A novel benzothiazole derivativeJas a fluorescent chemosensor for Zn2+has been designed and synthesized. The chemosensorJexhibits high selectivity and sensitivity to Zn2+as fluorescence “turn-on” behavior, which the other cations do not make sense. The detection limit calculated by fluorescence titration method was 1.64 × 10−8M. Furthermore, the generatedJ-Zn2+ensemble could recover the enhanced fluorescence upon the addition of EDTA generating an “on-off-on” recycle. N-(4-acetylphenyl)-N′-(2-nitrobenzoyl)-thiourea has been synthesized in high yield under PEG-400 as the phase-transfer catalyst and its the compound structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound is also a considerable plant-growth regulator. The complex bis(μ-sulfur)-sulfur-[N-phenyl-N'-(2-nitrobenzoyl)-thiourea]copper (I) was obtained from the reaction between the N-phenyl-N'-(2-nitrobenzoyl)-thiourea(HL) and copper(II). The compound was characterized by IR and 1H NMR, 13C NMR spectroscopy and its structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex is binuclear with two copper(I) ions coordinated by a terminal sulfur, two bridging sulfurs, and a HL molecule. In addition, the compound is also a considerable plant-growth regulator. A series of N-aryl-N′-(4-ethyloxybenzoyl)-thiourea 3a–h was synthesized under phase transfer catalysis and r.t. conditions. The chemical structure of all compounds were established by IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR studies, and all of the compounds were investigated for plant-growth regulating activity.
