Abstract

The kinetics of the pyrolysis of solid organic polymers by their heating with a gas or a metal melt have been studied. The design features of a small-sized pyrolysis unit for organic polymers have been determined. The pyrolysis process on this unit has been experimentally substantiated. The specifics of the processes of “conventional” pyrolysis in the gaseous heat carrier and the pyrolysis of organic polymers in a lead melt have been revealed. It has been shown that the resulting pyrolysis liquid can be used as a feedstock for the production of the expensive organic solvent limonene or synthetic oil similar in properties to domestic crude oil.

Abstract

To model the formation processes of C10–C20 petroleum isoprenanes, thermolysis of regular and irregular C20–C40 isoprenanes (phytane, crocetane, squalane, and lycopane) and the suggested precursors of regular petroleum isoprenanes (phytol and isophytol) has been conducted. It has been shown that the thermolysis of these compounds results in the formation of regular, irregular, and pseudoregular isoprenanes; the trends in their distribution have been revealed; and the retention indices have been determined. It has been assumed that the pristane/phytane ratio, which is used in petroleum geochemistry, should be treated with caution.

Abstract

Saturated hydrocarbon biomarkers (n-alkanes, isoprenanes, pregnanes, steranes, cheilanthanes, hopanes) in the soluble part and thermolysis products of the insoluble part of the biomass of Thermoplasma sp. archaea isolated from the Neftyanaya Ploshchadka hot spring of the Uzon volcano caldera (Kamchatka, Russia) have been identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The distribution of these hydrocarbons resembles that of slightly transformed marine oils generated in argillaceous-carbonate strata, a fact that is confirmed by Rock-Eval pyrolysis data for the biomass of the archaea studied.
