Search

Motivated by dark-photon γ scenarios extensively considered in the literature, we explore experimentally allowed models where the Higgs boson coupling to photon and dark photon Hγγ can be enhanced. Correspondingly, large rates for the H ⇶ γγ decay become plausible, giving rise to one monochromatic photon with Eγ ≃ mH/2 (i.e., more than twice the photon energy in the rare standard-model decay H ⇶ γZ ⇶ γνν), and a similar amount of missing energy. We perform a model-independent study of this exotic resonant monophoton signature at the LHC, featuring a distinctive EγT peak around 60 GeV, and γ + ET transverse invariant mass ruled by mH. At parton level, we find a 5σ sensitivity of the present LHC data set for a H ⇶ γγ branching fraction of 0.5%. Such large branching fractions can be naturally obtained in dark U(1)F models explaining the origin and hierarchy of the standard model Yukawa couplings. Near the tip of the τ coannihilation strip in the CMSSM with a neutralino lightest supersymmetric particle χ, the astrophysical cold dark matter density constraint forces the τ - χ mass difference to be small. If this mass difference is smaller than mτ, the τ may decay either in the outer part of an LHC detector--the "disappearing track" signature--or be sufficiently long-lived to leave the detector before decaying--the long-lived massive charged-particle signature. We combine searches for these signatures with conventional EmissT searches during LHC Run 1, identifying the small remaining parts of the CMSSM τ coannihilation strip region that have not yet been excluded and discussing how they may be explored during Run 2 of the LHC. The correlation between the invisible Higgs branching ratio (Binvh) versus dark matter (DM) direct detection cross section (σSIp) in Higgs portal singlet fermion DM (SFDM) or vector DM (VDM) models is usually presented in the effective field theory (EFT) framework. In this paper, we derive the explicit expressions for this correlation within UV completions of SFDM and VDM models with Higgs portals, and we discuss the limitations of the EFT approach. We show that there are at least two additional hidden parameters in sSIp in the UV completions: the singletlike scalar mass m2 and its mixing angle α with the SM Higgs boson (h). In particular, if the singletlike scalar is lighter than the SM Higgs boson (m2 < mhcosα/√1+cos²α), the collider bound becomes weaker than the one based on EFT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present a measurement of the branching fractions and charge-parity-(CP-)violating parameters in B → ωK decays. The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772 x 106 BB̅ pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. We obtain the branching fractions B(B0 → ωK0) = (4.5 ± 0.4(stat) ± 0.3(syst)) × 10−6, B(B+ → ωK+) = (6.8 ± 0.4(stat) ± 0.4(syst)) x 10−6 which are in agreement with their respective current world averages. For the CP-violating parameters, we obtain AωKs0 = −0.36 ± 0.19(stat) ± 0.05(syst), SωKs0 = +0.91 ± 0.32(stat) ± 0.05(syst), A ωK+ = −0.03 ± 0.04(stat) ± 0.01 (syst), where A and S represent the direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetry, respectively. We find no evidence of CP violation in the decay channel B+ → ωK+; however, we obtain the first evidence of CP violation in the B0 → ωKs0 decay channel at the level of 3.1 standard deviations. We present a measurement of the branching fractions and charge-parity-(CP-)violating parameters in B → ωK decays. The study of regional CP asymmetry in Dalitz plots of charm (& beauty) decays gives us more information about the underlying dynamics than the ratio between total rates. In this paper we explore the consequences of the constraint from CPT symmetry with emphasis on three-body D decays. We show simulations of D± → π±K+K- and discuss correlations with measured D± → π± π+ π-. The next-to-leading order QCD corrections for χbJ, the p-wave bottomonium, to J/ψ pair decay processes are evaluated utilizing NRQCD factorization formalism. The scale dependence of the χb2 →J/ψJ/ψ process is depressed with NLO corrections, and hence the uncertainties in the leading-order results are greatly reduced. The total branch ratios are found to be the order of 10-5 for all three χbJ→J/ψJ/ψ processes, indicating that they are observable in the LHC and SuperB experiments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In a relativistic quark model we study the structure of the N(1710) resonance, and the γ*N → N(1710) reaction focusing on the high momentum transfer region, where the valence quark degrees of freedom are expected to be dominant. The N(1710) resonance, a state with spin 1/2 and positive parity (JP = 1/2+), can possibly be interpreted as the second radial excitation of the nucleon, after the Roper, N(1440). We calculate the γ*N → N(1710) helicity amplitudes, and predict that they are almost identical to those of the γ*N → N(1440) reaction in the high momentum transfer region. Thus, future measurement of the helicity amplitudes for the γ*N → N(1710) reaction can give a significant hint on the internal structure of the N(1710) state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After the discovery of the 125 GeV scalar boson with gauge properties similar to the Standard Model (SM) Higgs, the search for beyond the SM interactions will focus on studying the discovered particles' coupling properties more precisely and shedding light on the relation of fermion masses with the electroweak vacuum. The large mass of the top quark and the SM-predicted order one top Yukawa coupling is a natural candidate for beyond the SM physics, though experimentally challenging to constrain. In this paper, we argue that investigating angular correlations in pp → τHj production provides an excellent handle to constrain the top Yukawa coupling yt, via direct measurements, even when we focus on rare exclusive final states. We perform a hadron-level analysis and show that we may expect to constrain yt, ≳ 0.5ytSM at 95%-99% confidence level at the high luminosity LHC using semileptonic top decays and H → γγ alone, by employing a two-channel measurement approach. Sterile neutrinos with masses in the range of 1-100 GeV have been searched for in a variety of experiments. Here, we discuss the prospects of searching for sterile neutrinos at the LHC using displaced vertices. Two different cases are discussed: (i) the standard model extended with sterile neutrinos, and (ii) right-handed neutrinos in a left-right symmetric extension of the standard model. A dedicated displaced vertex search will allow us to probe parts of the parameter space not accessible to other searches, but both cases will require a large luminosity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The cross sections of the processes e+e- → K+K-J/ψ and KS0KS0J/ψ are measured via initial state radiation at center-of-mass energies between the threshold and 6.0 GeV using a data sample of 980 fb-1 collected with the Belle detector on or near the Υ(nS) resonances, where n=1,2,...,5. The cross sections for e+e-→K+K-J/ψ are at a few pb level and the average cross section for e+e- → KS0KS0J/ψ is 1.8 ± 0.6(stat) ± 0.3(syst) pb between 4.4 and 5.2 GeV. All of them are consistent with previously published results with improved precision. We present a study of the branching fraction of the decay B0 → ρ0ρ0 and the fraction of longitudinally polarized ρ0 mesons in this decay. The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772 × 106 BB pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We find 166±59 B0 → ρ0ρ0 events (including systematic uncertainties), corresponding to a branching fraction of B(B0 → ρ0ρ0) = (1.02±0.30(stat) ± 0.15(syst)) × 10-6 with a significance of 3.4 standard deviations and a longitudinal polarization fraction fL = 0.21+0.18-0.22(stat)±0.15(syst). We use the longitudinal polarization fraction to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix angle ɸ2 = (84.9±13.5)° through an isospin analysis in the B → ρρ system. We furthermore find 125±41 B0 → f0ρ0 events, corresponding to B(B0 → f0ρ0) × B(f0 → π+π-) = (0.78±0.22(stat)±0.11(syst)) × 10-6, with a significance of 3.1 standard deviations. We find no other significant contribution with the same final state, and set upper limits at 90% confidence level on the (product) branching fractions, B(B0 → π+π-π+π-) < 11.2 × 10-6, B(B0 → ρ0π+π-) < 12.0 × 10-6, B(B0 → f0π+π-)×B(f0 → π+π-) < 3.0 × 10-6 and B(B0 → f0f0)×B(f0 → π+π-)² < 0.2×10-6. IsoDAR provides a pure and intense v̅e source with an average energy of 6.5 MeV produced through 8Li β decay. This source can be paired with a large scintillator detector, such as KamLAND, to produce a sample of v̅e-electron scatters that is more than 5 times larger than what has been collected before. A facility that can deliver beams of electron and muon neutrinos from the decay of a stored muon beam has the potential to unambiguously resolve the issue of the evidence for light sterile neutrinos that arises in short-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments and from estimates of the effective number of neutrino flavors from fits to cosmological data. In this paper, we show that the nuSTORM facility, with stored muons of 3.8 GeV/c ± 10%, will be able to carry out a conclusive muon neutrino appearance search for sterile neutrinos and test the LSND and MiniBooNE experimental signals with 10s sensitivity, even assuming conservative estimates for the systematic uncertainties. This experiment would add greatly to our knowledge of the contribution of light sterile neutrinos to the number of effective neutrino flavors from the abundance of primordial helium production and from constraints on neutrino energy density from the cosmic microwave background. A search for the rare decays of J/ψ → Ds−ρ+ + c.c. and J/ψ → D̅0K̅*0 + c.c. is performed with a data sample of 225.3-million J/ψ events collected with the Beijing Spectrometer III detector. No evident signal is observed. Upper limits on the branching fractions are determined to be B(J/ψ → Ds−ρ+ + c.c.) < 1.3 × 10−5 and B(J/ψ → D̅0K̅*0 + c.c.) < 2.5 × 10-6 at the 90% confidence level. The decay J/ψ →ωpp has been studied, using 225.3 X 106 J/ψ events accumulated at BESIH. No significant enhancement near the pp invariant-mass threshold [denoted as X(pp)] is observed. The upper limit of the branching fraction B ( J / ψ → ωX(pp) → ωpp) is determined to be 3.9 X 10-6 at the 95% confidence level. Based on a sample of 225.3 million J/Ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII, the decays of η' → π+π-l+l- are studied via J/Ψ → γη'. A clear η' signal is observed in the π+π-e+e- mass spectrum, and the branching fraction is measured to be B(η' → π+π-e+e-) = (2.11 ± 0.12(stat) ± 0.14(syst)) X 10-3, which is in good agreement with theoretical predictions and the previous measurement, but is determined with much higher precision. Based on a sample of 2.25 X 108 J/Ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, a full partial wave analysis on J/Ψ → γηη was performed using the relativistic covariant tensor amplitude method. The results show that the dominant 0++ and 2++ components are from the f0(1710), f0(2100), f0(1500), f'2(1525), f2(1810) and f2(2340). First observations and measurements of the branching fractions of the B0s → D+D-, B0s → Ds+D- and B0s → D0D0 decays are presented using 1.0 fb-1 of data collected by the LHCb experiment. These branching fractions are normalized to those of B- → D+D-, B0 → D-Ds+ and B- → D0Ds-, respectively. An excess of events consistent with the decay B0 → D0D0 is also seen, and its branching fraction is measured relative to that of B- → D0Ds-. Improved measurements of the branching fractions B(Bs0 → Ds+Ds-) and B(B- → D0Ds- are reported, each relative to B(B0 → D-Ds+. In the commented paper it is claimed that there is provided a model-independent determination of the quantity B0(md-mu) based on the analysis of the decay of eta to three neutral pions that takes the strong-interaction correction as an unknown parameter. In the following we show that the two constraints presented there as independent equations are in fact two approximations of a single constraint connecting together B0(md-mu) with the strong-interaction correction to the η→3π0 decay amplitude. Thus, without some additional information on the latter (such as its correct value at least at one kinematic point) it does not lead to any determination of B0(md-mu), and the numerical values presented there should not be taken seriously. We have also found that the numerical result for the studied quantity obtained in the commented paper is just an accidental number stemming from some numerical errors that had occurred in the computations presented there. We search for the Z1(4050)+ and Z2(4250)+ states, reported by the Belle Collaboration, decaying to &b.chi;c1π+ in the decays &Bmacr;0 → &b.chi;c1K-π+ and B+ → X&b.chi;cl0sπ+ where x&b.chi;c1 → J/&b.psi;γ- The data were collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider operating at center-of-mass energy 10.58 GeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 429 fb-1. In this analysis, we model the background-subtracted, efficiency-corrected &b.chi;c1π+ mass distribution using the Kπ mass distribution and the corresponding normalized Kπ Legendre-polynomial moments, and then test the need for the inclusion of resonant structures in the description of the &b.chi;c1π+ mass distribution. No evidence is found for the Z1 (4050)+ and Z2(4250)+ resonances, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions are reported for the corresponding B-meson decay modes. We investigate how the CP quantum numbers of a neutral Higgs boson or spin-zero resonance Φ, produced at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, can be determined in its τ-pair decay mode Φ →, τ-τ+. We use a method [S. Berge and W. Bernreuther, Phys. Lett. B 671, 470 (2009).] based on the distributions of two angles and apply it to the major 1-prong τ decays. We show for the resulting dileptom lepton-pion, and two-pion final states that appropriate selection cuts significantly enhance the discriminating power of these observables. From our analysis we conclude that, provided a Higgs boson will be found at the LHC, it appears feasible to collect the event numbers needed to discriminate between a CP-even and -odd Higgs boson and/or between Higgs boson(s) with CP-conserving and CP-violating couplings after several years of high-luminosity runs. We study the effect of squark generation mixing on gluino production and decays at LHC in the minimal supersymmetric standard model for the case that the gluino is lighter than all squarks and dominantly decays into three particles, Due to image rights restrictions, multiple line equation(s) cannot be graphically displayed., Due to image rights restrictions, multiple line equation(s) cannot be graphically displayed. We assume mixing between the second and the third squark generations in the up-type and down-type squark sectors. We show that this mixing can lead to very large branching ratios of the quark-flavor violating gluino three-body decays despite the strong constraints on quark-flavor violation (QFV) from the experimental data on B mesons. We also show that the QFV gluino decay branching ratios are very sensitive not only to the generation mixing in the squark sector, but also to the parameters of the neutralino and chargino sectors. We explore an alternative mechanism for the production of gravitino dark matter whereby relic gravitinos originate from the decays of superpartners which are still in thermal equilibrium, i.e. vi freeze-in. Contributions to the gravitino abundance from freeze-in can easily dominate over those from thermal scattering over a broad range of parameter space, e.g., when the scalar superpartners are heavy. Because the relic abundance from freeze-in is independent of the reheating temperature alter inflation, collider measurements may be used to unambiguously reconstruct the freeze-in origin of gravitinos. In particular, if gravitino freeze-in indeed accounts for the present day dark matter abundance, then the lifetime of the next-to-lightest superpartner is uniquely fixed by the superpartner spectrum. We study the Z' → q̄q, ggg decays in the context of a manifest left-right symmetric gauge theory with three and four generations. The Z' couplings to quarks are fixed essentially by the parameters of the standard model and we obtain Γ(Z' → qq̄) ≈ 14 GeV for MZ' ≈ 1 TeV. For the Z' → ggg decay and three families we obtain a branching ratio BR(Z' → ggg) = Γ (Z' → ggg)/Γ (Z' → qq̄) = 1.2 - 2.8 x 10-5 for mZ' = 700-1500 GeV. The fourth generation produces an enhancement in the branching ratio for Z' masses close to the b'̄b' threshold and a dip for Z' masses close to the t'̄t' threshold. Using the values of the fourth-generation quark masses allowed by electroweak precision data, we obtain a branching ratio BR(Z' → ggg) = (1 - 6) x 10-5 for mZ' = (700-1500) GeV. We investigate the Higgs boson production through gluon fusion and its decay into two photons at the LHC in the context of the minimal 3-3-1 model and its alternative version with exotic leptons. The diphoton Higgs decay channel presents an enhanced signal in this model compared to the standard model due to the presence of an extra singly charged vector boson and a doubly charged one. Prospects for the Higgs boson detection at 7 TeV center-of-mass energy with up to 10 fb-1 are presented. Our results suggest that a Higgs boson from these 3-3-1 models can potentially explain the small excess for mH ≤ 145 GeV observed at the LHC. Since the discovery of X(3872), its structure has been in ceaseless dispute. The data of X(3872) → π+ π-π0 J/ψ suggest that X(3872) may be a high-spin charmoniumlike particle of 2-+. In terms of the light-front quark model we calculate the rates of the radiative decays X(3872)→ J/ψ(ψ')γ supposing X(3872) to be a 2-+ charmonium. Within this framework, our theoretical prediction on BR(X(3872) →ψ (IS)γ) is at order of 10-3 which is slightly lower than the BABAR Collaboration's data but close to the Belle Collaboration's. Our prediction on BR(X(3872)→ ψ'γ) is at order of 10-5 if ψ' is a pure 2S state or 10-4 if ψ' is a 2S-ID mixture, which does not conflict with the upper bound set by Belle, but is much lower than BABAR's data. Thus if the future measurement decides the branching ratio of BR(X(3872) → ψ' γ) to be much larger than 10-4, the 2-+ assignment for X(3872) should be ruled out. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Because of their small electromagnetic corrections, the isospin-breaking decays η → 3π seem to be good candidates for extracting isospin-breaking parameters ~(md - mu). This task is unfortunately complicated by large chiral corrections and the discrepancy between the experimentally measured values of the Dalitz parameters describing the energy dependence of the amplitudes of these decays and those predicted from chiral perturbation theory. We present two methods based on an analytic dispersive representation that use the information from the NNLO chiral result and the one from the measurement of the charged η → 3π decay by KLOE together in a harmonized way in order to determine the value of the quark mass ratio R. Our final result is R = 37.7 ± 2.2. This value supplemented by values of ms/m̂ or even m̂ and ms. from other methods (as sum-rules or lattice) enables us to obtain further quark mass characteristics. For instance the recent lattice value for ms/m̂ ~ 27.5 leads to Q = 23.1 ± 0.7. We also quote the corresponding values of the current masses mu and md. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using a data sample of 2.59 x 107 ψ(2S) decays obtained with the CLEO-c detector, we perform amplitude analyses of the complementary decay chains ψ(2S) → γ χc1; χc1 → ηπ+π- and ψ(2S) → γ χc1; χc1 → η'π+π-. We find evidence for an exotic P-wave η' π amplitude, which, if interpreted as resonance, would have parameters consistent with the π1(1600) state reported in other production mechanisms. We also make the first observation of the decay a0 (980) → η 'π and measure the ratio of branching fractions B(a0(980) → η 'π) / B(a0(980) → η π) = 0.064 ± 0.014 ± 0.014. We report updated branching fraction measurements of the color-suppressed decays B̄0 → D0 π0, D*0 π0, D0 η, D*0 η, D0 ω, D*0 ω, D0 η', and D*0 η'. We measure the branching fractions (x 10-4): B(B̄0 → D0 π0 = 2.69 ± 0.09 ± 0.13, B(B̄0 → D*0 π0 = 3.05 ± 0.14 ± 0.28, B(B̄0 → D0 η) = 2.53 ± 0.09 ± 0.11, B(B̄0 → D*0 η) = 2.69 ± 0.14 ± 0.23, B(B̄0 → D0 ω) = 2.57 ± 0.11 ± 0.14, B(B̄0 → D*0 ω) = 4.55 ± 0.24 ± 0.39, B(B̄0 → D0 η') = 1.48 ± 0.13 ± 0.07, and B(B̄0 → D*0 η') = 1.49 ± 0.22 ± 0.15. We also present the first measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction of the decay channel D*0ω fL = (66.5 ± 4.7 ± 1.5)%. In the above, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The results are based on a sample of (454 ± 5) x 106 BB̄ pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance, with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings at SLAC. The measurements are the most precise determinations of these quantities from a single experiment. They are compared to theoretical predictions obtained by factorization, Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) and perturbative QCD (pQCD). One distinguishes between "true" CP-violating triple-product (TP) asymmetries which require no strong phases and "fake" asymmetries which are due to strong phases but require no CP violation. So far a single true TP asymmetry has been measured in KL → π+π-e+e-. A general discussion is presented for T-odd TP asymmetries in four-body decays. It is shown that TP asymmetries vanish for two identical and kinematically indistinguishable particles in the final state. Two examples are D0 → K- π+π-π+ and D+ → K-π+π+π0 . A nonzero TP asymmetry can be expected when nontrivial kinematic correlations exist, as in the decay KL → e+e-e+e-. Triple-product asymmetries measured in charmed particle decays indicate an interesting pattern of final-state interactions. We reiterate a discussion of TP asymmetries in B meson decays to two vector mesons each decaying to a pseudoscalar pair, extending results to decays where one vector meson decays into a lepton pair. We derive expressions for time-dependent TP asymmetries for neutral B decays to flavorless states in terms of the neutral B mass difference Δm and the width-difference ΔΓ. Time-integrated true CP-violating asymmetries, measurable for untagged Bs decays, are shown to be suppressed by neither Γs/Δms nor ΔΓs/Γs if transversity amplitudes for CP-even and CP-odd states involve different weak phases. In contrast, fake asymmetries require flavor tagging and are suppressed by the former ratio when time integrated. We have shown that the B-L generation due to the decay of the thermally produced superheavy fields can explain the Baryon asymmetry in the Universe if the superheavy fields are heavier than 1013-14 GeV. The B-L-violating effective operators induced by integrating the superheavy fields have dimension 7, while the operator in the famous leptogenesis has dimension 5. ATLAS and CMS have provided hints for the existence of a Higgs-like particle with mass of about 144 GeV with production cross section into standard decay channels which is about 50% that of the standard model Higgs boson. We show that this 50% suppression is exactly what the mirror matter model predicts when the two scalar mass eigenstates, each required to be maximal admixtures of a standard and mirror-Higgs boson, are separated in mass by more than their decay widths but less than the experimental resolution. Top partners--vectorlike quarks which mix predominantly with the top quark, are simple extensions of the standard model present in many theories of new physics such as little Higgs models, topcolor models, and extra dimensions. Through renormalizable mixing with the top quark, these top partners inherit couplings to the Higgs boson. Higgs bosons produced from the decay of top partners are often highly boosted and ideal candidates for analyses based on jet substructure. Using substructure methods, we show that light Higgs bosons decaying to b̄b can be discovered at the 14 TeV LHC with less than 10 fb-1 for top-partner masses up to 1 TeV. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LHC searches for the standard model Higgs boson in WW or ZZ decay modes place strong constraints on the top-Higgs state predicted in many models with new dynamics preferentially affecting top quarks. Such a state couples strongly to top quarks, and is therefore produced through gluon fusion at a rate enhanced relative to the rate for the standard model Higgs boson. A top-Higgs state with mass less than 300 GeV is excluded at 95% C.L. if the associated top-pion has a mass of 150 GeV, and the constraint is even stronger if the mass of the top-pion state exceeds the top-quark mass or if the top-pion decay constant is a substantial fraction of the weak scale. We study the impact of the Randall-Sundrum setup on the width difference ΔΓs and the CP-violating phase φs in the Due to image rights restrictions, multiple line equation(s) cannot be graphically displayed system. We calculate the relativistic corrections of J/ψ, including electromagnetic corrections, to χbJ → J/ψJ/ψ in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD factorization. The relativistic effects are found to increase the lower-order prediction for the decay width by about 10%, while the electromagnetism contribution is very small, about 0.2% for χb0 and χb2- The total branching ratios are predicted to be of order 10-5 for χb0,b2 → J/ψJ/ψ, but 10-11 for χb1 → J/ψ J/ψ, since there is only electromagnetism contribution in this channel. We perform a lattice QCD study of the ρ meson decay from the Nf = 2 + 1 full QCD configurations generated with a renormalization group improved gauge action and a nonperturbatively O(a)-improved Wilson fermion action. The resonance parameters, the effective ρ → ππ coupling constant and the resonance mass, are estimated from the P-wave scattering phase shift for the isospin I = 1 two-pion system. The finite size formulas are employed to calculate the phase shift from the energy on the lattice. Our calculations are carried out at two quark masses, mπ = 410 MeV (mπ/mρ = 0.46) and mπ = 300 MeV (mπ/mρ = 0.35), on a 32³ x 64 (La = 2.9 fm) lattice at the lattice spacing a = 0.091 fm. Bottomonium S-wave states were studied using lattice NRQCD. Masses of ground and excited states were calculated using multiexponential fitting to a set of correlation functions constructed using both local and wavefunction-smeared operators. Three-point functions for M1 transitions between vector and pseudoscalar states were computed. Robust signals for transitions involving the first two excited states were obtained. The qualitative features of the transition matrix elements are in agreement with expectations. We discuss a consistency test which makes it possible to discriminate unknown nuclear background lines from neutrinoless double beta decay with only one isotope. By considering both the transition to the ground state and to the first excited 0+ state, a sufficiently large detector can reveal if neutrinoless double beta decay or some other nuclear physics process is at work. We study the LHC potential for discovering TeV-scale SU(2)L 5-plet fermions introduced recently to explain small neutrino masses. We show that the Drell-Yan production and the decays of new exotic Σ leptons are testable at the LHC. Their production is abundant due to nontrivial electroweak gauge charges. For 1 fb-1 of integrated luminosity at the present LHC √s = 7 TeV, there can be 270 Σ - Σ̄ pairs produced for MΣ = 400 GeV. We exploit the spin and kinematic correlations in the decay of a scalar boson into a pair of real or virtual W-bosons, with both W-bosons decaying leptonically, for Higgs boson discovery at 7 TeV LHC energy with 10 fb-1 luminosity. Without reconstruction of the events, we obtain estimators of the Higgs mass from the peak and width of the signal distribution in mu. The separation of signal and background with other distributions, such as the azimuthal angle between two W decay planes, the rapidity difference between the two leptons, missing ET, and the pT of leptons, are also prescribed. We report an analysis of charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K+ π0π0, using a data sample of (470.9 ± 2.8) x 106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. We observe an excess of signal events, with a significance above 10 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties, and measure the branching fraction and CP asymmetry to be B(B+ → K+ π0 π0) = (16.2 ± 1.2 ± 1.5) x 10-6 and ACP(B+ → K+ π0π0) = -0.06 ± 0.06 ± 0.04, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Additionally, we study the contributions of the B+ → K*(892)+ π0, B+ → f0(980)K+, and B+ → χc0K+ quasi-two-body decays. We present the results of a Dalitz plot analysis of Due to image rights restrictions, multiple line equation(s) cannot be graphically displayed using the CLEO-c data set of 818 pb-1 of e+ e- collisions accumulated at √s = 3.77 GeV. This corresponds to 3 x 106 D0 D̄0 pairs from which we select 1259 tagged candidates with a background of 7.5 ± 0.9 percent. Several models have been explored, all of which include the K*(892), K*2(1430), K*(1680), the f0(980), and the σ(500). We find that the combined π0 π0 S-wave contribution to our preferred fit is (28.9 ± 6.3 ± 3.1)% of the total decay rate while D0 → K̄*(892)0 π0 contributes (65.6 ± 5.3 ± 2.5)%. Using three tag modes and correcting for quantum correlations we measure the Due to image rights restrictions, multiple line equation(s) cannot be graphically displayed branching fraction to be (1.058 ± 0.038 ± 0.073)%. If the observation by OPERA of apparently superluminal neutrinos is correct, the Lagrangian for second-generation leptons must break Lorentz invariance. We calculate the effects of an energy-independent change in the neutrino speed on another observable, the charged pion decay rate.
