐week trial. Applied thematic analysis was used to identify themes contained in the resultant transcript. Findings: Contrary to the literature, the CHN did not consider additional training necessary to undertake the role. The CHN felt additional information regarding the research implications of the trial and greater organizational support would contribute to better consumer and health service outcomes. Purpose Utilization of the Recovery Knowledge Inventory ( RKI) and Recovery Attitudes Questionnaire ( RAQ) in southeastern Australia raised questions about the RAQ, including links between attitudes, faith, and culture in supporting the recovery journey. These questions are particularly important when considered in the context of people with mental illness who live in secular multicultural societies. Conclusions This paper discusses the cultural appropriateness of the RAQ in Australian settings, and identifies the need to develop rigorous, inclusive recovery outcome measures. Practice Implications It is important to identify what best motivates people in their recovery journey, and to find a way to harness these motivating factors to achieve the best possible outcomes. Purpose There is extensive literature related to the experience of sexual assault of women with a majority focused on younger women, college-aged women, or older women. There is little research about the experience of sexual assault of mid-life women. Design and Methods This paper synthesizes the current literature associated with sexual assault by describing the increased number of single women in the population, defining terms associated with sexual assault, examining rape myths, characteristics of the victim, describing the relationship of victim to assailant, extent of victimization experienced by women, common physical injuries, age-related physiological changes, psychological considerations, and post-traumatic stress disorder specific to mid-life women. Findings The population of single women has increased across the life span. Current studies utilize varying definitions of sexual assault, examine results across variable age groups, and include the responses of single women with married women. Characteristics of victims demonstrate similarities by age group, relationship type, living conditions, and physical or mental capabilities that affect the occurrence of sexual assault. Practice Implications There are few studies that examine the sexual assault experiences of single mid-life women.
