2.5 μm thick YBaCuO layers have been synthesized on both sides of 50 μm thick Ag tapes by alternating sequential electrolytic deposition of precursors and oxidation-reaction treatments. It was found that the process leads to a nearly perfect alignment of the “c” axis of the superconducting grains with the normal of the tapes when the last synthesis step is started in the presence of a liquid phase. The major problems encountered were: the presence of cracks generated by oxidation of the Y-base deposit, a large under-stoichiometry in Y and contamination by impurities like S and C. Once the problem of cracks was practically solved and the Y stoichiometry partially re-adjusted, the transport critical current density at 77K of our tapes was increased up to 6 600 A/cm2 in spiteof a critical temperature of only 82K
